20$ is kinda expensive tbh if you look at the big picture thats 80$ to try to qualify in all 4 qualifier it would be less painful if the entry fee was something like 15$ so 60$ less painful T_T

I don't think that has anything to do with it. I'm pretty sure that IPL would love more people to enter so they could collect more money to offset their expenses.

I think they realize it. They saw NASL charge 10$, and saw the effect that had, so they upped the ante and ran twice as many qualifiers.

Yes but then you would have a huge bracket, like the one Playhem tourney for $1000 and that had to get delayed because so many people signed up and the site could not handle making the brackets.

Well, winning the qualifiers is a guaranteed $1000 and a expense-paid trip to Atlantic City. That in it self I think is worth it, you only have to win 6-7 games (kinda like an MLG open bracket or something).

Then, you know, you also have a shot at doing better than last place.

Is this supposed to be the thread for the Morrow/Kuma games? I'm a little confused if I even posted in the right thread D:
The #1 qualifier thread had a decent amount of game responses, but this has nothing so far

I really don't understand why IPL doesn't get more hype in TL. Does it get more hype in other sites or maybe IRL?

I'm hoping for more awesome players through the qualifiers! Oh and maybe HUK through invite! :-)

IPL is in too many places all over the forum. You have like 3 team threads. 2 ipl 3 threads. Qualifier threads are posted way too late. They just need to coordinate their plan of attack some. = /

Lack of information. Like I see qualifiers are on, but who's playing? No idea. So I watch White-Ra stream.

If you click the the link in the "upcoming event" section, it will usually tell you who is playing.

Like in 3 hours it will be:
LiquidJinro vs sixjaxViBE
LiquidTyler vs RGNSlush
Russano vs ST_Ace

Do people really not know that about clicking the links for events? I mean, I see you have 3000+ posts so you have obviously quite some time on TL... and if you don't know that, then what about the people who aren't even registered? o_0

It's just kind of disconnected given most people know the results and the games are being (broad)cast closer to the second qualifier than they are to when they were played.

Hell this conversation is happening in the qualifier 2 thread when the games mentioned above are from qualifier 1, as is the commentary being discussed from earlier, primarily because there's a wide spread of threads and people aren't sure how close games being played tie to games being broadcast

I doubt this weekend gets too many sign ups given MLG is on, but it's prime time for some lesser players + a couple more koreans to try and have a bash though.

Anyway, much <3 to the IPL, it's a seriously quality product, but it would benefit from maintaining a more centralised thread structure in the tournament forum for these smaller qualifier events etc imo.

This qualifier doesn't take place this weekend. It's next weekend (Sep. 3rd). So people still have plenty of time to sign up and it's not going to conflict with MLG at all.

Very impressive play by Jinro on the second game against Vibe (45mn on Shakuras) ! Vibe's nydus escape was fun as well. Game 3 starting now.

Completely agree with you, the information for the different IPL games is always so awful that it makes me wonder how they can even put out prize money on this crap. I mean you can never easily find out who is playing who, past results, what they are actually doing on the stream and the casters are usually terrible as well. Then again considering it's IGN behind it i'm not the least bit surprised, anyone who has spent more than 5 minutes at IGN.com knows that I'm talking about

^ That's harsh and not very true. They just need to copy the GSL LR thread style for their LR threads and de-clutter their opening posts to the pertinent information.

It is way too all over the place right now though for sure.

Perhaps they should start a thread GSL style with the people playing.. perhaps not.. But I am quite sure a lot of people will watch their live event.

These are also just qualifiers, so they might not be trying too hard to hype things up.

I mean really, how much do qualifiers need to be hyped?

They should broadcast the qualifiers live - it's just not interesting watching games which a) you know the results to and b) don't matter since you know both of the people in them aren't going to qualify. Even if you didn't know the results, there's no perspective of why the games matter - are they the semifinal or a round 1 match? What is at stake? Who else is doing well, and who will the winner have to play next? There's less depth to the games they show than a showmatch since even in a showmatch someone wins and gets some money. Might as well be casting random ladder games between two players for what it's worth.

