In my nations soccer league when a qualifying spot for a cup winner or league placement are both taken by the same team, the qualifying spot is awarded for winning the cup and the league placement is moved a spot down. While this is not entirely similar, I do feel it makes the more sense. I mean why should a nation be punished for having stronger players?
edit: A play-off wouldn't be such a bad idea either.

I would prefer winner of NASL over 2nd place WCG. That would probably be Sen/Idra/Puma (or hero who wouldn't get it obviously). Any of those 3 would be quite welcome.

In GSL commercial from GSL finals. They probably took MVP as the blizzcon champ so they took 2nd 3rd and 4th GSL rankings instead of 1st 2nd 3rd.
