The eight invited players are laid out on a single elimination bracket to determine who will grab a slice of the 10 000 $ prize purse next weekend at the ASUS ROG Stars Invite tournament sponsored by NVIDIA . In addition, the schedule and prize money distribution are announced.
ASUS ROG Stars Invite kicks off the coming Friday. The tournament includes eight invited, top tier players from Europe and North America who we have announced during the last couple of weeks. We’re really happy about all the positive reactions this community has shown towards our event. Now it’s time to reveal some more details about the tournament.
Bracket
Many of you might be pleased to find IdrA and HuK on the opposite sides of the bracket which means a possible Evil Geniuses finals. You might also note that the way the races have been laid out gives a chance for mirror finals, a chance you might be happy or scared of.

Sunday specials? Oh yes, we’re extending the fun to Sunday making it a three day event! Since the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre, where the tournament is located, is open to public on Sunday too, there’s no point missing the opportunity to display some great Starcraft 2 action for the audience the whole weekend long. We will be announcing more info about the Sunday specials soon, but for now we can say that the ancient Finland vs Sweden rivalry will continue with a match between elfi and SjoW!
Stay tuned, folks.

Idra vs Sjow seems to be happening in every second tournament nowadays. Besides the PvP some very nice first round games
|
|
|
these are some good brackets... plz let white ra show some special tactics to idra. Also Huk vs Dimaga could be good
|
i am a bit nervous for idrA, since he traveled alot this month and probably did not have much time to practice, hope there will be some good games
|
Great bracket, has the map pool been released yet?
|
It has been added to the first announcement topic.

Looks good for Idra. Huk might lose to Elfi because it's PvP so we might not have the dream Huk-Idra finals.
|
Elfi is really good at PvP. I can see him taking the match against HuK.
|
hopes for ret vs idra The rivality of BW scene,The rivality of SC2 Liquid vs EG

Dimaga vs WhiteRa Finals is what i hope for ;D
|
Great matchups! Poor Sjow tho, hope he brings his a game!

Huk 3-0 Elfi Select 3-1 Dimaga IdrA 3-0 Sjow Ret 3-2 WhiteRa
Select 3-2 HuK IdrA 3-2 Ret
Select 4-2 IdrA
HuK 3-1 Ret
Sup son?

Elfi, Huk or Idra take this. Everybody else seems unlikely, especially Ret/Dimaga/Sjow.
|
Why is HuK there when he has his Code S matches the week after. I really feel he is biting off more than he can chew: flying back from Helsinki to Korea just so he can lose because he's jetlagged and hasn't trained as much as his opponents.
|
Looking so forward to this! If you're going anyone please use your psychic abilities to know who I am and say hi!

Real potential for a ZvZ finals here, but most probably a PvZ with HuK leading his first half and IdrA/Ret leading the second half.
|
Lol all of these are rematches! HuK vs Elfi (they played at assembly, where elfi eliminated huk if I remember correctly) Select vs Dimaga (epic game at blizzcon last weekend) Idra vs SjoW (played at mlg raleigh, sjow won) Ret vs White-Ra (played at blizzard eu invitational I believe)
|
|
|
Pinnaclebet bets: Huk vs Elfi. ELFI Select Dimaga. DIMAGA Idra Sjow. IDRA Ret Whitera RET
Trust me!
|
Too bad Stephano is missing, would be the perfect foreigner-only event with him.
|
Yeah, lots of good foreigners. Impossible to predict the winner of this, though I think the non-Euros are favorites since the top 3 euros are missing (Stephano, Naniwa, Thorzain).
Cheering for White-Ra, of course!
|

Anyway, HuK didn't play elfi at Assembly Winter or Summer.
|
Ret takes this I guess, White-Ra & IdrA are both player who match his playstyle. HuK will be an extremly hard nut to crack, but Ret is able to crack him. Besides a little TL succes would be nice, pretty long ago that TL took a "big" tournament.

the only non pvp/pvz possible from that group would be dimaga vs idra then? o.0

I hope Dimaga can get revenge for Blizzcon and than go on to take his second tournament on finnish ground. I think the chances are quite good, if he can go past SeleCT, because elfi is not so good against Z (hoping, that elfi beats HuK) and then he would most likely face Idra/Ret in the finals and Dimaga´s ZvZ is superior to both of them IMO.
|
All are at least a best of 5! Awesome!
|
finally a tournament which starts with BO5's. thank you
|
Didn't really thing much of Elfi as a player, but the past couple weeks have really changed my mind. The guy is an absolute monster, can't wait to see his performance. Obviously can't ignore the prowess of the other players as well, really conflicted as to who will take this.

Elfi's PvP is dominant - if any European Protoss can defeat HuK it's Elfi.

TBH Idra should just 9pool Ret 3 times, Ret clearly showed he can't hold any kind of early aggression in ZvZ, even when going 14g/14p vs 9pool of TooDMing.

Loving the BO5 format. Greater chance that the better player will move forward.

