Bleh, I had really hoped at least Naniwa and Thorzain would get past their first matches. There goes my LB. Oh, well, hope they stick around to pick up some of the korean practice and I'm sure eventually they'll both walk in the footsteps of other great foreigners such as HuK, Jinro and IdrA into code S.

what a epic lulz

4/4 in liquidbets. While Thorzain and Naniwa are very good, I picked yugioh and check because I thought they were underrated and would have time to prepare for foreigners. I do think Thorzain will qualify and get in to code A if he decides to stay in Korea for next season.

Though Plague_R was banned for profanity, his overall message was a good one. I don't see why some people in the foreign community turn against their very own players when they're not on par with Koreans the first time they compete in Korea. Let us support our foreigners to train hard, improve, and do better next time, rather than going "lol they suck, give the spots to more worthy ppl". Going to Korea to train is an ambitious feat, and you're not going to have immediate results. Everyone should understand this and respect what foreigners in Korea are trying to accomplish.
|
what a depressing day i was hoping for atleast Naniwa and Thorzain to move on in code a
|
Pretty much what i was expecting. Foreigners arent good enough to hop off a plane and compete with koreans. If they stick around and practice I think all these guys have the potential to make up/down matches at least but I dont know how anyone expected them to compete with them getting to korea like 2 days ago. They wouldnt win a code b qualifying match with that much prep much less code A
|
What depressing results. I hope these guys train and become among the best in korea.

It's not all negativity, though some of it is. People are saying that the foreigners can't keep up with the koreans. How is that negativity? Unless you count truth as negativity. Fact of the matter is they can't. Nothing wrong with supporting foreigners, I just get sick of the "foreigner scene dies then sc2 scene dies" bullshit. Because the majority of us watch for the quality of the games.

So if he is right... Fuck me? I'm not mad at the foreigners that they lost. It was very likely that they do because everyone needs time to pratice in korea and get used to this level of play. I am sad that "we" keep sending foreigners to the gsl without real time to pratice in korea. I would have love to see them playing in the next season but as many other said they literally had no time to prepare due to various reasons. And i am watching gsl because i want to see good games and i honestly feel that some of the codeB players would have put up a better show. That is just my opinion.

In fact, since I'm Chinese, I'd be cheering for Koreans more than I would be cheering for Europeans or Americans anyways geographical proximity-wise and since I'm Asian. I really could care less if a foreigner never won a game again.
I'm much more into cheering for people who show skill and have a proper mindset towards this, and the dedication to succeed. Jinro and Naniwa get lots of respect from me because of their strong work ethic and dedication so I would hope the best for them. But don't expect me to cheer for someone like Sheth that leaves Korea before even giving it a chance. I don't think people deserve to be flamed for making these decisions either.

ThorZain has a decent shot, but he was kinda sloppy and slow in that game. I guess b/c of the travel. Beside that not surprise when other ppl lost.
|
I Believe! Nani, Thorzain, or Jinro all have the potential to be great. Once Nani and Thor start training like the best, they will become the best.

You are missing the point. You are assuming the only reason to cheer for these guys is their nationality, but that has nothing to do with it. Instead, we cheer on foreigners because they grew as players outside the esports capital of the world, and are thus underdogs. They represent the fact that korea is not the only place housing amazing talent (like many koreans seem to believe).
Here's an example to illustrate this point. Select is korean but lives in America. But if he were to participate in the GSL, we would all be rooting hard for him because he's a participant in the foreign scene.

here is another point. many americans watch the superbowl even if they don't support the teams in question.
here is another point. many people watch mvp, mc, mkp and nestea because they r just sick players that are amazing.
plus koreans believe they have the best players because they have proved that point time and time again. it's a stereotype that is actually fact.

I guess traveling has also made it more difficult for Naniwa and ThorZain to adjust to the Korean play. Too bad, I was hoping for at least some of the foreigners to stay in code A. I really hope they'll stick around and try again next season.
|
There's no way the foreigners Nani and Thorzain could have competed right off the plane like that, dissapointing, but expected.

Forgive my ignorance, but are the maps they veto really worse than the ones they get? I don't think I've ever seen a Terran beat a Zerg on Bel'shir Beach or Crossfire. Why do they keep picking/not vetoing these maps?
|
a true champion is undeterred by defeat and doens't give up. korea represents the pinnacle of sc2, obviously foreigners will have a hard time, but if they have the resolve to stay, they will improve drastically. much respect for jinro for taking all these brutal beatings and still maintaining his resolve to stay there and compete among the best.
|
I expected Jinro to do better, but given that Naniwa / Sase / Thorzain are still un-acclimated to Korea I didn't expect them to advance. This first match is simply who they are "today." The Naniwa / Sase / Thorzain of 2-3 months from now will be much improved.
