The Cyber Sports Network (CSN) is proud to bring the SC2 community a fresh look at StarCraft II competition. The "Rundown" is a weekly eight (8) person, single elimination invitational Cup with commentary by Rance "Mouth" Costa and Garrett "Gwin" Perchel. Combining the 'Nerd analysis' of Gwin and the mouthy antics of Rance, along with sweet music beats, viewer call ins and exclusive content, the Rundown adds a needed edge to the SC2 community.
Rundown #7 - January 19, 2012
If you are a top player and have not been formally invited, but would like to help support esports and it's continued growth by giving up some of your time, please contact the Cyber Sports Network. Send a direct message to csn_JohnClark
Most of the player pictures included in this OP are provided by fb.com/zemotion and the TL Liquipedia.
The Cyber Sports Network announces the return of Rance Costa to esports. Rance has been involved in esports for almost 8 years and was DJWheats partner in crime back in the day while at the Global Gaming League. Wheat and Rance were the production and personalities behind the highly successful, Epileptic Gaming Series on GGL TV.
More about Rance Costa: Most of you, if any have heard of Rance... but I can promise you that he will entertain.
Garrett "Gwin" Prechel is a relative newcomer to the esports scene. A self proclamed "Nerd" (with a capital N) Garrett brings the RTS knowledge as a skilled player of both Brood War and Starcraft II. Also in E-Sports, Garrett acts as the principle caster for Check Six Gaming's Starcraft II Division. Outside of E-Sports, Garrett works as a freelance voice actor and singer for film and tv.
Each Rundown will feature a couple of exclusive features that are not currently seen in the SC2 Community. Viewers of the stream will have an opportunity to call into the commentators and leave a voice mail with whatever rant they choose. Callers can leave messages about the commentators, the game, players or the tournament itself without having to leave their real name or engage in a live conversation.
Cyber Sports Network has secured exclusive rights to show 'FRAG The Movie' each night following the championship. 'FRAG' is an independently produced movie by Judd Saul and covers the last 30 years of the 'esports'. FRAG will open many eyes to the beginnings of eSports and to many of the issues facing the industry.
Tournament Format:
8 Player Single Elimination - Invite Only Best of 3 for all rounds till Finals (best of 5) Random seeds $100 in cash prizing (via paypal) to the winner
rvsp has now confirmed his involvement. A huge thank you to rsvp, who along with catZ, have have actually done things to support this community and help esports grow. Thank you very much for the support.
If we can secure 16 players.. i will extend the size of the event. I did want to limit it to 16 or less and try to get as many top players as possible. CSN always will cater to the 'base' players.. but for this event.. I did want to make it more invite and competitive. Introducing a new caster to this community is hard enough and I am sure he will take his fair share of slack.. so I figured keeping the tournament small and simple with some top names would defer from it a bit

sorry.. had to. I am sure you know how hard on casters this community is. *Warning, opinion coming*..
Its pretty baffling to me how critical the community is and then to see some casters get huge praise and stream viewers.. who basically just tell you what you can already see or rant and rave nonsense on stream for 4 hours. Granted, there is something to say about casters that can keep the viewer 'entertained'... but when a caster that does what he/she does for the passion of the game and who is pretty solid of a caster, gets beat on by the community.. it's just baffling.
*end of rant*
Anyway.. if you are interested.. looks like we have a spot open. You (whoever is still interested) will need to message me privately on TL though.. so I can get you the details.
Thanks again for all of the support. I know that for many.. RANCE will be a success! Good thing about RANCE though.. he could care less what most people think of him.. He is pretty laid back guy with a fierce ability to say it like he sees it. Truly the 'no fluff' zone.
Ha.. just thinking this through.. Rance is coming back to casting.. and I hook him up with a lineup of players that could end up making him nervous as hell.
I would love to.. I did send an invite out to the 2 or 3 that had joined some of our previous tournaments.. but no response yet. I would love to really mix it up. Wonder where the EG players are hiding
I do have dde who is still interested, and one of the above players still needs to confirm their website details. So currently, dde is first in line and may get the spot if this player is not able to get me their CSN website information tomorrow!
No matter what.. it looks like a great lineup of players!
Rance is getting all of the final tweaks worked out with his new rig (thank you Gunrun for the help as always!) and the admins and staff are gearing up for it.
