With the possible exception of Softball, every player in division 3 is top quality and anyone could win that division.

Oh well, perhaps it will sort itself out next season. By the third season, weaker links would have certainly have filtered out if their maintained a consistent format or held qualifiers, but with a reset there will likely be some left over for the third season.

He's supposedly on a similar level to Sen.

There's a timecrunch when it comes to this. Especially with the booking of the venue for the live finals, as well as not having it run into Christmas. Advertising, preparing, making the production for the qualifiers as well as for those who qualified, casting etc etc. I'm not sure you could run enough qualifiers to replace 14 people.

Doesn't take much longer than it took them to make the decision, they could have extended the previous qualifier and taken the top finishers from there and then held another one to take the top 8 from there to round out 14 players. There are currently players who were selected who were out-done in qualifiers by others and I'm not a fan of completely invite based tournaments anyways, particularly ones that are this large. This was a gripe I had with the first season but didn't really think it was a huge deal because it would sort itself out and filter players as the qualifiers were held. I have no issue with invites for a small number of players who are generally heads and shoulders above the competition or otherwise stand out, the IPL invited a small number of players for the IPL 3 and while generally I'm more for pure qualifier based tournaments, having a mixed format is fine as long as the invites are small and clearly exceptional. The problem with pure invite is that I can name players that could easily compare with more than half the players on the roster who weren't invited. A similar issue arises with MLG's format which is something that isn't problematic when they use it for Halo. In Halo, the top teams are pretty far out from others, but in SC2 there are a number of players who are forced through the open bracket who could give the pool players a run for their money, particularly some of the weaker pool players so the cushion is too excessive. In Starcraft, there are a lot more comparable players so invitations can often leave out numerous players who could have competed. It's really unfortunate and therefor not a format I like watching simply because knowing that some players may have been unfairly slighted despite their performance ruins the experience a bit.
