Well Stargate opening will obviously discourage drop plays and you will have more information, though the firepower on the ground will not be as strong as immortals. In any case 2 base push should occur before Zerg has drops. I've seen DRG cancels drop research when he scouted incoming 2 base attack.

Squirtle has way too many smart builds though, I highly doubt he ran out of things to do. I think it was a combination of Squirtle getting cocky then set back like that and also Symbol just having the perfect answer to Squirtle. Like I said, the Daybreak build is good, but Roach max + drops destroys it. Every other build would have failed to break Squirtle there.

He was behind due to build orders, which you can consider a form of being better on Squirtle's part, but utilized his own specialties to take the win. There is absolutely no reason to act like MC can never beat Squirtle, the guy is arguably the most consistent high level player (definitely top 3) despite people always acting like he's somehow not performing well anymore.
MC is an O.G., I have absolutely no idea why people were writing him off.

its so crazy how ANYTHING can happen in code s atm, even on the same day one series between two guys goes 2:0, the next 0:2
the skill difference on the highest level is so small, the tiniest decisions or mistakes make all the difference which is exciting and heartbreaking at the same time, poor squirtle and mkp today

On the Daybreak game, Squirtle should have just quit it with the mind games and just have gone for it. Delaying the third spending all that money on the 8 gates, upgrades, robo, etc just screws you over with that later third. At least if he goes for it he's playing against the standard Roach max which he's probably seen a thousand times by now and can micro against it...
On the Entombed game, he cancels the third, but has less gateways and units?? I don't know what he expected there. Such a shame, because he destroyed Symbol in the first set of games.
Actually i understand what Squirtle was doing.
He wanted to faked out and mind-gamed Symbol by building a third and cancel it and kill him.
It worked in the 1st Series but the 2nd Series when Symbol scouted the main and the 3rd, he probably caught on what Squirtle was doing and was actually buildings units way before hand and then proceed to destroy Squirtle by dropping the main and attacking the third.

I despise this kind of all-in mindset as well, "well if that all-in can't do it, then what all-in can?" this GSL cast went from people bashing protoss for being too strong when Squirtle beat Symbol in the first set, to people jumping to the other side saying zerg is too strong when Symbol won the second set they had.
It is so easy to get caught up in the entire matchup balance when you see a strategy get wrecked by another. All games in the Squirtle/Symbol sets were very one-sided one way or another, so people start get agitated by the overall balance of the game, just after the match is done. People need to start realising you can't just judge a couple of games and say "well the world for protoss/zerg no longer stands, let's start whining about balance"
Clearly Symbol's only option wasn't to go 4 base roach corruptor in the first game, clearly Squirtle's only option wasn't to 2 base immortal/sentry all-in the last game. I hope someone understands this.

I cheer against him but he is a great player. Probably something to do with the fact that he has "regressed" (two GSL champs to none in awhile), while others like Squirtle have rapidly improved (nothing to GSL Finals). Really MC is a great player though.

He beat Symbol with similar mindgames in the 1st match as the 2nd match. almost every one of the games they played involved a 3rd nexus being canceled.

Lmao, you can say why people dislike MC but he has won 3 major to premiere tournaments this year. He has been knocked out of tournaments largely by the people who went on to win them or place very high. He's in GSL Ro8. There are no legitimate reasons to write off MC, because his results show that he is one of the most consistent players. Like someone has mentioned earlier, he's won more money than the 5 other protoss behind him combined. He's won more major tournaments than probably every other protoss combined.

I'd be interested in seeing some stats on W/L when a player that beat someone earlier in the group has to play him again at the end. We always just sort of assume that the first-time winner will have a confidence boost going in, but I can't remember too many occasions when the winner of set 1 ended up winning the rematch as well...
