This was definitely something that needed to be done. Welcome to the first big reverse race Starcraft II tournament. Players offrace on ladder or smurf accounts all the time, let's see how professional players fare when they have to play each other's races in a tournament environment. Will they teach each other how their races are really supposed to be played or will we see funny mistakes from all sides? Creative or standard? "Consider switching races" or "never touch that race again"? This tournament would not be possible without our great sponsor Alienware.

![[image loading]](http://files.team-dignitas.net/upload/reverserace_rules.png) You just play each other's races, okay? Fine, here you have it in more detail: + Show Spoiler +Format: 16 player Single Elimination
Match format: All matches Bo3, Final Bo5
Reverse Race: In each match, players will choose the default race of their opponent. - Example: (Terran) Grubby vs Kas (Protoss)
Mirror matches: The non-mirror matchups of the other two races will be played first. For a possible third map, the regular races will be played. The upper player in the bracket chooses his race for the first map BEFORE the map veto. - Example: DarK.FoRcE vs Slivko – DarK.FoRcE chooses Protoss for the first map before the map veto - - Map 1: (Protoss) DarK.FoRcE vs Slivko (Terran) - - Map 2: (Terran) DarK.FoRcE vs Slivko (Protoss) - - Map 3: (Zerg) DarK.FoRcE vs Slivko (Zerg)
Mirror match in Final: Again, non-mirror matchups of the other two races first. For maps 3 and 4, the mirror matchups of those races will be played. For a possible fifth map, the regular races will be played. The upper player chooses his race for the first map (which will also be the mirror race for map 3). - Example: ClouD vs SjoW – ClouD chooses Zerg for the first and third map - - Map 1: (Zerg) ClouD vs SjoW (Protoss) - - Map 2: (Protoss) ClouD vs SjoW (Zerg) - - Map 3: (Zerg) ClouD vs SjoW (Zerg) - - Map 4: (Protoss) ClouD vs SjoW (Protoss) - - Map 5: (Terran) ClouD vs SjoW (Terran)

i dont understand the race picking rules for mirror matchups on your page. can you explain in a more clear way? thanks!
other than mirror MU, should be fun

On June 23 2012 03:33 nath wrote: i dont understand the race picking rules for mirror matchups on your page. can you explain in a more clear way? thanks!
other than mirror MU, should be fun basically we don't want standard and we don't want one of them to have an advantage by playing their actual race so in a TvT mirror we want them to play ZvP and PvZ (and TvT as decider) mirror match in final (Best of 5), we would want them to play ZvP, PvZ, ZvZ, PvP (and TvT as 5th decider map) is that clearer?
If you're both zergs 1 player gets toss and the other gets terran. Then the next game the first player gets terran and the second gets protoss. If its 1-1 by that point you'll just play the mirror match up (zvz). And then this: The upper player in the bracket chooses his race for the first map BEFORE the map veto. to decide who picks the first race.

Who gets to pick?

I really love the idea Good luck!

Who gets to pick? Ah, ok. So two Terrans meet and they are yet to do the map veto. Before knowing what the first map will be, the "upper" player (in the bracket) has to decide which race he will play in the first map (P or Z). Say he picks Zerg, they do the veto, now knowing the first map will be ZvP and the 2nd map PvZ. Basically we don't want them to veto and THEN let one player pick his race, both players should know the matchup before vetoing.

I love this idea. Hope this tourney will be a sucess so that we'll have more tourneys like this in the future
This is a fantastic idea. I'm excited to tune in!
Really, really excited to watch this! Although i'm not waking up at 6:00am lol
Cool idea! Socke and Grubby need to be in this, their bo3 TvT they played in a weekly cup once was pretty cool.
Finally. Hope more tournaments like this happen.
Bling imbA off race Zerg!!
This should be fun!! Ill definitely tune in
That map pool is.... fun?
I've thought this would be really cool for a while!! Awesome.
Just a heads up
Khaydaria is sorta broken in terms of the game variants switching modes and not allowing 1v1 to occur properly, but it should be resolved this monday.

