Nice play by San but I wish the map/positioning hadn't played such a big part. Symbol really got the worst breaks with a ZvT on Antiga and a ZvP on closer-pos Entombed. Great games all the same ^_^

Where did San go for the past year or so? Is he making a resurgence?

He's done decently in team leagues. Also qualified for MLG Winter Arena. But yeah, has always fallen short of Code A even though he's got so much potential.

Symbol is gonna be so crushed over this, lose in GSL then lose in ODT after going up 1-0 in an epic game with Byun.

Byun would be even more crushed IMO, he was winning a large part of that game vs Symbol and his loss to San was mainly a BO loss. Hope it doesn't affect his performances on Thursday.

MANZENITH! So good last days, SICK CreatorPrime play, and now San!
Well, as always, I know who to root for. As long as San is in play - my heart goes for him!

Bo1 is so retarded; OSL needs to realize that SC2 is much more volatile and less figured out than BW, pretty much anyone can beat anyone else in a Bo1, add the random map pool on top to ice the cake and you'll have these random games where anyone can advance

I think the games have been pretty high quality, and the better play has won.

Byun went for an all-in and failed, It's his fault.

Right, the Bo1's can still be high quality and the better players can still win in that one game, but that doesn't change the fact that the games can go either way, and it also makes the random map choice really retarded.

Yes, and an argument could be made Bo5 is even better and Bo7, Bo9... You can go on and on. But unless they only do 1 group per day, Bo3 just takes too long unless they are all cheese games. You can also argue dual tournament format could be unfair depending on who plays whom first and full round robin is better.

The difference is, Bo1 allows for the randomness in the game (and maps) to come into play a lot more. A player of lower league can still beat a top player if it's just a Bo1, but going up to Bo3 decreases this chance exponentially. Where as the jump going up from Bo7 to Bo9 is negligible because there is almost no chance the lesser player will win in either of this case anyways, that's why higher BoX series is only needed when player's skill gaps get closer and closer (as in the tournament goes higher and higher).

I mean yea, I agree there is always a trade-off between time and accuracy of determining the better players advancing. I just feel that the trade off is worth it for at least going up to Bo3

It doesn't decrease the chances exponentially at all. Do the maths with 60-40 for instance, the difference is actually pretty small.
Bo1 is perfectly fine, and I doubt OGN will change it.

With 60/40 split:

Bo1: better player has 60% chance to win.
Bo3: better player has 64.8% chance to win.

Wrong use of "exponential".
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

I just hope Koreans see today's matches (especially Group B) and see how amazing SC2 can be. OSL really couldn't have asked for better matches to open ODT!

Its never that simple though. The reason Bo3 favors the best players often is because it lessens the impact of specific map imbalances but it seems like this OSL does not have a very diverse map pool anyway.