Tonight it will be about the players and the caster. There wont be a lot of pretty stream graphics and such.. just the game and the famous voice of Rance!
Make sure to tune in at 8 PM EST for all of the fun and craziness!
ostogiy... that guy is owning the NA ladder cant believe he wasnt in the first tournament!!! He was the guy that said 'where is my invite in like the 5th post'
really.. ok.. ill send him an invite. It would be nice to have some top players that are not well known yet in the community because they cant afford to go to the MLG events, or there are no online qualifiers for major events.. or they dont pimp themselves out with a bunch of marketing fluff (LOL.. I just gave my 2 cent flame).
If you were tuned into the broadcast of the RunDown, then you were there when viOLet finally decided to release his Army of 24 Brood Wars on Attero.. and ensues Rance's take on it. Good stuff! 1 minute long.
OK.. looking for 8 new participants for the next Rundown on Wednesday. Commentary will be by Rance (as always) and a special Guest. If you missed the first Rundown.. make sure to check out the vods on our Twitch.tv channel.
Please message me if you are a high level player and are interested in playing.
There may be one change, if CatZ is not able to make it. We will look to replace him into the same position that he is now on the bracket ... since the brackets are randomized.
If there is anyone M or GM that may be interested... please message me directly.
worst casters in the world. they don't take kindly to constructive criticism such as: -poor professionalism and acting straight out stupid -miss drops, burrow baneling mines -- anything including action -innacurate information about builds no insight using the excuse that "This is whats happening right now, not some permutation"
however, the plays are boss. especially binski.
oh and aparently rancid (one of the casters) would like to finger mekhami.
On December 15 2011 14:30 iSometric wrote: That quick thinking of baneling burrowing from Violet is so boss.
its standard from high level players. i do it all the time then terran say somethign along the lines of "zerg is such bullshit" you just do a quick swipe of the mouse and burrow 3-7 banes and then bait their army into it like you're runnign a way when you're actually bating.
Thank you for the input BroboCop.. I will pass the information on to Rance. He is more then welcome to take input that will help him. If you missed the first show.. he made it clear that he was not a SC2 guru..but loves the game and has casting skills.. so he brought on Gwin to help out with that part of it.
His voice is good and you can tell he has broadcasting experience. Although I didn't enjoy his cast last week, I'd bet that in a few months once he has more experience and learns the game better, he'll be a pretty slick caster. That is, assuming he takes improving seriously, I guess I don't know him well enough to know that.
I appreciate that.. we are already working on ways to improve it. He completely understands that his lack of SC2 experience can be an issue.. so with Gwin on board.. that should help with the technical stuff while Rance smooths over his base knowledge.
Remember.. its a new show/tournament with new casters.. (including one that has not casted SC2 at this level before)... but we will do what we can to please the masses... without sacrifices the 'personality' of this show.
For now we wanna keep it at 8 players.. so we can make sure to tweak and improve the show before we expand it. But.. your player is already invited.. tell him to respond to the message i left him using the CSN message center.
Also.. confirmed players for this Wednesday.
binski viOLet Ryze minigun
Looking for 4 more top skilled players looking to compete! Message me please if you are interested. I have already sent messages out to at least 2 players that I had promised a spot to if they were able to.. so if you want in.. you better jump at it now
umm.. x6.Terran (major) rage quits after a great first map.
To quote viOLet after the dust cleared, "It was a great first map, very close but major just messed up"
Very poor sportsmanship by Terran, but a great job by team x6 for sending another player in his place to play a show match and accept the loss.
Should we invite Terran back? That's a tough one for sure. There are plenty of other top skilled players that interested.. but viOLet thinks Terran is a solid player. hmmmm

If that was the case I would be more then willing to make a public apology, but you and I both know that is not the case.
A word of advice because you are young..
You have a huge amount of skill and if you want to make bank playing video games you need to have a personality and respect for the game and organizers that ultimately feeds your opportunity. viOLet was very impressed with your skill and you have a great opportunity to do some big things in SC2. I used to get very upset about losing and even upset at the game I played.. (in fact last night playing Quakelive was quite frustrating)... but as seen with other pro gamers lately, that sort of anger only leads to personal demise. Check Six stepped up for you, but they may not always be there for you. Take this opportunity seriously.