Morrow will soooo win if he's in this
Unless there is MC, because MC is insane at zerg. True story.
will tune in, i think it's gonna be fun
Seems like a neat idea, seen a good number of terran pros offracing zerg on ladder these days (and doing better than with their main race...)
Going to enjoy seeing grubby playing terran
Socke has really good offraces
Announcing GoOdy, White-Ra, Cytoplasm and HappyZerG as our next four players! Also, the four streams providing full game coverage have now been announced (check out the OP)!
GoOdy is so good that he will go mech even as a zerg. You will see!!
Looking very forward to this tournament. I assume Morrow is permabanned from a tourney like this?
Come to think of it, I remember watching something online where Goody specifically racepicked into PvP instead of having to play TvP, so he must be at least somewhat confident in his Protoss. It stuck out to me because I remember thinking "who in the fuck would possibly racepick PvP"
Can't wait to see some sick special tactics for T and Z too!
this will be great, funny idea!
what a great idea, i'll definetely turn into that ^.^
Haha looking forward to Goody doing "mech style" with one of the other races :D
This looks awesome, but what happens if its mirror matchup? Unless you have something preventing it
Oh boy, Goody is a great pick for this. :D
This should be fun! Looking forward to seeing the pros play with each other's races :-)
Great idea, gonna definitely tune in if I'm not busy
Goody all the way!! Good thing he practiced some protoss recently.
On June 27 2012 02:22 wihlborg wrote: This looks awesome, but what happens if its mirror matchup? Unless you have something preventing it
Look in the OP, on a mirror matchup (say PvP) the first game will be ZvT, then TvZ, and if it goes to an ace match that would be PvP (main races).

Announcing Beastyqt, meRz, elfi and Stephano as the final participants! Also the brackets are out (in OP or here)! Do you like the player pool?

gogog Goody, DT drop youtr way to victory

Ah sad DarKFoRcE isn´t in it, his Terran is quite good =) Totally going to watch this.
Looking forward to this so much, as well as reuniting with Martijn after meeting him at i45 :-) See you all tomorrow! <3
Awesome idea for a tournament!
Darkthorn - Nerchio couldn't make it
Am definately looking forward to casting this later though
My money is on Stephano.. when he was playing terran in ladder he still raped in GM..... i havent seen his toss but considering that his biggest strength is game sense then he should still be able to do good.
Im surprised they could assemble those kind of players with this prize pool.
I really think Goody goes far in this tournament, because he's one of the best Protoss offracers out there. Will be interesting to see him play zerg though. :p
Very cool idea, I can't wait how this will turn out to be
nice idea, lets see some not p vs not z :D
SockeZerg gogo
i hope cloud plays protoss vs terran when he likes to complain he can show why protoss so stronkk :D
edit: cloud vs goody round one bahahaha :D but no tvt lets see how high apm goody does with protoss x)))

will there be vods up anywhere to watch??? there's no way i'll be able to stay up that late tonight
Beastyqt dropped out of the tournament very short notice. Nerchio, who had intitially declined the invite but found time to play after all, will replace him.
Excited for this, but I am disappointed by the lack of SeleCT.
To bad Beasty is out but awesome Nerchio is back in. Hopefully Bling gets to play some Terran and ditches that whole toss crap.
Obviously, gogogo BlinG !!!
this is going to be so much fun! :D glgl
BlinG too experienced ZvP after all the reverse race games against Stephano.
Teevox multistream viewer already setup for the tournament. Unfortunately Teevox has 4 windows but can run only 3 streams at once. I haven't included imbatv at the moment because the stream seems to be off. If you want to switch to it just click on the stream that you want to replace, hit spacebar, type imba in the box and enter.
Also sometimes Teevox setup links don't get read correctly: if you click this link but it gives you no streams close the tab and retry.
Nerchio is going to take this
Grubby offraced like a boss in wc3, should've gotten him too!
Socke's ZvT too stronk :D
Nerchio has this pretty easily in my opinion. He was like top10 GM random with 80% ratio -_-

Very entertaining so far saw White Ra as Zerg and Merz as Zerg, cool stuff =)

Terran players are gonna tear this up.

Sucks that Stephano got Nerchio in the first round. I wonder if that was intentional by those who arranged the tourney.

