If three teams tie in points in the Champions League, then a "mini-pool" using the six games they played against each other is exactly what you'd have to determine the tiebreaker. Obviously in a single round robin in SC2, it's easy to break a two-way tie, but three-way ties where A>B>C>A in matches are more difficult. If you (as a tournament organizer) want to consider map score, then the question is whether to give priority to map score among those in the tie, or overall map score. That's not much different from choosing whether to break a tie in a group in football by in-tiebreaker points/GD first (what UEFA CL does) or overall GD first (what FIFA WC does); the differences in the possible results from a single game compared to SC2 don't really matter. It's more of a question of how much emphasis you want to put on the head-to-head result when breaking a tie. I don't have much of an opinion on which way it "should" be; I just found it strange that your first example was a tournament that takes secondary H2H stuff into account (GD, goals scored, away goals) before overall goal differential. | ||