I'm pretty sure not everyone knows these results and if you want live qualifiers then you need the people there at the office. That's not going to happen in any tournament other than GSL so you should stop hoping.

Neither of these pages have any information on what matches I will be seeing on the stream today. Also, are these matches from the bracket that we already have the results on?

EDIT: They are and now I just spoiled myself :-/

Can't wait for the IPL 3 Live Event.

I loved watching IPL and IPL2, but keeping up with the brackets and whatnot in the formats you release them is kinda tough. I think my lack of dedication comes from the fact that it's hard to hype a match that's already been played. Just my two cents.

Probably cause they do 0 live-stuff. Replays just got a sour taste to it, and specially when they broadcast some events several weeks afterwards. Also, their to casters (since im mindblocking HD) PainUser & CatsPajamas has faaar too many weak performances, even if PU is picking up relatively fast in good commentating.
That's my 5c, shared by most of my friends following the sc2-scene.

Not just replays, but casting months after the games were played (Broadcasted mid July - Mid August, and early games featured Drewbie/Destiny still on Root, which happened early June). They also had issues such as using the Old Shakuras, and the updated version came out back in March(!!).

Just need MC and Nestea invited now... and MVP to try and qualify in qualifier 3.

They've changed the format to reduce lag a little bit. All you've got to do is click the word "Players" to see the sign-ups! KiWiKaKi, MarineKing, Check, and other notable players are already on there!

Oh I'm a noob, I didn't bother to check if those text were clickable.

1 thing I hope they change in the future is their bracket lay-out. You can't full screen the bracket layout, so it's very hard to read it all nicely in such a small bracket box.

Well, 7 people signed up in just the past few hours. The first qualifier was announced on a Thursday I think, just 2-3 days before teh event and it still managed about ~65 people. I'd expect a similar number or slightly higher for this one.

Prolly more like he hasn't played a lot on the US server and the system puts him up as "random". Or he just forgot to pick his race while signing up. There's no doubt he's going to play as Terran

More like where are all the Europeans? They must be scared to go up against the few Koreans that signed up..? So far the only top Europeans that have signed up are Socke, Demuslim and Sarens. Pretty weak showing for the self-proclaimend second best SC2 server -_- They'll sign up for all these hundred dollar cups, but won't sign up for a one-hundred-thousand dollar main event with paid travel and garaunteed thousand dollar prize money. I don't get it. It'd be nice if they put their money where their mouth is, but I guess they don't think they can win the qualifier and don't want to want to waste 20 bucks. Even if that's the case, shouldn't their teams be paying the entry fees? I'm just really confused...

I find it very strange that so few have signed up. What, the pro teams can't afford $20? There is no one on the verge on being on a pro level that wants to show off and might get "lucky"? Playing the Koreans is a win-win scenario - if you lose, everyone is like "yeah, that's expected" and if you win you're suddenly considered among the best in the world.

Pro teams that don't have people participating should really reconsider, it's embarrassing.

If you feel that you are a legitimate professional player, you should feel confident in your ability to beat some of the best players in the world. This represents a chance for online exclusive players to earn an all expenses paid trip to Atlantic City to compete on LAN and pocket $1000 in the meantime.

Moreover, this represents a much better chance to beat Korean players while they play at 3 AM local time on significant delay, as opposed to being well rested and having no delay in a LAN tournament where most are familiar with this setting (GSL / GSTL) and you may not be.

I would say that even $80 for 4 chances at instant championship bracket and $1000 is a great deal.

11:00 PDT is 20:00 CET

Even OP suggest that this turney might take a long time to finish. My guess is that most of EU players are afraid of late hours rather than Koreans.

maybe if the tours had double elim. single elim is pretty harsh almost as harsh as open bracket in MLG.

It's quite obvious there's 10% of the players who sign up for these have a legit shots/guaranteed shot at qualifying/finishing top2.

The rest of the players are doing it for exposure/get their name out there and beat other good players. There's not enough good players signed up right now. Some might think it's a good opportunity to sign up because it gives you a better chance at qualifying but 20$ for 6 koreans is not worth it in my opinion.

