How does that make sense. If he lost and Hero won he could just as well have to play Scarlett anyway. Now at worst he has to play Hero again and only has to win one of these series.

That makes no sense. Your way he has to beat HerO in the last game which is asuming HerO loses to Scarlett (why that assumption? crazy talk)

Beating HerO first game, even if he loses to Scarlett (he's a favourite) will still have to beat HerO in the last game.
