No players got "invited", and especially would not have gotten invited based on what race they play. Well, are everyone invited purely algorithmically based on previous MLG performances? Are you sure there absolutely no decided invites based on other stuff than that? What about when players can't attend, what decides their invites? I think that when there is room for choice, they try to make it well-distributed by race.
The seeds are based on performance in the Summer Season (Arena > Invite-Only Online Qualifier > Open Online Qualifier), and (if players have equal standing) MLG Rank.

Yes, you can even look on the Liquipedia Article to see exactly how the players get seeded. In a perfect world, the top 16 from Arena and the 8 Kespa players would've all been able to compete in groups so they wouldn't have to go to the unqualified players, but they have consolation matches and such to make sure that this is not a problem.

What the crap is going on here. I am 99.9% sure I saw a post or tweet saying WCS NA should start in just over an hour yet there are no posts about it and nothing on the sidebar.

Is the open bracket official yet? Open bracket starts at 2pm CEST as well?
|
Open bracket kicks off at 5.30PM ET (11.30PM CEST) and will be broadcasted only on premium streams for today.
I couldn't find the bracket on liquipedia so I assume it has not been released yet.

Remember like two weeks ago when MLGLee said they would release a full statement before Raleigh explaining their map pool decisions and why they're keeping maps like Shakuras, Tal'darim, etc.?
Yeah.
Edit: Oh, so TL just asked them about it in the Q&A:
MLG: We want to be close to the ladder maps and 'out of box' players. Our ladder maps are the most balanced of any tournament.
Okay...
MLG, where out of box players assemble to compete for 76,000$ on the 'most balanced ladder maps'.
Edit2: Dug up Lee's twitter post. Was not as long ago as I thought. Still, I haven't seen anything about this.

MLG_Demios, could you please comment on this?

With the current patch?
A map could be balanced but then a patch happens and the map becomes imbalanced...

Look, this map isn't designed for the metagame of Zerg get a third base using only 4 queens, a spine and 2 lings! Wow!
Every Z is going to veto it vs P and T anyway and one of the P's is going to veto it in a mirror also unless they both want to get down and dirty. We might see about 2 flipping games played on this the entire tournament as everyone is so terrified of having to actually have different play styles and builds just for specific maps they'd rather infinitely play Cloud Kingdom, Ohana and Daybreak.
Goes along pretty nicely with the World Champ qualification statistics, Internationally everyone beats Terran, and Zergs beat Protoss!
