Also 3 of the i7 will probably go to the top 3 Code S. To be confirmed though xD.

Look forward to seeing everyone there!

what stops players from faking gold?? I want to enter but am quiet wary about this.....
and if u won first place in lets say.. diamond/platinum league, do you just get the 60% cash pool and nothing else? how is the other prizes distributed?

Honesty for the most part, stops people from smurfing. The Vancouver scene is fairly active anyways, so you know roughly where all the regulars are. For the most part, there aren't that many borderline masters players anyways. From what I could tell, at the last few Vancouver tournaments I've been to, almost every single person in the Code S division would've won code A dropping one game at the most.
The other non-cash prizes are most likely going to favour code S in terms of distribution. Personally, I just go to have fun, I realistically don't stand a chance of beating out the Vancouver GM's for a prize.
|
Wish I could go but I've been waiting 6 years for Skyrim

Like Amui said, we are an active community and we know most of the regulars that come to the events. We also check the ranks before and after the games.
The Code A and Code B players all get their distribution of cash prize, and there might be something like an intel i7 mixed in for the winners of both codes. Nothing is confirmed yet though.

I think there are lots of terms for this, the one I like to use is "Sandbagging." You are correct that there is no way of us stopping players from doing this but this is why the prize is distributed the way it is. CODE S we can monitor because that's the best of the best and this is why we always reward them with greater prizes then CODE B and A.
Furthermore players caught Sandbagging do get frowned upon and most likely will not be allowed for future events. We have a very good community here so this is not an issue we have encountered.

Corsair, Razer, G.Skill and Dillion Wong (DJ) from Eminence have joined our list of sponsors for this event.

Why must there be so many events right after I leave for university in Waterloo? T__T

Is there going to be live casting at the event itself? I'm from Surrey, wouldn't mind taking transit for an hour just to support the scene.

There will be live casting, we may have EdwardStarcraft come up and cast on Sunday as well.

is there a minimum number of games that must be played on a participants account?
i have a friend who wants to join, but he always does 2v2 or 3v3 but no 1v1. He's probably silver or gold 1v1 cuz he almost never plays (and i 1v1 one him several times) but wants to join the tournament

In the near future, players will have an option of pre-registering which will give them a discount on the registration fee.

Every tournament has a different type of format, the invitationals was intentionally formatted in such a way to last that long. It actually went faster than expect. To answer your question on how long this tournament will last depends on many factors, do all series go to Bo3, do players take mini breaks in between games and if the finals go to Grand Finals. In theory it should finish at around 7-8pm. Hope that helps answer you question. Thanks for supporting eSports in the west coast.

This was totally awesome :D I'm DDxCyclone that got knocked to the loser's bracket from a semi-finalist (I think...?) and then won 3 bo1s, only to get knocked out by the dude that would take out the dude that beat me before Nerves are an issue for me, but this was totally awesome and I would totally love to join again.
The free mousepads/keychain/pens/pizza made my $20 well spent, as well as being casted on the big screen
|
free... mousepads!?!?!?!?
i missed them somehow...
Good tournament guys!! It was fun to play, spectate, and meet all of you! I even got casted, which was fun! (But I didn't show my full skills in the cast ... )

Good times! i'll definitely show up for the next one. If i had to suggest something it would be to setup more of a central viewing space since the webcam for the stream didnt really capture all of the spectators... maybe more chairs and more room infront of the main viewing tv?

Guy outside while you were smoking, that was me. It was a huge pleasure having you guys come out, we welcome and invite you guys to come to all of our future events. You KawaiiRice, Ranged and Edward were huge highlights for me. Such friendly people and let's face it, you Seattle guys are damn good. You made our players here in Vancouver work for their prizes.

Absolutely amazing event. I got knocked out fairly early, but so did a lot of the other midtier masters players =/. Considering though that by second round, everybody either played a current/former GM or else was one of them I'm pretty happy with how I did. It's actually amazing being able to stand behind a GM for a few minutes and just learn from watching FP what they see, and how their reacting, walking 10seconds and seeing how careful and meticulous a tank push is from the other end.

The cG events keep getting better and better. I thought #4 was the best up to date, then you guys topped that yesterday. I really enjoyed every aspect of the tournament. I didn't expect much coming into the tournament considering the caliber of players that competed (Kawaiirice, Ranged, Sterling, Lobber, tQtyrant, tQWannabe, Firezerg, RoyalFlush, ValiditySAGA, vVvHasuu, 4k.Warden, FXOptikzero, and SCZaizai). Having 13+ GMs (I counted 14 including myself, but could be missing someone) in one local tournament is pretty stacked.
Huge congratulations to FXOptikzero for winning the tournament. You deserve it! Thank you cyber gaming for hosting the tournament!
Everyone should show some love to Memory Express for supporting the ESPORTS scene in Vancouver. They did fantastic job with accommodating the spectators. They also have a sick new website up now. :D

I would like to thank Cybergaming, Memory Express and sponsors for holding yet another amazing sc2 tournament!

