Its not that uneven. There are 11 Protoss out of 24. At least one race is usually a bit overrepresented.

It should be pretty obvious that players flying in from all over the world are not always able to find a place to practice in a completely foreign city.

Seriously IEM??!! how dumb are you? this happens before every tournament. before IPL 3 huk, white-ra and others hired a pc room and stayed there a couple of days. before dreamhack winter naniwa, ret, haypro, hero and others all boot camped in Stockholm at inferno online. tournament organizers have no obligation to provide practice environment to players before tournaments, and the only tournaments that've done it from what I know are the dreamhack invitationals.

Right, but that's if he only found out about going to Hanover just last week or something. Idra was the winner of IEM Guangzhou, so he pretty much knew he would be there since October. You would think that he could have done some simple trip planning with all that time to prepare? Tournament organizers are only expected to provide just enough computers for the competition itself. Any more and it is a bonus. Sometimes you can get lucky and it will be held at Kiev (major LAN center where there are tons of extra PCs) but asking for ,what, ~30 computers at a tradeshow just for practice is unreasonable (space constraints). You couldn't possibly be asking for 1 extra computer just so Idra can practice right?

You couldn't possibly be asking for 1 extra computer just so Idra can practice right? Well...the ESL rents a HUGE space at cebit (world's largest computer expo, I can only imagine what that costs) which I really respect and give them a lot of credit for! However at the same time they fail at such an easy thing, I mean you could just rent a room somewhere and set up some computers for players to practice or I dont know. But if you spend hundreds of thousands of € on such a tournament you should do your very best to provide the best possible conditions to the players!

Always amusing hearing people whine uncontrollably about other being complaining. Lol at you calling other people "brats", that's exactly how you're acting. You can criticize them without acting like a twelve year old.

Question is wether IEM actually has anything to do with the choice of hotels or if they maybe just provide transport to the venue and the teams choose the hotels... I have never seen anything like that in germany. This looks like a youth hostel and not a good one too. I highly doubt the ESL would force all the players to book into something like that. A normal reasonably priced city hotel, what I strongly assume they would use, looks very different... But I don't know, so I could be wrong.

A normal reasonably priced city hotel, what I strongly assume they would use, looks very different... But I don't know, so I could be wrong. It seems IEM provides accommodation. Idra complained, Thorzain agreed ESL accommodation could be lousy. Nazgul commented on IEM's troubles. This would all be very strange if teams themselves provided accommodation. The reason given for accommodation of this sort is that cebit is going on which according to people in the now closed Idra twitter complaint thread means you need to book months in advance and prices see over 1000% increase. I have stayed at several cheap hotels in Germany and they all looked considerably better than this. Of course this wasn't during CeBIT (or near Hannover).
