SHOUTcraft has always been about both entertaining the audience with star-studded matches and giving back to our pros, so to deal with this issue we will be trialling a "bounty" system. Players who have no chance of advancing (which will occur if they lose have lost their first 2 BO3s) will qualify for a $50 comeback bounty, if they are able to win their final BO3. As always, nobody walks away empty handed from the SHOUTcraft Invitational and disheartened players have the chance to win back their pride and an extra cash prize if they are able to rally for a glorious last-stand.

It seems a bit unfair that a player who wins their first game and then loses the next two doesn't get anything, but a player who wins their last game gets $50. What if you play the weakest opponent in the group first? Why should you be penalised for that?

because you still have a shot at advancing in the last game

But if you get a group with MVP, Nestea, a bronze level player and a mid masters player, then the mid masters player is only ever going to win one game in the group. That player shouldn't be penalised if that isn't their last game. Obviously it won't be as extreme in the tournament, but in most tournaments you can tell at least one or two people who will make it out of the group stage.

So should Colin Smith just forward the check on to Socke, since he has been stealing your last two tournaments esports dollars? Joking, of course.

After watching HSC4 (I'm new to the scene, as it were, and didn't get to see HSC3), I have a new level of respect for the EU players. I've watched the Dreamhack and Assembly stuff, but watching the players actually cast and talk about the game has made me quite the fan. In light of that, I'd love to see Goody in this thing, as well as Naama. Both great T players (I'm Z, so no bias there) that I think are just a few tweaks away from being awesome.

One request: try to limit the mirror matches as much as you can during the first two pools. The GSL is known for this (3T and 1Z, or 1T and 3Z). While yes, TvT can be fun at times, the other two are near painful to watch. The HSC4 finals, for example. That last PvP game lasted what, 6 minutes?

Ah, thank goodness, for a minute there I was starting to think you’d put this amazing tournament on hiatus, I was a fool to loose the faith Glad to see you’re continuing to mix things up a bit and not get stuck in a comfort zone, the new format sounds great.

Also really glad to see you’re only inviting the reining champion back, inviting back first and second place winners from the previous tournaments was the only thing I wasn’t keen on. No disrespect to DDE, he was a great addition to both tournaments, but I’d really like to see some fresh meat for the grinder.

As always hoping on DeMuslim, 2011 really wasn’t the best year for him, dominating this invitational will be a great start to the year for him. Unfortunately I’m currently living in Australia so I’ll probably miss the last day, still, there’ll always be vods and a cold beer waiting :D

Players - We will once again invite US and EU players to this tournaments. Koreans will not be invited due to the impossibility of playing a tournament live across so many timezones.

Here's an idea : Don't invite US players and then get Koreans + Eu. Way better. Am i right ?

  • EU against Korea has to be played on US server due to connection. No matter how the games will go there will always be someone calling lag etc.
EU/US can alternate servers and so make it almost fair
  • Times are not good either, if you start 10 CET it would be 18KST and the tournament might go on for a looong time. It will be quite late for Koreans later on or quite early for EU in the beginning
  • Korean only Invitational is planed and to be honest, I like more Koreans playing against each others and EU/US fighting. Most times much more entertaining than seeing a EU getting defeated by a Korean

I don't like the format, no offence. The best way of removing useless games is to make it like the GSL, a mini double elim 4 man group stage. That makes it much much more exciting (elimination is always a possibility), it removes useless games, and makes it much clear who is going through.
However, new SHOUTcraft always makes me happy, and I'm sure the tournament will be great.

Hey, TB, much love, although it would be a lot better if you used GSL group format IMO. It's just a double elimination tournament with four people. It's very straightforward (two matches, winners play each other for 1st place, losers play each other, loser of winners match plays winner of losers for 2nd place).

But hey, it's your tourney and I still love you.

Looking to see bling representing mah UK homeboiz

i agree with MCDayC. the gsl/msl format is the best for sc2 in my opinion. the 50€ bounty is a nice idea, but if a player is seriously pissed he wont care about that money.
anyways your tourney + overall effort for the community is amazing! looking forward for this.
