Let's look at the ONLY REAL best players in the past
Nestea MC MVP
Both in their period of dominance with multiple GSL wins. Nestea may have had the briefest but he went undefeated in his 3rd title. Had the title of best ZvZ and ZvP in his prime
MVP, the most recent went on a rampage last year. He was the best at TvT and tied with MMA for best TvZ. TvP wasn't really shown as Protoss was at it's weakest in his time.
MC I think by far had the biggest impact on his "best" player in the world winning multiple tournies outside Korea as well as the first to win 2 GSL titles. In his prime he had the best PvT, PvZ, and PvP.
These three earned their "best player in the world"
To say that MKP is the best due to a huge fanbase and 2 MLG is very premature. He still loses TvT's and TvP's. Right now there is no "best player in the world".
Just look at the 3 I mentioned and compare them to who you're calling best player in the world right now. They don't even compare I think MC was the briefest if anything and the weakest of the three until recently. Now he's the best. Nestea was the best in all three match ups for sure among zergs, until DRG began to live up to the hype again towards the end of 2011 and Leenock turned into a super saiyan, while Nestea went into a nosedive. Not to mention, Nestea was significantly better than the other zergs for a very long time. Closest opposition until DRG was Losira for him, and Nestea spanked his ass. 2/3 of his gsl wins were during the dark ages for Zergs as well. MVP dominated the most, due to being both insanely solid and intelligent, and the metagame at the time being very good for Terran (remember GomTvT). MC had a huge disadvantage because of him playing protoss and protoss being at a pretty huge disadvantage in the meta-game for almost a year. I dont think protoss was ever underpowered, but i think the Maps used in GSL vastly favored Zergs macro style and Terran 1/1/1 all-ins for a very long time. Take it with a grain of Salt, but MC once said "if i played terran i would have won my third GSL a long time ago" I also think that out of Nestea, MVP and MC, MC was the one who looked the most dominant and completley unstoppable during his reign. He won pretty much every tournament he entered and he looked completley unstoppable in every matchup. MVP always looked beatable in TvP and Nestea has never won a series against MC AFAIK.
Meh, I'll give you Protoss was at a disadvantage during the 1/1/1 and Infestor era (probably from May - November), prior to that though they were perfectly fine. People were struggling against turtle->Deathball play for awhile(namely zergs) and that Amulet upgrade used to be pretty damn good.
MC also focused on attending foreign events more than most Koreans around that time as well, and generally faced much easier competition. MC was 4-0'd by Top in a tournament right after he won his 1st, and the next season Jinro 2-0'd him and MKP beat him to knock him out in the ro16. MVP almost went undefeated in gsl January(dropped 1 to Nestea), Nestea was undefeated until getting knocked out by MVP and also was undefeated until the finals in his 1st gsl win. MVP and Nestea got 1st and 2nd in a pretty stacked Gainward tournament around this time (MVP dropped 1 game here). MC was also famously defeated by Thorzain in TSL3 with no lag handicap not long after his 2nd title. All in all, even before that nasty period for toss players, MC still wasn't too far ahead of MVP and Nestea imo, if at all.

Speaking of amulet play, imagine how OP Parting would be now if amulet hadn't been taken out of the game.

MC in his prime was the best at all matchups. He was #1 PvZ, #1 PvP, and #1 PvT. MVP was #1TvT and was tied with MMA with TvZ, TvP was irrelevant since Protoss were dead in his time. Nestea also had #1 in his matchups.
Point being is that to be the best player, you can't just have one strong match up. You have to be the best at each matchups. Parting best player? Only his PvT is good, and even at that there are still prospect Protoss that can take that title from him, he just gets the spotlight with hype. MKP? He has bad TvT..
So ignoring what casters say, there is NO best player atm. Wait till MVP heals or when MC stops getting lazy

man... I just went to find the Taeja vs MKP live report. Is it just me or does SC2 fans suck at LR threads... I mean nothing wrong with just talking to each other, but there is little to no actual LR and game recap. Usually I navigate by the pages of GG's. I dunno I guess the BW LR's haven't quite caught on here yet.
not a bw vs sc2 post, relax. Just an observation.
Also, I know there is a live report spoiler section on the front, but it's not the same as a real LR in the thread, doesn't have the same excitement given off by everyone. Anyways, I was just surprised by the lack of excitement in the thread during these games.

Gogogogo someone be a LR Thread hero of the day~
I would but I didn't sleep much last night so even though I don't sleep much in the first place I am afraid of the potential pass-out. Or I might be too busy raging if Squirtle plays poorly.

probably because the second series of games themselves aren't that great, with MKP derping all over himself

i'll be able to LR again once the month is over ie ro8, ro4, finals, etc though i don't like LR'ing that much though since LRing makes me enjoy the games a bit less ie i have a responsibility and can't fully immerse myself in the game and also that mkp stuffs up whenever i LR (GSTL finals, IPL4 and yesterday... haha)

Wolf and Artosis were seriously crushing it today.
I especially loved Artosis in the Parting v Stc set on Antiga where Artosis gets fucking psyched that it was Gate Robo Gate v Hellion drop. The sick summary of the like 10 game minutes of craziness right before Parting got back the lead was awesome too.

This comment doesn't make sense at all. He still has by far the best results in 2012 Uh no he doesn't. DRG won a GSL and an MLG, with 2 second places at MLGs, won the King of Kongs and FXOIS 5. MKP won 2 MLGs, with a second place at MLG, and a second place at FXOIS 5. Both players were in all of these events. Even if you somehow argue that MLG is worth more than GSL, or add in the GSTL finals (which some would dispute), there is no way that MKP's results are "by far" better than DRG's. I like how you listed 2nd places for DRG at MLGs then ignore the 2340983204983 2nd places MKP had, including several GSLs

Seeing MKPs reaction after the loss to PartinG, I think he tilted hard because he felt that it was happening again (not getting to RO8, again.) I love PartinG, but that broke my heart :/
