First of all the down time is incredibly long considering you're basically breaking the bones first and "stretching" the two bones apart throughout the healing process to make the new bone fill in the gap.

2nd of all, its not like rhinoplasty or even liposuction where you're in pain only for a few days post op. The pain factor is much higher and constant. Cost is also much higher.

One has to be affluent, idle, and dedicated to be in pain and immobile for a few months during this elective surgery.
