I agree MLG(Sundance XD) is basically always playing the victim and if we don't give them 1300 Great British Pence then we are all killing esports!

Um what? He has never said that. He has only said watch it if you want to and can afford it. Oh and that if you like it and are watching restreams to consider buying it next time.

When they did the fighting game stuff the twitch stream and MLG stream were both showing the same content but were separate. (The twitch part was down for alot of one day)
I assume that anyone watching the games with the MLG player is not counting towards the twitch numbers

just compare both LR Threads. DH has 10 times the amount of pages. I'M enjoying both tournaments, especially with DRG having finally waken up and Thorzain owning it up at DH!

A paid event getting less viewers!?!? Someone call the cops!

DH is free and has been going for about 14 hours straight now. Of course it has more pages >_>

Foreigner event that's free vs a basically korean ppv event (MLG may be based in America but it's all Koreans now)
Bit different

If you look at right bar, at least 1k viewers are watching random streams.
If you look on the list it's ordered by number, by the bottom of the page already you are in to streamers with less than 5 viewers. There are only 106 streamers in total so it's pretty likely that although you cannot directly see the MLG viewer numbers you can infer it by the different from the total.

Indeed they do, here's the twitch link to SCA stream: http://www.twitch.tv/mlg_sca

I just thought it was interesting... if you honestly think I'm poking fun at MLG or calling their model rubbish then you're completely wrong. I watched paid to watch Arena 1 as it had DeMusliM in it and loads of other players. This weekend I've actually needed sleep and made do with checking out the few free matches. Obviously the event is great quality and I'm sure the games have been aw well, I just posted these stats for interest.

I kind of like the paid events, makes the LR's pretty readable with the odd trolling from butt hurt posters.
|
That was a weird engagement. Surely thought Ganzi would be crushed right then, but it turns out to be a wash somehow.
|
I think 10 000 concurrent viewers are reasonable for a ppv model for a smallish (number of players and games) tournament.
|
I'm trying to understand a few things about the business models of MLG vs DH.
DH has live viewers, a much bigger cast of players (128), a bigger prize pool and arguably better streaming. MLG has only 8 players, kinda glitchy streaming and a much smaller prize pool (though admittedly, the players are bigger names). How does the DH business model work? Are ads and sponsors that good for DH? O_O

I personally prefer MLG as they have the top players and top casters. Also i have lagless 1080 with no gaps between games, MLG is fucking awesome
To be honest all this tournament rivalry is completely stupid and irrelevant. We all love SC2, there are two tournaments on at the same time thanks to the popularity of SC2. I am just glad there is so much content to watch and choose from. I personally think it's completely worth the $10, but others just don't even consider paying for MLG while another great tournament is on and I don't blame them.
If these tournaments had better communication and would organise a bit better at the start of the year to avoid conflicted and overlapping MAJOR tournaments, I think it would be better for everybody involved, especially the viewers.
Edit: Woo DRG vs MKP rematch number three!

The DH audience have all had to buy a ticket to be there. Competitors had to buy competitor passes, anyone competing had to pay their own travel and accomodation costs.... all adds up!
