Reactored reaper pair expand versus gate nexus, but nothing happens out of it. Standard game, but Innovation loses a medivac full of units from a blink, then donates 3 empty medivacs due to a bad a-move. Zealot+warp prism harass from Parting pulls the Terran out of position and kills a base before the recall. The economic advantage is too much, as despite a good engagement from Innovation at Parting's side of the map, he can't reinforce well enough due to more warp prism harass, and the eventual counter attack kills him and Innovation ggs
Standard macro game. Lots of bases. One fight, happens in the middle with Innovation trapped by map architecture. He can't micro out of the storms, and AoE just crushes him. Parting loses all his expensive units but he's 40 supply ahead. Innovation dies eventually from harass and frontal attacks as he can't macro up an army in time.

With respect to Sora, a Korean team of INnoVation, SoulKey and PartinG (arguably one of the best, if not the best, in their respective race) is going to destroy the world uncontested.
(Probably only changing PartinG for Rain can make it more fearsome)

WCG is almost always a stomp. Only last year with YongHwa and MKP embarrassing themselves has it looked close in recent memory.

It'd be nice if Parting could shock the world here and beat Innovation... Of course if that happened, everyone would blame Innovation for a slump and not for PartinG's achievement. Oh well. GO GO PARTING!

Parting really impressed me, played near perfect. still, damn, Bogus was able to build up that army and when he pushed towards Parting's base that fight was closer than I thought it'd be. nice snipe + recall.
Innovation really didn't play well. 4 medivacs donated. A scan on the army yet he a-moves everything to kill the zealot harass. A-move on his ghosts suicides 4 or 5 of them.

Yeah, that was sadly true. PartinG still played nice PvT.
Was thinking the LR thread for this WCG game day with these matchups would be more active... :\
Nice to see innovation's cracks in his play. Parting played like a surgeon doing exactly what needed to be done with little to no slip up, seemed like Innovation just couldn't keep up or predict Partings moves.. Always one step behind it seemed.

I think a lot of people had no idea this was going on. WCG has been really under the radar this year. I didn't know about it until this morning.

That is true... I was at HempFest all day and had no idea this was happening tonight, Might have ended up not going to HempFest if I knew this was on, but alas I got back home early enough for surprise amazing match ups in WCG :D Victory~!

WCG has fallen quite a bit
I remember seeing a documentary on Xellos that focused on qualifying for WCG. the whole tournament was played in a huge outdoor venue. tons of hype.
that is because WCG was only international tournament of that time with so big money prize. Now you have many tournaments with 20 000 $ for 1st place. OK, less than it was two years ago but that is in other hand good because WCG will be more popular again (not as last year, that was sad).

Much better than backing off because of random warp-in :D
seriously. those zealot or DT warp-ins can wreck you if your entire army is out on the map... but yeah pros have always been so hesitant to build static defense until super late game so that turret ring is not something I often see in TvP.

Actually Innovation honestly did not look that good today. Should he be in similar condition tomorrow i see Sora taking him out. On other hand, should SK lose, i don't see Inno losing to SK in macro game, if it is not Bo7.
Innovation kind of fell apart against the harass on the 4th base. It's so hard for terran to defend wihtout overcommitting to it, and if you don't have enough your army will just get slaughtered by a gang of zealots and a couple of DTs.
Maybe wall in the bunker with a couple of depots, or just make 4th a planetary.
Nevertheless Parting was amazing and I think if that was not for Innovation's name, he would have finished the games earlier, so confident were his moves

To be fair PartinG was playing so ridiculously solid and safe that I'm not sure where his opening was. Innovation just went into super macro mode then sat around when he maxed out. The 3rd that PartinG took is very hard for a Terran to pressure. I think he just had to get aggressive regardless and try to force out mistakes from PartinG and take a good fight. Parting ended up being the more aggressive player and Innovation did not deal with that harassment well at all, moving his whole army out of position to chase down a few Zealots, and I think he actually overbuilt Missile Turrets, he never had as big a bank as you would expect from that economy.