I understand you guys are trying to rack up some money to compensate for the awesome prize pool you guys are offering for the the 2 winners but seriously 15$ per tour 60$total I feel there would be a lot more players trying out for it and you guys would end up making more money.

There's what, 4 days Till the tournament 3 if you don't count today, tell me honestly if you think 23 registered player is a successful tournament/way to have it

It shouldn't matter if it's bad times for euros because the koreans have to play at 3am. Doesn't get any worse than that.

i think that quite are few europe player are considering to travel to the live event. 16 slots are available.

chances are rather low for them to win an open qualifier stacked with high profile koreans when it can assumed that not many koreans will show up at the live qualifier.

I guess most of the players will register last minute and considering the first qualifier had 50+ players registered while most of the europeans were attending gamescom for promotion or playing IEM there will be enough europeans

There's no harm in spending $20 to try to qualify online and if they fail they can still fly over.

Well you can think about it this way. If you take a top 2 spot in this you win 1,000 dollars plus a trip to Atlantic City. Also the chance to win even more money. So if you can even just take a top 2 spot it's worth 20 dollars. Your going to have to start playing Koreans, as they are participating in every major foreigner tournament.

You're assuming not many Koreans will show up, but nobody actually knows. Plus, the bracket is going to be much larger at the live event (@256 players vs. 64 players in Qualifer 1) and you will have to pay your own travel, lodging and food expenses and not be guaranteed any prize money.

It's not like there's a hundred Koreans in each qualifier either. A handful of Koreans are willing to spend 20 bucks to try to win these benefits (and they have to deal with worse hours than any other region), but somehow even less Europeans are willing to try. Seems to me this would indicate that Koreans would also be more willing to travel to the open tourney. 20 bucks and adjusting your sleep schedule for 1 or 2 days does not seem like it should be a big deal for a pro gamer. Honestly, this sort of thing should be expected of them when a huge international tourney rolls around and it's why I'm completely baffled that the Euro pro teams like Mouz, Empire, Dignitas, etc. aren't jumping all over this.

I feel like those people on the fence about joining due to the lack of Koreans should look at the popularity some players got for upsetting big names. This is a chance to get your name out there.

Is $20 really that big of a deal for pro NA/EU players, or is there some scheduling conflict with MLG, NASL, Dreamhack or another tournament that is not obvious?

If the former, well, it seems that just as a huge amount of money is being pumped into NA/EU eSports, the pro-scene in NA/EU is dying. It can't look good to the sponsors to run a 1000 players qualifiers and have only ~50 people show up - that doesn't demonstrate a lot of interest from the pro-gamers, and without the pro-gamers, where's the scene?

I mean, I understand that $20 might be a little too much for amateurs. But the NA/EU teams should have no issues sponsoring their players for $20.

Oh, the MVP team also signed up! However only Tails, Genius and Dongraegu.
Guess they also only signed those up who think they have a decent shot at the prize.

edit:

I don't know, but I guess they judge it to be money thrown out of the window,
because they think that with that lineup there is no way their players would manage to finish top 2.

DongRaeGu, Tails, and Genius in. This qualifier is getting more and more stacked. I wonder how many players would start having second thoughts by the time the player list is done.

I'm guessing they would have had a much better turn-out if they would have done regional qualifiers. It would have fixed pretty much every issue that are causing people to not sign up, including the time when it is played, the server lag, and the Korean fear-factor. It would also give a better all-around international line-up instead of [most likely] having Koreans take all the online qualifier spots.

It really says a lot about the foreign "scene" that only 24 persons trust their abilities enough to go through a qualifier. 20 dollars in exchange of a shot of 1000, + plane tickets + hotel accommodations + a spot in a huge tournament doesn't look like a bad deal. I hope all the spots will be taken by hard-working koreans, and i hope they will show just how much better they are than the so-called "foreign pros"

It's pretty obvious why there's not many NA or EU players, with the caliber of Koreans joining the only people that have a shot are the very best the foreigners have to offer. Anything else won't even be competitive, so its 20 bucks down the drain.

