Things should be set this time so as not to have bumps/breaks in the stream, and we will hopefully have more support from Twitch.TV this go around as well, so the stream will be even more enjoyable. Last time we had >600 unique views, so we'd definitely like to increase that!

Winners will receive a prize, as well as have the opportunity to cast the Winner’s Finals and Grand Finals alongside a famous caster (TBA)! Subject to change, full details pending on this.

Any1 here an experimental physicist close to cracking quantum nonlocality on the human scale? if so hit me up so i can be here and in the bay area (for the HWG lan) at the same time.
edit: any1 local wondering if they should go to this event or not, heres an appeal from a previous competitor: Definitely worth it. Great atmosphere, extremely helpful administrators, lots of fun.

Dude you're awesome. If you feel likely to take that money in NorCal, take it dude. Hopefully soon we'll have a similar level of sponsorship backing to make SoCal prize pool that large. We're getting there! Who knows, by the time of the event with Sponsor input, we may be more attractive
|
We'll get there. I'll be damned if we lose to NorCal.

yea, SoCal is hella cool.

As for bay area, I think I can take it or have a top 3 showing minimum. Kind of irritated.. so many tournaments I want to play in but not enough time. I'm actually going back to dallas right after the bay area one and there is a tourny in houston same weekend or day as the bay area and socal ones. can't be everywhere @ once . glgl man and i'll definitely hit up the next one. Make sure you're careful it doesn't hit the first set of midterms for college students (seems most people areon quarter system since people are at UCs but get input from calstates, usc, harvey mudd, etc.)

Anyone else thinking of playing in the LoL tournament?

Talked to quite a few people at NASL Grand Finals who were stoked about this. Lets keep up the momentum, tell all your starcraft/esports buds, have them join up.

Yes indeed it is true Prima Btw, got to talk to QXC (now with Complexity) at NASL too, said he's most likely gonna be there this time since his Finals are gonna be done.

I should be there again, Russano 823 GM. Trying to convince two of my friends to come and spectate and probably play in that amatuer tournament, gonna train em in 4 gating and have them roll it.

Hopefully much bigger. The venue itself is like 3x bigger, with 3x the PCs. Streaming should be better, as well as adding on a new game.
I'm really hoping (and trying) man - but you can do your part to grow eSports in SoCal by spreading the word to all your friends - hyping it up for them to compete. Tweet about it, facebook it, hype it on your stream. Remember, the prize pool is gonna increase if we cap out the bracket, so you stand to benefit by inviting more people.
Got it listed on the TL Tourney Tracker too (and the details are actually correct this time), so hopefully that gets more people. Gonna work on getting it featured on the TL Calendar again now.
P.S. - If anyone knows mystik personally, I haven't been able to get ahold of him. Maybe its finals crunch time for him, but I just wanted to see if he's gonna make it out - trynna give the top 8 or so seeded players a few perks.

Spectators are definitely free, we're gonna have a couple projectors up on the walls hopefully so it'll be dope for them to come watch - besides watching the players and casters live.
Regarding your rank - honestly my recommendation is if you're plat now, one week out, you play a bunch of custom games with practice partners. But if it does so happen you end up in diamond by the day of the event, you will be bumped into the pro-am league (I won't charge you for the bump). Gotta keep the rules

Thanks man, that's exactly the kind of grassroots stuff we need to make this happen. And I'm sure the sponsors will be glad to hear that there's a good deal of word of mouth/hype on these Be sure to tweet them thanking them for sponsoring SoCal eSports cuz it's BomB!

Anyone who would like to pay with PayPal, please just shoot me a PM and I'll get you my paypal account name. I'll then send you a code for Eventbrite so that I can keep it all in one place for myself.

Current Casting Line-Up (unless they back out):
SC2: megumixbear, Crota, Longshot, Wombat, Frodan, Gwin
LoL: Diggity, Wombat
Streams SHOULD be at www.twitch.tv/socalesports, if we can get twitch to help us out a bit here. Stay tuned.

