Holy shit, I just realized that Puzzle managed to break through the firewall of Kespa-MLG exclusivity. This might be one of the rare times we see a Kespa player abroad like this.

Thank you, Project Dark Horse for sending an "underdog" who somehow is on a Kespa team to Dreamhack with community money.

*cough, cough*

Am I a terrible person for being absolutely delighted that the money is being used on Puzzle and Coca as a chance to revive their careers? :p

Obviously not, but some people who bought stuff for 500$+ were pissed already when they announced they were sending Coca/Puzzle. Now that Puzzle is on a Kespa team, too, I can't imagine them being any happier.

KT can always give the money back

no but it gives points towards WCS, but it is not a direct WCS tournament. And there are plenty of good koreans.

The Korean lineup is pretty underwhelming. There's some great Koreans here sure but there's a fuck load not here, namely all the Kespa ones plus Life, Taeja and Symbol,

You do know Kespa have an exclusivity deal with MLG involving foreign tournaments, don't you?

That has nothing at all to do with the quality of this lineup. Excuses do not alter the reality.

So you knew that then went ahead and made that post? Okay... so let's edit your quote then.

Exactly, so why did he bother naming the Kespa players (who he knew were ineligible) over all the others?

Because of you listed the best 10 players in the world right now I'd go (in no order):

Life
Roro
Symbol
Soulkey
Parting
Rain
Flash
Innovation
Taeja
Yoda.

Maybe you could squeeze in Gumiho over Yoda.

So there's 1 player in the top 10 in the world at best in this tournament. That's a pretty key point if people are going to talk about foreigner vs korean skill gap.

I dont think anyone's arguing that foreigners have fully caught up to the koreans in skill gap...and being able to compete with the very best..
If they are...they're pretty much being delusional to an incomprehensible degree.
It's fair to say that top of the foreigners can compete with the mid-tier koreans given what we've seen from dreamhack.
They're still far from competing with the best.

Top foreigners have been about as good as mid tier Koreans when playing at foreign LAN's for about two years now (not the case when they play in Korea where foreigners are more like low Code A/Code B level in terms of performance). It's not really a new development at this event or in HOTS.

Liquipedia has Sortof 2-0, but I'm pretty sure it was reported as a win for Puzzle in this thread.

KInd of. It was a 2-0, but I'm not completely sure who won. Tidus Mino says Puzzle, Liquipedia says Sortof. Both advance either way

There is very, very small sample size for top foreigners playing in korea. But even then you could see players like nani, huk and Stephano have respectable performances in the GSL and Stephano in PL.