And as a manager i would tell everyone of my players to participate at least....

Yup. Sometimes you may get a favourable bracket where the best koreans eliminate each other.

It's definitely worth the $20 for some top foreigners to compete. Should be seeing a few more!

This might actually be the best week to try to qualify. The code a qualifiers are this weekend, so all the code b players from korea will most likely be doing that.

hope more EU and NA players will sign up today and tomorrow, would hate it if the Koreans get the slots without much more of a fight.

Makes sense.

Considering that slayers_sleep qualified and is guaranteed $1000. Their team is already ahead in terms of investing in these qualifiers.

Also the rumor-inducing slayerspuzzle is on the list but I'll wait until we hear an announcement before making any comments about that.

Yup and BoxeR is invited too. I imagine that any teams with qualified or invited players will be more likely to also send players to compete in the open bracket.

I want Cella to win a spot so he can go to America and have burgers and sing for his fans live. Plus can you just imagine the awesomeness that would be Cella and White-ra competing in the same tournament, no end to special tactics and adorably mangled English. ^-^

The roster so far is like 70% Korean haha. Why waste $20? I think this might backfire on IGN? Maybe the foreigners will show up at the open bracket at the venue since I wouldn't expect many Koreans to attempt that. Even if they think they can't place high, it's still a nice $1000 minimum prize? Better than MLG at least.

Why waste $20?

I understand this thinking. However, I think any "pro" who uses this kind of thinking is basically just saying that they have no confidence in their abilities and admit defeat before even playing. What's the point of being a "pro" then? The days of 'easy' big-money tournaments are gone I think.

I don't see why people are speculating on the $20. It's $70 to play at MLG and you have to travel on your own. Besides... who cares if it's only 50-man. I don't care for 1000-man brackets filled with diamond league scrubs and a handful of world-class players.

Edit: Haha I'm dumb. I speculate myself. Hypocrite. ^^

That's just the 'most played race' for the NA account he used to sign up with, remember many Koreans have team accounts or borrow an account for NA tournaments/qualifiers.

Yeah, if you're not going to cast it live a live bracket would at least make up for it in some part. Is there a reason why the results of the bracket was delayed for a few days after the first qualifier?

Does anyone else have trouble with the bracket-system from playhem? It auto-updates, which is fine (although I think there should be an on-off option) but the updates resets to the 'information and rules' tab. Thus, I have to press the bracket tab over and over. Chrome.

I agree. Despite the low turn out (in comparison to the 1000+ slots), the competition is ridiculous. It's basically what the GSL World Championship was supposed to be. Top tier Koreans and the best of the best Foreigners.

Yeah, it does it to Firefox also. The bracket set up with the scrolling box is veryyyyy annoying. Especially when you finally scroll all the way down to be taken back to the top by an update. = (

Hmm I don't have this issue on Chrome or Firefox. Odd, but I let Playhem know!

Can you tell them to make a full screen bracket? It's really hard to read their bracket and is very cumbersome to navigate. They should do it challonge style.

Nice to see you took a game off of him! Too bad your draw was so tough. Better luck next time!

Edit: Nvm on the MMA question.

Man what has got into Check lately:

2-0 vs both Trickster and Demuslim, for someone being written off a while back he's really having an impressive resurgence. Starting to think he's a legit contender to make it out of his up&down group @ GSL

I'm pretty impressed with Stephano rather than Check at the moment. Though what you said was indeed impressive.

I don´t understand why so few european players signed up. If you want to get better you have to compete against the koreans and 20 $ should be worth the risk of loosing in the first round.

Kind of. He was always one of the lower tier code s players who somehow made it far sometimes with his 7 gate timing attacks, but you never considered him super solid. Basically his timing attacks were 2nd tier compared to hong-un prime!

Ah, I see. I thought he was a pretty consistent Ro16/Ro8 player in Code S. Never did better or worse for the most part.

idd.

He had a decent run earlier in the year but he was pretty derided for his play even then. Dropped to A after losing every game in up&downs, then straight out 0-2.