Not whether I believe you or not.. its whether I know for a fact that that was not the case. There is no need for us to continue this conversation on the TL forums. If you wish to play in another CSN event.. we would welcome you back as long you assured that your 'electricity' would not go out again.
The Rundown is moving to Thursdays as not to compete with Lo3. We believe this move will allow more of you the opportunity to tune in and check out the show. CSN has sent an invite out to DJWheat to make a guest appearance on the show this week! Stay tuned for full details and the player list as it becomes available.
Rundown #4 is now sending out Invites to 7 players looking to dethrone the current 3 time Champion, viOLet. The show will start with a pregame show and interviews at 7:00 PM EST. Matches will start at 7:30 PM EST and a post game show will continue after a Champion has been determined.
That FFA was a blast! Thanks to all of the players and viewers! Make sure you all check out the VOD of the event.
Congrats to the FFA winner, who's name I cant remember now.. my mind is mush! Just know that it was not viOLet or Suppy!
Great stuff guys.. make sure to tune in next week for more exclusive showing of FRAG, followed by some commentary and opinion of it.. and of course.. top notch LIVE SC2 Action!
note - viOLet is playing in the Home Story event and will not be able to defend his Rundown Title.
Looking for 2 more players!! I will be sending invites out to about 15 top players and the first 2 that respond with a YES.. will get in. If Jinro is able to make it work with his schedule..he will take up a spot first! You may also contact me via TL pm system if you are interested.
Last week Rance and Gwin teased you with the first 10 minutes of the movie, "FRAG", which showed the history of eSports in the arcade in the 80s. The next chapter featured this week on the Rundown is when the REAL fun begins! The birth of hardcore PC gaming is reviewed, and we get to meet several important characters in the history of PC gaming. John Romero, Angel Munoz and Johnathan "fatal1ty" Wendel will all be featured tonight with discussion on the history of hardcore PC gaming which birthed the first professional gamers. Followed by the snippet of the movie, Rance and Gwin will discuss the merits of the information as well as how it applies to today.
On January 06 2012 04:43 csn_JohnClark wrote: Looking for 1 more player who would be interested in battling with the guys listed in the post before this!
Let me know please!
Hey I can play tonight if you still need one more guy
Here is new list of confirmed players! If you are still interested, please message me. Its possible someone will have something come up and not be able to participate!
Less down time between each match in a bo3 set will retain more viewers. Also I feel like if you make a new thread for each rundown it will get more attention and more viewers! More people will probably watch today since viOLet is back. The team thing and # of wins is a great idea
hey. thank you very much. The suggestion for a new thread each time is great.. and its what i would prefer.. but the problem is that TL will shut it down
Also.. i totally agree with the importance of keeping the 'down time' shorter between matches.
Ill be adding the team stuff later tonight I hope. Thank you for the support.
Hey another thing, was talking to Gwin about getting it on TL Calendar. I thought it was there in the past Rundowns but looking at the calendar I guess it wasn't? If it's there it will get a ton more viewers.
And also TL won't shut multiple threads down I'm pretty sure. My managers used to make a separate thread for each clan war match we would have in ESEA, so I'm sure this would be fine.
Superiorwolf, Thank you very much for the help.. and I will surely look into creating a separate thread for each Rundown. I agree that this will go a lot further in pulling in new viewers to the event.
A great lineup and some fresh faces for this one! Will viOLet retain his title or will Ostojiy start his own run of Championships? Will dtG or Team Clash send a player to the Championships?
Make sure to tune in on Thursday.. starting at 7:00 PM EST with matches starting at 7:30 PM!
NO!! Crap! I have class all night.. but I will try to get it added later tonight. It is on the Tournament Tracker.. but I have yet to put it on the stream calender. My apologies!!
you are in sir!! I will add you to the bracket now. Look for a message on either CSN message center of TL here in a few minutes too with some more details. Thank you very much!
Anyone that can post in this thread, the correct winners of the first 4 matches and also the winner of the event will be in a pool that we randomly draw a winner from.
The winner will receive a pack of the new iheartesports Team Complexity stickers!! See announcement here: complexity team pack
If you missed it.. he was interviewed after his big win... Question: "So who do you want to crush in the next Rundown?" Answer: "I would like to beat up on some overrated players.... like Destiny"
