Looks sick. Definitely gonna try and be there. Is it an all night event? or is it only on sat? The forums make it sound like it goes overnight the info only says 2 pm to 1 am.

How is that low at all? $40 for winning some small lan tournament is great....

yeah i think its a tad bit low; but they provide food and a lot of other game tournys.

if the prize pool could be a tiny bit higher and make it a bo3 series instead of bo1 tourny, would be awesome.

So cool to see these happen (because of SC2) but the tournament prizes are pretty damn weak lol.

Thank you to whomever posted this.

I am Cybrosis and am one of the founders/organizers for this event, and I appreciate the feedback here. We are always looking to improve our events and cater to more players so any feedback is invaluable.

We started off as a small LAN party hosted in homes, funded entirely by our members out-of-pocket. We have since graduated to an actual venue with legitimate tournaments with cash prizes, however we are still run out-of-pocket as a labor of love. The cost for admission only covers the cost of the venue; things like food, power, and internet are still covered by a small group using their own funds. Our previous tournaments have only had retail games and other goodies as prizes; this will be our first event with a cash prize (as small as it is). The Starcraft 2 tournament will be held monthly, and we would like to increase the prize pool over $100 by the end of the year, possibly drawing in some more talent.

Anyway, thanks again for posting this, and hope to see some of you there!!

Thanks, LAKERs for posting this (and updating it when I changed our thread the other day).
And that's awesome to hear that you'll be there, ThisIsJimmy. It was on my agenda to try convincing you to go :p

I'm Novak, part of the LanDiego staff. This event is coming up on Saturday.

Our prize pool is a bit small, undoubtedly, but this is more than just a tournament, and it's also more than just Starcraft. Your $10 entry fee will get you into all 3 tourneys if you'd like, and plenty of food and drinks all night. We've got consoles with a bunch of games to play as well.
And as Cybrosis mentioned, we're absolutely looking to bump up the prize pool, but that'll come as the crowd grows.

SDSU does pretty well at LanDiego events, so if there's anyone with any school rivalries, there's your chance to fight it out.

I just got word earlier today that we should be having some PCs setup with DOTA2 on them in case people are interested in checking that out as well.

If you have any questions, I'll be checking this thread (now that I know it exists) fairly regularly, or feel free to ask on our forums, or on the r/sandiego thread.

We've had a bit over 50 people for the last 2 events. This time around we're not competing with halloween parties and we've been spreading the word a bit more so we should have a good number more.
For SC2 specifically I think we had 16 people playing the tourney last time. The level of competition really runs the gamut. We've only had one GM show up so far (CuHz), if ThisIsJimmy can make it out, then we'd have a second. But we also have a couple of SDSU players who are in masters, and then people in every division down. I'm only gold league and I'll be playing, and we have some other staff who are silver or bronze who I hope will be playing too. It's free to enter the tourneys (assuming you buy the ticket to get in) so we don't want anyone to be discouraged from trying.

But I would say not to worry about losing 1 match and being out. It is a LAN after all, not just a tourney. There's plenty to do even if you get knocked out of the bracket.

And prize pool will go up as the crowd grows.

I dunno how long the sc2 turny usually takes but I find that bo3 turns with a "loser bracket" aswell makes it alot more fun that way its not 1 and done also. anyway the event sounds fun, ill try to make the next one, im in masters aswell.. :-)
