ASUS ROG StarCraft II Tournament at ASSEMBLY Winter 2012 announces the first eight invited players who have been given a slot for the $ 20 000 tournament. In addition, the caster crew is revealed.
A week ago we announced that ASSEMBLY Winter, Feb 24-25th, is once again going to be a host for a big international StarCraft II event, the ASUS ROG StarCraft II tournament. We asked interested players to apply for an invite to the competition if they felt they should get a chance to be one of the 32 players attending the tournament. So far we have received over 70 applications and we are glad about the interest the player community has shown towards ASUS ROG. The level of the applicants is also very promising, and to get you as excited as we are, we reveal the first eight players that have been granted a slot in the tournament:
On top of a skilled players, a proper StarCraft II event requires skilled voices to commentate and analyze the games for the audience. For the two first ASUS ROG events we have been lucky to have one of the most popular and skilled casting duos out there, TotalBiscuit and Apollo, and this time is no exception; they will return. But since the demand for StarCraft II is growing fast we will be introducing an additional international stream with the higest level of shoutcasting. And next to the already two mentioned gentlemen in our caster-crew we also welcome mr. Khaldor and MrBitter to Helsinki, Finland.
Stay tuned for more news about ASUS ROG Tournament.
Players - how to apply To play in the tournament, an invite must be requested by sending an email to info@peliliiga.fi with the subject of “ASUS ROG StarCraft II” and details describing at least the full name, nationality, player name and achievements of the applicant. Applications will be received until the end of January 2012. Note that a player may only be granted a slot in the tournament, no expenses are covered.

To be fair, they had 1 Korean in the tournament because a bunch of Koreans backed out at the least minute as they have a tendency to do in European tournaments.
|
SeleCT! Finally! Gogo Assembly! ♥
|
Omg do want Moon and Grubby in the same group.
Also, Mr Bitter goes everywhere, why doesn't Rotterdam ever join him? They are up there as my favourite casting duos. Always love to see Apollo casting though.

yeah! <3 khaldor & bitter.

As far as I remember Nada was the only Korean ever announced for Assembly Summer. Unless some Koreans were tentatively confirmed but never made public.
A lot of Koreans pulled out of Dreamhack Summer, a few from Dreamhack Winter and MC pulled out of the ASUS ROG Invitational.

Moon is going to waste everyone.

rotterdaam, comee

I'm also curious why no RotterdaM?

I'm so happy to see Moon in that list! Awesome! Can't wait to see him destroy everybody.

Grubby vs Moon in the finals, please WC3 gods strike a deal with SC2
|
It doesn't have to be the finals, I'd just be really happy to see Moon vs Grubby. I don't think they've met in SC2 yet.
|
Interesting that it is FnaticRaidCall rather than FnaticMSI. Is RaidCall pumping more money into Fnatic rather than MSI now? Makes me sad . FnaticMSI sounds so much better and looks cooler.

Players so far are kinda MEH

Moon, Grubby..... instant classic.

Lets hope Strelok can finally attend another tournament without having Visa issues - I always felt bad for the man.
I'm really eager to see how much Moon has been improving in Sc2 GOGO Moon fighting!

I want to see Moon. Feels like this is gonna be his big debut into SC proper.

Interesting invites. Khaldor is a bit overrated in my opinion (in that his knowledge of the game seems a tad lacking), but I'm excited for the tournament overall!

Moon )))) My favourite eSportler of all time! Good to see him back to SC2, why he left I never understood, he already was kicking ass after such short practice time. I hope he can perform decently after a lot of WC3 training over the last couple of months.
And: Why is everybody asking for Rotterdam!? He casts ESL and HSC because ESL do not care about quality and he's a friend of Takes / Take is ESL. I know he has knowledge of the game. I know he has pleasent voice, good english and that all. But he manages to piss me off so often. MrBitter: "And your Unit control is propably a bit better than mine" Rotterdam: "Not only a bit, I am a lot better than you"
This is just the one example I remember right now, however he does this constantly he shows no respect towards players and cocasters, he behaves like a famous person with a bad character. I don't like it one bit.
I mean, even if it is the truth, you should not be rude while on TV, especially not towards a coworker.
(Wasn't that bad at HSC4, but I believe that is because all the players were within punching range.)

I guess you missunderstud Rotti there, he is the last person to be rude, he just loves to joke, enjoy game and life and this was clearly joking with Mr.Bitter, he is used to the british humor.

http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/news/the-first-details-about-the-mlg-2012-pro-circuit
The Top 8 finishers from MLG’s 2011 National Championship in Providence will be invited to join the Top 8 finishers from each regional online tournament (24 total players) for the MLG Winter Arena in New York City on February 24-26. All 32 players will receive all-expenses-paid trips to the MLG Winter Arena, where a $26,000 prize pool will be up for grabs. MLG Winter Arena is set on the same date as ASSEMBLY Winter. I hope confirmed players to ASUS ROG will keep their word and come despite of MLG.