First off, question.
Are you guys not doing open registration for casting? I was hoping to do it again with my brother Ajax.
Second, the stream's channel came up as "not found."

It's just a bad link because there's a comma at the end. Just remove that and it's good. http://www.twitch.tv/socalesports

Sorry for the stream announcement spam last night guys - was working on getting a stream setup on my own computer for backup purposes, and didn't know about the "autoshare" setting.

Update - OP thread updated with links to brackets -- which ARE being updated live this time.
|
FYI - the Amateur online bracket - losers' section - got jacked up somehow, and it won't be fair to tell a bunch of losers' bracket people to reshuffle and replay matches. So, I'll only be updating the winners' bracket until the grand finals. My apologies, but it should still work out OK. The TL thread will reflect the correct brackets.
|
That all being said, the tournament turnout has been FANTASTIC, megumixbear's here chatting people up, and longshot and frodan have been doing an amazing job (many thanks to Longshot for coming thru with a more powerful computer than my own).
63 people for the Pro-Am -- even tho we're missing one entry, we still bumped the prize pool up to $1000.
27 people showed for the Amateur Bracket, which has been a lot of fun too.
If you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free!
|
LOL flipped the links for the brackets -- they are now corrected in OP.
|
Jesus it's crowded in here.

Gotta love the webcam swap to see the rest of the semifinal match. Low tech solutions for the win. Good job .

This was a great location for the tournament. Thanks for all the organizers, I know it was a lot of work. Gj guys, keep it up.

Great event guys, looking forward to the next one. Btw you guys had awesome prizes!!!!!!

I just want to give a shout out to Cable. Dude runs the event super smooth. Also the venue was so awesome. We all got to stay on our own stations the entire event. Free energy drinks for everyone too. Also the guys running it are always super helpful and answer every question you have.
Nice job! I look forward to the next one.

|
I will never forgive you for that ling/baneling switch Frosty :<
Also this tournament was amazing. So much more organized and well put together this time, probably because everyone had a computer this time in pro-am. Also did I overhear something about next month having losers bracket series be a BO3?
|
I love these events. Lots of fun to show up to and see sooooo many people.

Yeah this LAN center was super, super nice. Every computer worked perfectly well, the monitors were all the right size, and all the keyboards/mice I used worked like new, and were gaming mice (even though I just used my own generic dell stuff I'm used to )
Big thanks to those LAN owners, Cable, the other admins, and the casters. Cable and the admins are boss for all the work they do. 14 hours I was there, and they were there for longer, before and after the tourny, much respect.
|
Amazing event guys. Didn't get to win this time, but still got a raffled white-ra shirt (rockin that shit right now) and had a ton of fun. Stayed hours after I was eliminated just for the awesome environment.
Props to the organizers getting sick sponsors for us.
|
Sick venue, sick production and people.
Keep it up man, you're becoming the Socal equivalent of MLG.
|
Delighted to meet everyone! Thank you for having me! ♥
|
When/Where is the next one going to be. Has it been decided yet? I thought I heard something about the next one being in San Diego, but no one I talked to seems to know.
|
as its the holidays we've all gone on a bit of a break, but rest assured we will have more info to give out after we've all had some nice family time. make sure to follow us @socalesports on twitter and our facebook page facebook.com/socalesports

To all winners of December's Fullerton LAN (SC2 & LoL): We are sending out payment initiation emails tonight, so watch your inboxes. EventBrite's payment finally came to us, so we have the money to award you This will also include coaching information for winners of Amateur tournament. Additionally, we will completely update this OP, and be posting pictures and everything from the event.
Thanks for your patience (we've definitely had to exercise it ourselves), and congrats again on winning.
If you have any questions AFTER YOU RECEIVE THIS EMAIL, please send them directly to CableSC.

Do we know when the next one is? :o