OMFG!!! IdrA wins another tourney by looking at the brackets! OR Gets second. 1. i cant say whitera beating ret whitera is awesome tho 2. Huk and elfi in pvp. its quite possible that either wins but they will then face select who will rape them!! (watch blizzcon vs dimaga and you will see what i mean) 3. IdrA beats ret, i think ret's zvz his worst matchup, idra's second best 4. IdrA vs SeleCt finals? GOGOGOGO!!!!

Either player winning would definitely not be an upset. Beating MC these days isn't an astonishing accomplishment, just somewhat impressive. I would judge pvp victories over mana or hasuobs as being as impressive as one over mc.

HuK is awesome, but Mana beat MC, too - Elfi beat Mana. I know it doesn't go that way, but I still think the match will be pretty even if you look at Elfi's games listed above. Also, MC seemed pretty lost the last few PvPs I saw of him, I think there are better PvP players out there at the moment. I'm not that certain about HuK's PvP, he seems a bit wonky there in my opinion.

I still can't believe that after more than a year in circulation, tournaments still can't find a 2-player map better than Xel Naga.

All bo5 or more. Perfect.

Only thing I don't like is the inclusion of Xel'Naga Caverns.
But it does have less of an impact since its a BO5.
This should be pretty awesome.
Too bad the times are awful for us in NA. Only matches I'll realistically be able to watch are idra vs. sjow, white-ra vs. ret and the finals
EDIT: spelling/grammar
|
I like the fact that Ro8 are Bo5 rather than Bo3! I hope we see a PvP finals! (HuK vs White-Ra), I like the matches overall, DIMAGA vs SeleCT should be amazing!
|
Nice brackets. And I love how it starts at Bo5, best thing ever.
And it even starts at a good time so I can watch it. Can't wait!
|
I like that it's single elimination. That double elimination system which everyone has been doing lately is for little girls and it's pretty stupid. This is how a tournament for real men should be played out, and what better man to win a manly tournament than White-Ra?

Bo5 the whole way through and Bo7 finals - that's an awesome way to do the format considering the amount of players.

Afaik the tournament is run by Peliliiga, the same company that hosts the Assembly pro gaming competitions. My TF2 team won money from 4 of their events and they've always paid it either with cash at the event or a few days after with bank transfer. So worry not.

I really enjoy these "small" (like 8-16 players) invitationals. Allways good/entertaining players, and you get to see all the games, thus gaining more of a "feel" for the tournaments as a whole imo! Will tune in for sure.

first, do you know - for a fact - that stephano was not invited or declined? (same for probably many korean pros).
An 8 player tournament is so small that several high profile players would not be able to attend (either because they were unable or didn't receive invites). There will always be a debate over who's best / top 3 / 8 / 10 etc. I agree that with his recent success it would be great to see stephano in more tournaments, however, I'm super excited for the potential of the players attending!

In what way is that a bad thing? An invitational is just what it sounds like. The organizers can invite whoever they want. And if they want to attract the biggest amount of viewers for their sponsors, why wouldnt they pick the players with the biggest fan clubs?

They just check who has the biggest fanclub and "let's go" ! Invitations were made, before Stephano had any major wins yet

Seems like we will have EG finals. I think only HuK, elfi, Select and Dimaga can beat Idra and they are on the other side of the bracket. White-ra could but I do not see him beating two zergs in a row.

Idra should reach the finals I think. He has great records against sjow, ret and white-ra. Expect Huk or Select to wait for him.

Hnnggggg such great games to be played. REALLY looking forward to watching DIMAGA vs SeleCT and White-Ra vs Ret.

As long as the rounds are bo5 or higher I think the single elimination system is much more exciting. It's when you have bo1 or bo3s where I feel double elimination is a better choice. Personally I prefer group play into single elimination bracket for larger tournaments. (If the group play rules are sane)

Single elimination and Bo5? Fuck yeah! Bo5 is so much better than Bo3 in my opinion.
The Final will be Huk vs Idra, Huk takes it 4-2.

I think people are REALLY underestimating Sjow. Idra has been really showing well lately but don't forget that Sjow has been posting results in other places as well. Also, Sjow beat Idra in their last encounter. I ultimately think that Idra can eek out the win but I expect it to be at least 3-1 or 3-2 and not a cakewalk 3-0 like most people are saying.

Definitely a Huk vs Idra final!
Can't wait

Huk/Select vs Idra in finals....Not too many top-tier players here.

Elfi surely has his work cut out for him, but his pvp is one of the best in europe.

Looks like a great event, and the times work well for a late night of drinking and watching SC2 in Australia.

What's going on with this tourney? They need more/better coverage because I am having a hard time finding any info on it.
Ex. Wtf wouldn't they update their bracket in the OP?

Ex. Wtf wouldn't they update their bracket in the OP? Not only is it over but they had just about the best coverage possible as they were featured on TL. For the last month there has been a ticker on TL indicating when the event starts.
Sir, you fail hardcore... or I do... because I got trolled?
