Can you give me an example in any sport where a final was not played due to one player forfeiting? That sort of thing does not happen much if at all.
You do not do this sort of thing. Imagine a World Cup where in the finals one team forfeits. I wonder what would happen.

Sad to see Stephano act in this manner. It seems that he has little respect for the people who put in the time to make sure a tourney like this can happen. The man should have known the repercussions of attending multiple tourneys in succession.
Also, the fact that this was the finals and he just waltzed off, very disturbing. I understand wanting to cut the guy some slack since it is late, but he should have known what he was signing up for. You don't see Kas complaining and it's pretty late for him as well.

I would partially agree. In theory the correct response for them is to give him his 2nd place and then just not invite him to future events. IMO players in invitationals have a duty to actually play it out as the invitation is a gift of sorts from the tournament organizers. They were invited to a tournament with (in some cases) guaranteed prize money because of their draw to fans and to help the organizers gain viewers. To ditch for any non-emergency reason is a slap in the face to the organizers who gave them their spot.

I am personally more appauled by the casters remark than by Stephano's actions. I don't approve of what Stephano did, but I don't really care, it's something I'm not surprised he would do. It's like being shocked that Idra didn't GG in a game. Stephano goes to his own beat.

Well, that was 5 weeks and 5 days more than Poland but sure I get your point. The French never wanted to fight with Germany and got caught with their pants down while still trying to negotiate peace.. heh

Regarding Stephano Situation
Hello, this is Deric, the President of One Nation of Gamers. While we were gearing up to begin the 3rd place match, Stephano stated that it was too late for him to play and that he was going to be going to sleep. He gave us the ultimatium that if he can’t play another day he will forfeit the match and then logged off.
If One Nation of Gamers is going to work out and do our part to grow eSports, we have to be an organization that puts the fans first. Given that principle, I came to the decision to penalize Stephano and move him to 4th place, have Catz and Illusion play for 2nd/3rd, and have the victor play against Kas.
Everyone involved with One Nation of Gamers has worked incredibly hard -for months- to raise the $3,000 that we’ve put up for grabs. It’s not a lot to everyone, but it’s a lot to us and represents months of volunteer work. We decided to run this tournament to give back to eSports, we wanted to help the pros earn a little more and we wanted to provide some great content to the fans. We believe everyone deserves to see an appropriate final series for $1,500. I realize this decision might be unpopular and I apologize profusely.
I'm incredibly disappointed in Stephano for this unprofessional behaviour. Didn't the organizers of the event waited for him to have his break after finishing the SCAN Invitational? He could at least drink a Redbull and stay up for the finals. I think he should have some respect. Read the statement above. This young organization deserves more love and ofc understanding from pro's like Stephano when it comes to delays or anything else. They're giving back to the pro's - as the result of months of volunteer work. This is incredible and I no longer have respect for Stephano and I dislike his superstar behavior...

they would be 2nd cause they won the semis? maybe they wouldnt be able to play world cups for a period of time, but they wouldve still been 2nd in that particular tournament.
they shouldve done either of those things imo: - disqualified stephano completely - giving him rank 2 and kas the win of the tournament - rescredule the game
those are the only reasonable decisions. Just cause its a barcraft tournament, you cannot make up silly rules in the middle of the tournament to have more games played out...

Also it's stupid to even say things like this to begin with. The UK didn't surrender because invading an island is pretty damn hard. the USSR almost got fully taken over, but the winter hit and we all know the history of Russian winter warfare. And of course, the US/Canada/etc. were all across an ocean. It would be pretty much impossible to force them to surrender.

It's not funny. It's funny if it was true, shit talking about bad things is what makes something funny. However going to an ugly person and being sarcastic and calling them beautiful is not funny. Same as going to a beautiful person and calling them ugly isn't funny. Both are just mean and stupid. Some enjoy these types of BS jokes, but they only promote more ignorance and stupidity. I don't know any decent people who enjoy these jokes, except those who aren't aware that they are not true. I know nice people who laugh at jokes about French surrendering, because they simply don't study history in their free time, they study their respective majors.

I agree with this conclusion. Had it been a qualification tournament, then Stephano has his own rights to forfeit what HE put at stake into the tournament(time and money). This on the other hand is not the case, and if you're invited onto a red carpet in a tournament, I feel there are some social and moral obligations that need to be put into perspective, therefore the repercussions of pulling a move like this in an invite tournament should be far greater than another tournament. I can't fault ONOG for doing this, a bit drastic but effective.

its just weird. staying up for 2 more hours would've netted him 600 extra $. Starcraft is his job, why on earth would he forfeit out of a final?
