A wonwonwon is Parting's own "Soulful immortal+sentry all-in". The name showed up some time after Parting made his comments that he won games with his all-in because he put his soul into it. It's a play on words; 1 won for the Won in his name, 1 for "won" as in the past tense of "to win" and 1 for "won", the Korean currency.

Regardless of who wins the player of the year award, I do sorely hope Wonwonwon wins the best strategy of the year.

hmmph, I don't think the 1st half of the year should have as much weight as the 2nd. Player of the year is the one who ends the year on a high, that's just what feels right.
When I think of DRG in 2012, I unfortunately think of a guy who double failed in GSL S3 and GSTL S2 and let his entire home-town down. Damn.

i miss last year. picking mvp was so easy. But Parting's 2nd half is at least equal to DRG's first half (if Parting wins the Blizzard Cup), and his first half was arguably better than DRG's second half has been with his strong finishes in GSL Season 1 and 2.
If anything PartinG's first half of the year was better in terms of who he was beating and placement in important tournaments, he got ro8 in GSL S1 and ro4 in S2, then he lost in the ro32 twice and then ro16 in 3-5. Blizzard Cup is his first big success in the GSL in a long time.
I still seriously can't believe some people are suggesting a small winstreak in MLG ToC and Blizzard Cup = dominating, are we just going to ignore that Leenock won the toughest foreigner tournament of the entire year while PartinG ran off to WCG to beat up a bunch of foreigners to win? If Anything Leenock has been dominating, but failing to deliver in GSL. Just like PartinG dominated BWC and WCG but failed to deliver in GSL S5 ( the GSL season happening at the same time as them )

You guys really overrate how dominant zerg is right now. Protoss still wins plenty of tournaments and has a 50-50 winrate in PvZ. It's just Terran that has been doing absolutely terribly.

DRG beat a lot of good koreans to get there. also, crappy as DRG's second half may be, he did get an OSL 2nd place, which beats out a GSL RO4 or RO8. PartinG hasn't done well in GSLs at all either in the second half, and a lot of his success was based on one build carrying him. I feel like you're underrating Parting's BWC and WCG wins a bit too much. Maybe the main tournaments weren't that strong, but he did have to go through Korean (and Asian) qualifiers to get to those tournaments. 3rd place in Korea BWC qualifier, 2nd place in Asia BWC qualifier, and 3rd place in the WCG Korea qualifier. Also, yes he's grown famous on one build, but you can't take away the fact that he's winning in a time of Zerg dominance. As Fionn said, it's something we haven't really seen in SC2 yet. Savior also won in a time where his race wasn't supposed to be able to win, primarily off his 3 Hatch Muta build.
It has been a crazy run from PartinG for sure. However, saying that he is winning tournaments left and right when Protoss is weak isn't entirely accurate. Blizzard Cup is the only tournament he is winning with top zergs in them. Due to the timing of tournaments and the raise of the zergs, WCG Korea, BWC Korea actually took place during the 'Protoss' era with Seed/MC GSL finals, Rain, Creator, PartinG, etc
He did win WCS Global, WCG during the 'Zerg' era. However, due to the qualification process, most of the top Korean zergs did not qualify for those tournaments. Is that PartinG's fault? Of course not. But it does degrade has WCS/WCG run. Of course, he is showing in this Bliz Cup it might not have mattered if the top zergs were there. But we will never know.

Parting played in all 5 Code S seasons this year. He got 3rd at WCS Korea and WCG Korea. Had a couple of all-kills. He got 2nd at WCS Asia. Until recently he hasn't won a single major tournament.
He only had to beat one Korean to win BWC and WCG(well some of the other Koreans choked so its not really his fault but fact is he only had to beat one Code S contender level opponent to win these). MLG ToC is pretty stacked but its not really a major tournament. BlizzardCup has similar player pool (6 of 10 also participated in MLG ToC). If it were not for the fact that it was also considered a GSL, has much higher price pool and played lan(live? offline? I don't know what to call it >.>), it would be considered a minor tournament as well imo.
Parting is my #1 favourite player for some time but it's hard to make a case for him when he didn't win anything for the whole year and only started to win stuff in the last 2 months of the year. I can't really argue for Leenock/DRG/Life etc but as for Parting, nah, can't be player of the year when you don't win anything until the last 2 months of the year no matter how big or important the tournaments may be.

Just noticed that it's a ST final, which is great, hopefully they don't let it be a 4-0, i'd like to see a nice epic 4-3

Yes 4Minute and then DRG v. BaBy OMG i cant freaking wait. Im 99% sure that whoever wins between DRG and BaBy will go onto crush NesTea though.

If Life wins, he's player of the year and breakout player of the year. If he doesn't win, he's still breakout player of the year, but it will be a mad free for all between 4-5 different players.

Scarlett, seriously? I like Scarlett, but she won North American WCS events. It's not a worthy comparison. Life is a good breakout player, he had earned $0 on sc2earnings before 2012.
