It seems kind of weird that MarineKing can't get an invite to MLG or now this. If he's signing up for qualifiers and wants to play seems crazy not to invite him. Wouldn't make sense to have him knock out tons of good players in these qualifiers then invite him later.

Maybe they stopped inviting him cause the places where he did get invited to (Dreamhack, IEM) he had to turn all of them down. Also including him signing a contract for NASL and stepping out. I want to see him in foreign tournaments as much as the next guy but you got to admit he seems a bit flakey.

EDIT: Looks like there will be at least 64 people signed up by the time the qualifier starts. I'd say that's a good turnout. I remember the first IPL2 qualifier had around ~150 or so and that was without any sort of fee.

You can't blame him for the NASL thing because that was a group decision which he had no say in. He couldn't go to IEM because he's still in the middle of Code A. I think the fans appreciate them giving invites to the any of the top 4 in GSL ranking and if they can't come because they're in the middle of GSL then just replace them. It's worth the risk and the chance they show up makes the tournament infinitely better. You have to admit that the invites are strange. Why would you invite Ret but make MarineKing play in the qualifier?

It seems a bit unfair (I'm going to take a random made-up example), to invite MVP but make MKP play in the qualifier tournaments. How are players selected? I'd think that Nerchio/White-Ra/Mana would get spots due to strong IPL2 performance but that hasn't seemed to be the case. To be fair all four invited so far did pretty well at IPL 2 so it's not like they flamed out losing in LB1.

What's really odd is that the time is more or less prime-time for Europe isn't it? No idea. IEM is going on, sure, but is there some other huge tourney that a lot of the European players would be involved in this weekend?