He's like 2-13 in his last 15 games over the last 4 months or w/e, overall win % of about 40.

I agree. It is the worst bracket site I've seen. Challonge and z33k show brackets much better.

I swear my mouse wheel is going to break from all the scrolling I keep doing!

Brackets just need to be put in some other way of viewing through an option at least. The worst part is I can't view the full bracket on my phone because my phone can't scroll down inside the bracket area. = (((

What bracket system DOESN'T make you scroll a lot? I like the playhem brackets as they fold as you scroll to the side.

I didn't realize it folded when you go further right. That's actually pretty cool.

But, that said, I can't remember any bracket that I had to scroll so much to get from the top to the bottom, to be honest.

It's not so much the scrolling. It's the fact the bracket is displayed in such a tiny box that takes up a fraction of the webpage.

I don't have a problem with their bracket design per se, but more an issue with the small area to view it. If they just added an option to allow full screen bracket, then it would be perfect.

Nope 2 base robo with 2-3 immortal into collo.. he had 2 collo when attack came and got a 3rd out to barely survive.. was close but no econ for puma so puzzle wins.

Did Puma go cloak (I notice he likes that variant a lot more than other pros)? Sounds like quite a bit of stuff to have out in time for a 1-1-1 o-o

Don't tell me artosis col build is the answer? Demuslim at mlg said col isn't the answer to 1-1-1. Though I think artosis said to do 1 base col.

Not surprising. I lump killer in with trickster as a bottom 5 code s player who will both be gone from code s soon.

anyways, will there be any live coverage of this in the latter stages of the tournament (like tlopen)?

You are a true fanboy. When Koreans dominate you say Koreans >> Rest of the world, when someone outside of Korea wins a series against them, you try to find excuses.

Killer is still in a A-team in Korea, Code S player. He is a good player, no matter what you think.

Sarens beating TSL_Killer 2-0 O_O

After defeating sen in an impressive way at assembly summer, this guy shines every time he appears in a tournament (he also won both Goody and Darkforce 2-0 yesterday)

Link of Sarens's Stream : http://fr.twitch.tv/cnsarens enjoy =)

It's the default format we don't actually play it out.

We give you updates so you can get excited and see what's going on, and then we can present the replays to you in a professional, polished manner during the week.

It may end up being polished and professional, but it ends up feeling far more fragmented than an amateur live tournament and lacks any tension.

It wouldn't surprise me if zenio starts to make a name for himself in online competitions (edit: well he's already made a name for himself, but I can see him dominating online tournaments moreso than he does code s), he seems like the kind of guy that may only live up to the hype in the comfort of his own home.

Dunno what about the others, but for me knowing the results just takes away the excitement. :-/
I'd rather have everything either kept secret and then completely (or a selection) casted within the next week, or just live coverage in general.
Maybe you guys should consider a poll, even though it is a qualifier, the tournament is totally stacked with so much money on the line (two paid trips to the U.S. with accomodation in top class hotels that's easily over 4k$).

Also a big reason we don't cast this live is because we don't like presenting a product where's there's long breaks between games, language issues trying to organize, jumping between servers, potential lag issues, etc. Casting from replays eliminates all of these issues.

Yeah the games aren't going to be very fun to watch if the results are already known. A lot of excitement comes from seeing if your favorite player is going to win and if the foreigner will be able to beat the korean etc.
I get that there are good reasons to cast from replays but with so much SC2 to watch nowadays I even skip most GSL matches where I know the result of beforehand, unless I specifically want to the study the matchup or something.

You guys could learn how to pass those long breaks elegantly,
like today in the gsl qualifiers, where just vods of past gsl games were shown.
with two finished seasons, you people should have a good enough repetoire of awesome games,
that are rewatchable. Moreover, I highly doubt that everybody has seen every game,
there are probably many newcomers who haven't followed the previous seasons that closely.

Good for Stephano, but the the games were probably quite laggy no matter which server they were played on. Strifecro beat JYP too, which, no offense, doesn't seem a very likely occurrence under normal conditions

probably so, still nice. Hopefully gives some incentive for more foreign pros to sign up for the remaining qualifiers when they see their peers having some success cross server vs Koreans.