Thank you Warden for coming to almost all of our Starcraft 2 Events. It has been an honor serving you at these events and a huge pleasure being able to witness your progress throughout this year. You are getting closer and closer to your first championship. Congratulations on second place and best of luck in the near future.

On behalf of Cyber Gaming it was a pleasure hosting this event with you guys. With such an amazing community and the support of top tier players like yourself it motivates us to host bigger and better events.
On a more personal note when I heard you were taking a break from SC2 to focus more on school I was deeply saddened to know we loss such a high caliber player. When I saw you signed up and started posting on facebook your plans of coming back and participating I was not sure what to expect but it didn't matter, I was in joy you were attending. To see you come back after months of no practice and win 3rd place shows why you are a legend here in Vancouver. What also impresses me about you is how you help the people that supports ESports here. Memory Express has done so much in the past year and having you mention them whenever you can has been priceless.
Thank you so much for everything, Cyber Gaming owes our success to players like yourself and is honored to continue to serve you guys and any near future Starcraft 2 events.

So when's the next tournament in Vancouver (not necessarily CG tournament, just any.)
|
Most likely mid-late January
|
Official Thank you:
We are currently wrapping up Memory Express & Cyber Gaming Tournament #5. CG#5 was another big success due to the communities feedback and suggestions over the course of the year. With our most recent production we hope our tournaments have improved and gone up in value for all of the participants, spectators and volunteers.
First I would like to thank our Casters Cedric, Richard, Special Guest from Seattle Edward Starcraft and all our other casters. It is you guys who breathe life into the venue with your voices and for that we thank you. Thank you Peter Garratt for helping out with controlling the In-Game camera for our casters especially during CODE A and B's Tournament.
Thanks to all of you who came out on Friday to help us test the network and computers. If anyone is interested those computers are now on sale for $1199 at Memory Express.
Thank you to all the Volunteers, Memory Express staff, Asus reps and Antec reps for bringing out free swag to provide to the viewers and players, the starcraft 2 community again, all participates and spectators, friends and families. Special Thanks to Seattle players FNATICMSI.Kawaiirice, Ranged, Sterling, and EdwardStarcraft for making the trip up to Vancouver. We all hope you consider attending our future events.
Huge congratulations to our CODE S winners, FXOptikzero our champion, FourKWarden for second place, Stalife for third, KawaiiRice for fourth, vVvHasuu, and Ranged to round off our top 6. Congratulations to CODE A and B winners and all our raffle draw winners, enjoy the prizes.
Future is bright for Cyber Gaming's Starcraft 2 Team. We had a strong showing, especially FireZerg, Kayce and Raigeki for finishing in the top 16.
Another special thanks to James "CanucksJC" Choi for all of his hard work and dedication running and promoting the crap out of the tournament, Cyber Gaming and Memory Express. When you see the UBC Starcraft Club President make sure you shake this mans hand because the chances are you heard about this amazing tournament from him some way or another.
Big thanks goes to Kevin "Fxk" Doan my older brother for dealing with all the business end of things, getting us sponsors, food, doing the day to day things behind the scenes that no one gets to see and give him credit for. Example, getting us DJ Dillion from Eminence to play us beats in between matches, his mixes are so sick!
Shogun Gamer for their coverage of the tournament. These guys make some nerd balling videos and I cannot wait to see what they are editing together this time.
With every good there is always some bad. Sand Bagging issues in CODE A and B was a small set back for our tournament and we are seeing a flaw with our system. Next tournament for CODE A and B we are going to enforce a few rules to lessen the possiblity and temptation of players sandbagging. Also we will be lowering the value of the prizes for CODE A and B. We wanted to spoil CODE A and B for this tournament to see what would happen and as predicted issues arised. The best players should be rewarded the best prizes therefore CODE S should be getting spoiled with high value prizes. So look for this change at our next tournament.
Despite this small set back the tournament was amazing to host and it was a pleasure serving you all. I know I am missing a ton more people to thank and I am deeply sorry if I have missed anyone who deserved a thank you and please do not take it personally. Without everyones support this would not have been possible so thank you.
Dallas "cGsolid" Doan