Don't think they can move the date at this point anymore, im quite sure the places and dates are locked already. Atleast Asus ROG is, becouse it is happening on Assembly Winter.

*Facepalm*, yet another EU tournament we're casting gets the shaft due to MLG clashes.
The Curse of MLG
|
at least the qualifications for MLG are a few weeks before it so you can get an idea of who remaining will be available.
As a spectator, I *love* these weekends, when MLG is over this will just be starting bye bye sleep schedule
|
This could be solved if the tournaments announced their dates much earlier, so there is time for others to reschedule. For example, Dreamhack announces their dates two years prior to the event starting, which means no one else schedules their events for the same time.
MLG and Assembly announcing it a few weeks prior to the event starting is simply way too late and is bound to cause conflicts.
|
MaNa vs Moon in the final and somehow someway he's second place again. j/k but gl to him lol,
|
The first 8 already looks great! I'm still waiting for GoOdy, White-Ra, Socke, Jinro, MorroW, Brat_OK and Naama!
|
I hope none of these initial 8 are the ones who cancelled their appearance so they could go play at MLG instead.

The ASSEMBLY event is open between 24-26th while ASUS ROG Tournament will run through 24-25th.

so, in the pattern the invites are listed, can we expect the next few to have longer names than: FnaticRaidCall\ kr (Z)Moon?
|
|
With MLG sure to draw some of the bigger names and split the talent this could be an amazing opportunity for some other players to get some fame and fortune (I'm sure it would be more appealing than going through the open brackets!).

existence of Assembly winter has been known for a long time already so i dont think that they announced their event too late. Only ASUS ROG were announced now but it was clear that there would be pro-Starcraft 2 tournametn at Assembly
|
It is obvious that MLG just doesn't consider any of the tournaments they deem of lesser value when deciding their schedule. Assembly's dates have been known for a very long time now, MLG just probably didn't remember the whole thing existed, and didn't care to think that there would be a Major SC2 tournament in one of the larger LAN parties in europe. Typical America centrism if you ask me. I would expect at least a couple of the already published names withdraw from the tournament roster because of this, but one can always hope.
|
Exited to see MooN, Grubby, Sheth and SeleCT out of those 8.

oh wow that sucks. Would be much nicer for fans of Starcraft to be able to see both tournaments with everyone that's supposed to be in it. Hope everything works out.

Moon going to take it all!

ROG should sign contracts with the players so that they can't leave rog for another tournament or something like that. Come or pay a hefty fine.
|

Yeah, SC2 is eventually going to need some sort of "player association" as well. I wouldn't be upset if ASUS ROG made some sort of statement like "If you withdraw your commitment and then attempt to reapply you'll only be eligible for <100% of the prize payout". However their best bet is to do try more positive reinforcement like increasing the prize pool or somthing...
Either way, looking forward to the next update!
|
Honestly i dont see whats the problem player wise. Theres a lot of European players that will certainly come to Assembly. There were not that much European players attending MLG anyway. Americans will certainly go to MLG, but likewise its not like many of them would go to Assembly anyway. And regarding Koreans theres abundance of good Korean players and i dont feel like it will be a huge problem. There will bo some conflicts sure, but i feel You are making too much of a deal of it.
Assembly will be much harder hit viewer wise than player wise for sure, as most of the Americans will watch MLG. You have to take timezones into account. Assembly will start in the middle of the night for NA and finish in middle of the day, while MLG will start in theuropean evening and finish in the middle of the night.
|
Would be nice for EG to send a player. Machine could do very well here instead of MLG and would give him a chance to maybe post up a result to save him from the cut that seemed to happen to Axslav and Strifeco.

I think that some of the EU and KR players willing to travel could end up going to MLG (with free tickets). I do agree that it still leaves a LOT of EU talent and there's always lots of KR talent (when they feel like traveling).
I don't think Assembly will see a big hit on viewers unless the there's some overlap. If anything, having NA viewers excited to watch SC2 and tuning in before MLG starts could help...

So, it's just 3 weeks to the tournament and no discussion in over a week, what's with this =O
I'll say that after walking to school today in -25 Celsius degrees and almost becoming a living icicle I can say that if you thought IEM Kiev was cold, you've seen nothing yet! Welcome to Finland ^-^ (In Kiev the temp was -1 to -7 celsius most of the time)
