I mean, you see a TON of scrubs throwing money away for buy-ins at poker-tournaments where chances of going home in the money are even smaller.

Apparently $20 is quite the barrier to entry lol. Pretty shocking considering the winners get free flight + hotel + $1000 guaranteed. With a list so short, any no-names willing to risk 6pooling 4 Bo3 to a ticket?

While this is true it should be a fairly quick tournament. It's single elimination bo3 all rounds, finals won't be played I assume since top 2 receive same prize, and not many participants.

Probably not worth losing $20 though. On August 19 2011 03:53 IGNProLeague wrote: Yup other countries can for sure compete, only people from Vermont cannot! Even Quebec!?

If you guess that a Bo3 can take minimum 20 minutes, that's 3 hours if everything runs smoothly and in a timely manner... So I'd guess it's going to be a minimum of 5 hours, if not longer. So finish up at 5 AM if you make it all the way through. Even then, that's a generous estimate. Bo3s can take a long time sometimes... not all series are equal.

Would be awesome if its 20$ for masters and grandmasters, and like 5$ for ranks below that. :D So people would just sign up with smurfs. $20 isn't too much. I think the first qualifier might have a low turn out because it was really short notice from the announcement.
