He wasn't ahead; it wasn't even really even... Sting was definitely ahead at the time, but the infestor suicide was just the nail in the coffin imo.

Also: DarkForce usually seems to either play incredibly well or wtf-terribly.

Marines only become exponentially stronger the more you have. They're ranged units.

Trading Zerglings for Marines is a good trade no matter how you cut it. Once you kill that number of marines the Zerg player has a lot of pressure put off him since he knows that it will be a while before the Terran player has enough of a Critical mass.