It's vaguely racist assumption (as Asian, you must eat rice) coupled with unlikely work out regime. You place a bowl of rice below your face, and then eat some rice while you are down before pushing to the upright position.

Soulkey is actually playing awful... Took so much unnecessary damage from those Phoenixes, making it so obvious exactly what he is going for. Sora is just hard countering him.

I really liked the build from Soulkey. How he used those 2 packs of roachling to buy time for brood lords, how he got a ton of queens and how he "tricked" Sora that he was going ultralisks instead of brood lords (Sora actually stopped producing voids for a while to go into another robo and immortal-archon instead).
I feel he could've had that with earlier transfuses in the first big engagement, as well as a couple more corruptors. The ling remax was really questionable, hard to deal damage versus that sim city.
Maybe Soulkey commited a bit too much to roaches early game, securing a 4th might've been better.
I kind of felt like Sora gave Soulkey a (slim) opportunity to get back into that with the engagement at mid-right, it seemed unnecessary to me given that Sora had a 4th and Soulkey didn't. Sora could've taken his time to build up a better army.

Innovation had the wrong game plan. He played alright but his strategy was just waaaaaay off (try to outmacro Protoss and win one big engagement, lol)
Soulkey just played like poop. It was essentially a 3-base BroodLord Queen 'all in'
all went downwards for SK after the first engagement where he was melted, but can't say he didn't have a chance of coming back, Sora didn't allow it eventually

that win was more due to the way that soulkey played rather than how sora did. his opener was really greedy and he barely won vs a 3basing zerg, his mechanics just looked really average. he stopped probing early so he didnt transition well into the lategame

Newcomer up on very big stage in an important match against one of the best Zergs in the world. It was an 'easy' win. He was up a ton in supply and he could have ended it beforehand. You can assume he lacked the basic skills of knowing he was so far ahead and thus made it even close and lost grasp of the game or you can assume he is simply a bit nervous :p
I will say while he didn't look overwhelming, he looked rock solid vs SK but I can also relate to what you are talking about. He didn't look like a real star there.

Terrible creep spread by SK meant he had no spores anywhere, despite having resources for it. This meant that phoenix could bully his air units everywhere on the map with the exception of over his bases.

I think it's one of those builds that if it works, it snowballs and you kinda just win, but if you aren't able to do critical damage, you slowly bleed out. For example, Soulkey lost a lot of corruptors fighting over Sora's 4th base, but wasn't able to take out the base. I think if he had been able to do so, he might've had a chance in that game, but with the base remaining alive he essentially just found himself in a shit situation with bad upgrades and limited tech.

Protoss is the traditional weakness of Soulkey but that's a sad result.
He gets alot of hate but David Kim (And the whole team) are pretty damn good at what they do.
Btw, anyone knows origins of Sora (as in team before moving to b-team of CJ Entus or if he was an amateur player) or if aligulac's info is off? Aligulac reports Sora's loss to Major in GSL 2012 S2 Code A preliminaries and since afaik KeSPA players only started playing in GSL in Season 4.

Chobra said his family didn't know he was a progamer until they went to his WCG Ro8 matches 2 days ago.
I assume he just went to Code A preliminaries to try out "for fun", and only put everything in when he was accepted into CJ.

...fuck....hate to lose either soulkey or innovation...
New blood infinitely more important to esports than old stars, regardless of what you want to believe. Especially when the average life span of a player's career is so short.
Soulkey and Innovation are new blood really hahaha

Actually if you pay attention, his queens were accumulating energy too. Soulkey's play really felt sleepy.
Yeah: ''Soulkey even transfuses the hatchery to try to save it'' -> Soulkey's macro was off so he had enough energy on his injecting queen

What they did in wol is nothing short a big joke and he deserved all the flack for that. However, they have drastically changed their approach in hots and it's for the better.
