Weell since money you earned playing sc2 often correlates with how often you win and how often you win might have something to do with how good you are.. I'd say money is a decent way to figure out who is skilfull and who is not. A lot of prize money often draws in the best players, which would make the tourny prestigious and legit. They are playing for money the tournament doesn't matter. You can be naniwa and spend all your time practicing to do well in gsl and pass on tournaments. Or be Stephano and fly all over the world building your bank account playing in multiple events.
Than there is MC who can do both but he isn't human
