Any recommendations which matches/sets of the pool play are good?

Day 1 - TLO vs Boxer were probably the most exciting games of the weekend IMO. Those guys really know how to push each others' buttons and there really (surprised?) weren't any standard games.

Day 2 - Huk vs Hero had some pretty epic moments too, like, Huk had the opportunity to push a draw as they both only had a pylon left but instead, in true Huk fashion he went for it and we ended up having a (very few) stalker/zealot/sentry/probe micro battle, in which Hero ended up downing Huk's last pylon with ONE probe.

What a fantastic weekend.

I hope MLG rethink this extended series crap they got. I mean Boxer should have knocked idra out 3-2, why should Idra win due to a victory in groupstages?

look at fotball, if Sweden beat Argentina in groupstage and then face them in semifinal, Sweden wont start the game with like 1 or 2 goals up. Its ridicilous.

Just have a openbracket, put 1 player in each group, then play the groups and then have a standard playoffs. Now loser bracket were people can get second chances etc. If you lose you lose and if you play someone you met in groupstage, you have to beat him again on equal terms.

You never ever see loserbracket and extended series in any sport so why for MLG?

You know that it means Idra would have beat MC in 1 of the past MLG's ?
He was 2-0 and then lost 2-4 ?

Look at the big picture, not just how to screw idra up...that time it would've been good for Idra (bad for MC), this time....Idra was lucky (boxer was screwed).

It that was the case then yes, Idra should have won over MC. But did not idra lose 0-4 in that championship bracket. Then he still would have lost if they did not have extended series. MC just had to win 4 games instead of 2.

I stand by my point that extended series is just wrong. No matter who it happens to. If Idra would have gone 2-0 up agains MC and then lost 4 strait games then thats wrong and idra should have won.

what the hell are you guys even talking about? the rules made MC's job more difficult that time and he still beat idra. you're the 2nd guy who's saying idra should have won a series that he got 4-0'd in. that's what happens to your brain when you become an idra fan?

It is weird to see Huk win this because there are a lot of europeans he can't beat. Conrgats anyhow

he didn't meet with stephano, thorzain/nerchio/naniwa/mana/morrow didn't come to the event... if the winner is not outclassing everyone greatly there is a lot of luck involved at every tournament

I'm pretty sure that huk at his best can beat each and everyone of the players you list above, just because he has lost to them in the past doesn't mean he can never beat them.

It's funny you should bring up football as an example because the UEFA Champions League uses a very similar two-legged tie for their tournament.

(How could Boxer have knocked IdrA out 3-2 when he was down 3-0 anyway? If Boxer had won before game 7 he would have done so at an overall tie in games won at bet and an overall loosing record at worst.)

When will some of the players who did very poorly be taken out of pool play? I can think of two NA Protosses that absolutely do not deserve a free chance to compete with some of these high echelons of players

that sentence is basically true for every good sc2 player. huk is good, but he is 0-4 vs stephano, 2-4 vs thorzain, 0-2 vs nerchio- he would definitely be the underdog if he played against those.

he avoided Bomber and Polt, the monster tvpers, there weren't even any monster zvpers, and he pvped a lot which is his best match up iirc. he deserves the win, but let's not get carried away.

Wow that post does not sound bitter at all, not withstanding that this is his 3 third major tournament win recently on top of his code S status he was always a top contender among the foreigners to take the win. It would be odd for those europeans to win seeing as they are not up to huks caliber except maybe naniwa and thorzain.

Nice to see huk getting back into form though, when you are not on a different continent every week it can do wonders for your game xp. Also so happy to idra doing well, needs to be in top shape so he can take back that code S spot he gave up all those sessions ago in the GSL.

However that doesn't really apply to this as in the Champions league you play the team in the first leg, then you play them directly after you have already played them. As apposed to MLG's double elim.
Life has won two GSLs and a Blizzard Cup. NOT three GSLs.

It's not that the banelings were a mistake. That was fine. It was the fact that Idra decided to attack when he should have just turtled to 200/200 after MC refused to attack in his only window of opportunity.

Idra basically gave him the game.

Missed the last couple of matches due to timezones, did MC play any notably worse than the rest of the tourney since he already had secured the code s spot?

He only played 2 more games after getting code S (Grand Finals vs Huk). Lost the first one due to 4gate vs 4gate micro (Huk managed to squeeze in an extra unit somehow and also picked off one of MC's pylons, supply blocking him) and the second game was just a build order loss.. The beauty (sarcasm) of extended series guaranteed that the games ended there.
