More like because siege tanks don't really have a place in current meta, and people generally try to aim for getting units that are usable further into the game.

I think the guy said the map in question was not laid out in a way that a siege tank could stop it because you'd have to siege on the low ground to hit stuff, don't remember what game it was.

Yep, but current meta is also being extremely greedy on TvZ. A tank or two will allow you to transition way safer and not die to silly busts. It's not like you need to go blindly for them, but it is possible to scout and get it in time. Many people just ignore this and go for mines anyways and die to roaches.