It was TvP, PvT, ZvZ Tiebreak.
Doesn't matter though, Nerchio is autoloss (for Stephano) because he is a sick random player and Stephano is mediocre offrace. He will probably win it all. Stephano didn't feel like losing.

Well thats the rules if their main races are mirrored.
I think it would be more fun if they would roll a dice which race they mirror in the last game if its 1 - 1 after the 2 offrace games

Yeah but he is doing poor job, i mean he could own a lot of different tournaments and earn lots of money instead he is just wasting this time. If the reason of this is really lack of organization i highly doubt he will get his degree (unless he changes his behavior a lot and old habits die hard). But i am just speculating here.

That's true, I remember Nerchio was the highest ranked random player on EU for several seasons, it's easy to forget since he's been playing Zerg for so long now.
Nerchio vs Gumiho bo7 random, someone do it.

I am just not sure beeing a doctor really is something for him. He will need to work much more than 30 hours a week. And not showing up to an operation is realy bad, as well as showing up wasted.

As a french person who has several friends who studied to become doctors, I can guarantee you that being drunk and partying is apparently the most important thing to know how to properly do in medicine university.
Yet our doctors are pretty good and motivated, I don't really understand why or how.

Wow, people should really calm down. It is just a game guys, he didn't feel like participating and is probably losing some fans and a little bit of credibility in his team. It's not like it is a particularly important tournament or noteworthy in any way. Some people will be pissed at him, but thats something he doesn't care about.
I know several ppl who are going to be doctors and have exceptional grades in medical school, and they party like CRAZY and aren't necessarily super organised about everything. If anything doctors are a little bit less organised on average than other people I would say.
such a great tournament. the casters though, especially at glhf.tv are pretty... average. pointing out completly irrelevant stuff and analyzing stuff simply wrong kills the fun. why dont they cast the obvious when they dont know better :/ i dont get it

I could only join like 30 mins ago.

Missed the first game of the finals, was there "BM" by Nerchio?

hey I think they feel it that way ;D

wow, martijn has rly no idea what hes talking about... Kas made an roach bling allin (or at least planned so) and martijn says after the game (failed allin obv) - "wouldve much rather prefered to stay defensive with those roaches". WTF? u cant build 20 roaches on 2 base to then not allin.
stuff like that happens the whole day, its rly hard to listen to them... as if they didnt watch sc2 for a year oO
€: wtf? "old builds"? nerchio went for banshees which is pretty much the standard today. there are no "new builds" in TvZ to be honest... very, very sad to listen to them. why dont they just stay still when they clearly dont know what they say

Reverse manner tournament too!

Kas really hates overlords apparently.
Zerg floating gas & terran floating minerals.
That was a relatively good game by Nerchio.
Love the idea! Would love to see off-race tourneys more often.
Can someone please quote the chat from 5th game? I missed it.
Basically Nerchio was saying stuff about terran - "free marines" and such, then Kas responded with sth like "first you try to make me angry, then you expect me to laugh, u normal?". I think Kas is taking this way too seriously
Well played, Kas, well played!

There was no baneling nest..... Kas might have scouted, i dont know, but it definetly was not a baneling all-in.

Nerchio is the only zerg player to have won a game? Interesting...
Congratulations to Kas for winning the 200£, Nerchio takes 100£ for second place.
LucifroN and DieStar both go home with 50£.
Thank you for watching, let us know in the comments if you want us to do more tournaments like this one.
This is probably the only tournament in which you probably do not want a ton of people from the race you cheer for finishing in the top 4... Not sure what this reinforces about the current state of terran but entertaining matches non the less.
Interesting, Nerchio is the only zerg to win a set and the only one to beat a terran not in TvT
so basically terrans won all their matches? probably coz they usually play easiest-to-play race, right? ^^
I knew the second it was announced people would try to use this tournament to make subtly implied balance statements.
It was really fun see the ways in which each of the pros screwed up when playing their offraces!
Congrats to Kas!
Just wanted to say this tournament was the most fun I've had with sc2 in months. Thanks to those tuning in and those that made the tournament possible.
Like we said on the cast, you can't reach any real balance conclusions from this seeming the amount of time and experience players have offracing varies heavily. And more than anything, please please please don't ruin my fun with balance statements one way or the other :p
