IMPORTANT! NEW! Tournament format: The Arizona Open will be run group stages into bracket play. There is no elimination in the group rounds. All players will be placed into 8 groups. Each group will play a round robin of best-of-threes. After the first game, the loser will pick the next map (No map may be played twice in a match) and so on until the bo3 is over. After the group stages are over the top 16 players (2 from each group. subject to change based on attendance) will then move on to the bracketed single elimination finals. The ro16, ro8, ro4 will be played in a bo3 format. The finals for the tournament will be a bo5.
Tardy rule: Since we are running a format with groups, time will be of extreme importance. Any player who is more than 10 minutes late to a round will receive a forfeit loss for that game and start the series at 0-1 and choice of map. A player that is 20 minutes late forfeits the match 0-2.
Technical Difficulties: Any drop occurring before the 5 minute mark will result in a rematch using the same map. Any other drop will be reviewed by the tournament admin.
Tournament Etiquette: Good tournament Etiquette will be required. Excessive profane language in an aggressive manner, any violence, or other similar behavior may result in disqualification.
Observers: No in game observers, other than tournament administrators or official tournament casters will be allowed. Any stream cheating will result in immediate disqualification.
Reporting Results: All tournament players are required to report their result to a tournament administrator. Failure to report a result may end up in a forfeit for that round.

Same party spot as last time because it's not too far from the venue at this location. Four Peaks Brewery 1340 E 8th St Tempe, AZ 85281. It's a local microbrewery which exports to only a few places. Support the home scene folks. ^_^

If I can weasel my way out of a camping trip with my sister's ex I'll go. Just moved to Flagstaff so it's a two and a half hour drive according to mapquest. Hopefully it's worth it :S

Haven't had time to settle on a race with all the moving and shit. I'll settle on one soon.

I was just thinking the same thing. I live about 10 minutes from this place so I'll definitely have to stop by if the whole EG team will be there.
Edit: Is Puma planning on coming to America or is he staying in Korea? I haven't exactly followed the whole situation. Would be crazy cool to see him come and steal everyone's money though. =D

I'm surprised that this hasn't been brought up before.. I'm actually shocked that that Mesa even allows a gaming place to be open on a Sunday. Absolute Sacrilege.
Looking good for the overall outcome of the events.
I was telling a few of the AZ members hopefully by the end of 2012 I should be back in Arizona and hopefully stationed at Luke AFB which will open up some new options.

This has to do with availability of venues, competing event times, etc. There are factors that lend us to choose Sunday instead of Saturday. However, this is readdressed every month as I prepare for the next event.

We typically have been getting done well ahead of 11pm. I think the finals ended around 9pm last time. I keep things moving pretty well.

yea
and last time was way over crowded and only h alf of the ppl could play per round so it took twice as long for the round robin.
I told her it was a possibility it maybe on my Bday. we'll see though.. its more difficult because just last weekend she evolved from GF to Fiance.. that seems to be important to her and spending more time together despite living with one another x.x
Also I edited in my registration info to my last post.

sounds good Gandair!
Just an FYI, not only is he right in that we should support local bars and whatnot, but Four Peaks is also probably one of the best bars in Arizona - so it's not like you're not going there just to give them money.
i gotta get off work that day but shouldnt be an issue!
REQPhiliBiRD.490 Grandmaster T
Wonder if theres any bars nearby! Must designate one!
As a GM you dont give ur CC away man.... now every terran In NA will ask u for tutoring. lol. my CC is 492, i m 2 steps away from greatness :D.
I wonder if i can access this tournament through my copy of the game GTA San Andreas, i will drive near Hoover Dam (in the game) and see if theres a game shack.
I'm up in Scottsdale, and while I'm only in the Silver league, I'm really interested in getting better and entering tournaments. Assuming I can make enough time to head down to this, anyone have any advice as to whether it'd be worth me entering? I'd hate to spend the money just to find out that I'd just receive a sound beating and not gain much, and am wondering if simply spectating would be best.

its def worth the money man, go to have fun. unlike most tournaments, because its a swiss style you get to play at minimum 4 best of 3's. vs players of all skills.
theres people of all skill levels :-) and prizes for players who are below masters and diamond

Sorry, likely not going to be able to make it. Work is work.
Its always worth it!! Support the community even if you don't think you'll do well. I never have any illusions on my game (I sucks arse) But I have a ton of fun just being around others who love this game.
What better way to improve your gameplay by asking questions and watching better players play live is eye opening. (not as much in SC2 as in BW imo)
Also Rag you can drive up with me If your down you know how I do!! Screw the money part come hang out.

The format has changed from Swiss to group play round robin, but same principle applies, you'll get plenty of games and get to converse with other players about your games. You'll get to meet some pros and have a good time.
I'd like to participate in this, it seems like SO MUCH fun and a nice place.
I live in Tempe right now, but I have no idea how I'm going to get there without a car. I just moved here so I don't know anyone either. Any advice / help would be great in a PM.
NA server: ShowTheLove Masters on EU, Diamond NA because I've been trying T out. Will be playing Zerg

Don't pull over and ask for directions from any female types holding a styrofoam cup by the fingers. They are prostitutes. Just relaying information from what I was told.
In all seriousness, attend the events, meet some people, have a good time and don't look back.

What is your EU information? and character code for NA?
On August 16 2011 23:25 Virum wrote: Why the change in format? Personally i prefer the swiss system, games get easier for people who suck ;p
The bigger the tournament gets the more rounds you require to get an accurate top X (6,8,16). Groups cause far less confusion overall (I don't have to constantly explain the format, despite linking information about the format that anyone can easily read). I can add in more matches per person because I can keep groups moving faster than swiss and get everyone involved more games to play.
If it was on Saturday I could have likely been able to go but I have no ride out there or back on Sunday (as it stands now anyway). I havent been able to go since the May one

There may be people coming from the westside. Post here earlier looking for a ride dude so you can try to grab one.

Where you at? Always post if you need a ride, its pretty common to have someone be nice enough to give people a life. Naturally give em some gas money to make up for it :-)

I sent all the Tucson peeps I saw in this thread and have not been able to talk with any of them. I am leaving in an hour and half or so so get on it. Hit me up with a pm now!!!! Cross streets and a phone number Ill get ya.

I may have been able to get the finals, but only the finals. It's dependant on help from Axslav, StrifeCro and one other guy. Super amazingly helpful they were in arranging that for us. I'll do what I can to get them asap.
Unfortunately I can bring almost no content for people who were unable to attend. I felt the restrictions with replay access, video recording, and still photography whether inside or outside the venue to be very hostile and defensive. I would love to share the experience I had with everyone and tell people how good the event was, but find myself unable to do so outside of an article I didn't expect to have to write in the first place and frankly don't have time to with Raleigh so close and so much paperwork to do. The staff at the event were very kind, friendly, and in all other ways supportive of our event despite the inability to get any archival media.
I wish I had something good to say other than some of the games were amazing. Machine vs Taco, Axslav vs Weaklink, Temprament vs PhiliBiRD, and the finals especially between Machine and Axslav were amazing. It's a shame we have to miss out on most of those. There's a gap in AZ LAN history now.
I am sad over this and pretty sure it's hurting eSports. (half sarcasm/half serious there)
Mad props to Axslav and all of the other finalists! I wonder why the [other] EG players would rather stream online than go to a local tournament supporting their fans and the starcraft scene... wieeeeeerd