Of course MKP could have just done some retarded ass builds like he tends to do a lot as well =p

NA I presume.

Pretty sure it was mentioned on an old broadcast that it's NA unless players are from the same server, in which case they can play on their home server.

i mean IPL creates a lot of good content like interviews, highlight videos etc. which they could easily show in potential downtimes

Stephano is playing from Tunisia, with a not so good connection, so I think MKP had'nt the worst lags

Unfortunately socke will play a Z which is just about auto-lose, while stephano starts out on xelnaga caverns against alive :/

I think in previous months I'd have looked at check and thought socke was in with a good chance, but he seems to be having somewhat of a resurgance recently, atleast in games ive seen :-/

LOLs. It's funny how these days people are mixing foreign scene with just the West.

I mean.... what about Sen or the Chinese players or Filipinos...

I think because we actually see the Western players more here, with more head on matches with the Koreans. Plus, im from europe, so thats my bias.

Yeah that was admittedly not fantastic, but I didnt even have him making it that far into Code A. I thought he was going to drop off the map completely that season. Hopiong he has a poor match against socke hehe

They will stay until it's too late...in USA. So from France is 11:37 PM, -6 hours for est coast, -9 for west coast. In Korea, it's +9, so it's very soon in the morning. If Admins stay on US time, it will be very hard for all remaining players

EDIT: Stephano is actualy in Tunisia (his family's country origine), so he might be +1 from GMT, not sure about that.

Yeah, that would be somewhat stupid to stay on US time when there is no player from US but yeah, we'll see

I think IPL lacks of live content. Even the grand finals of season 2 did not get that much attention, even if it was a huge prize pool.

Replaycasts just do not work in SC2, people want to watch live, its just so much more exciting.

Yeah, free shootcasters are a ton, event for qualifiers, in each tongue...IPL can even force some adds and streaming tools like IEM/ESL did in Cologne (Köln for germans).

I'd like poltimus prime to get a spot because he gets so much flack from people, when he's an absolute beast now! He was crap during open seasons cause of school, but now he's definitely one of the best players in the world now.

well, good run for Stephano, no shame in losing to aLive, he's a very strong player (particularly when he plays standard rather than bizarro 1 base =p)

Yeah just saying. Slayers could take a lot of these qualifiers, cause puzzle came very close this time and can get one next 2. Same with mma, but mma has had awful brackets. MMA vs Ryung round 1 last one, and MMA vs DRG round 1 today.

Would be funny and sad at the same time if 2 prime members qualify today and mkp isn't one of them. I hope you get back to the top again soon mkp! Used to be the clear best of prime, but poltimus prime now holds that title!

You can say the same for A LOT of Koreans playing through the lag and have a realistic chance of winning.

Plus koreans start play at 3am, which is pretty much the worst time you can get as it's in the dead of night and the further you advance the closer you are to watching the sun rise.

Seems like GomTvT right now actually.

Edit: My mistake, Check's Zerg. No idea why I remembered him as Terran.

to anyone who saw puzzle beat puma's 1-1-1 attack

questions

1) did puma do the 1-1-1 attack at 10 minutes with tanks/banshees/marines ???

the 1-1-1 attack must be moving out to engage the protoss at 10 minutes. any slower is not a true 1-1-1

the terran must not upgrade cloak

the terran must not get marauders. its pure mairne tank banshee with possibly a raven added in

did puzzle beat puma with ALL of the above being true?

if so. i believe a counter to 1-1-1 has been found and i must find that replay or vod

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE tell me how to get a replay or vod of puma vs puzzle puzzle beats the 1-1-1 ?

Well, it seems that noone will get out of the IPL Origins... alive...
Great showing by alive in foreign tournaments so far, despite serious Korean competition.
Why haven't we seen him in the GSL yet? (or even GSTL, can't remember seein him)

Did Polt/Check really play the 3rd place match? Is there any significance to it?

He's been in both.

If I recall correctly he was briefly in Code S but got knocked down.
