Multiplay are proud to once again present to you our Starcraft 2 tournament. Our fourth tournament after the previous successful tournaments where the best of the UK (and the rest of the world) have come to battle!
This event takes place at the biggest UK gaming festival/LAN party. Only i43 attendees can sign up for the tournament.
Signups close at 11:30 GMT (+00:00) on the Friday 26th August.
(Warning: These times are subject to changes running up to the event!.)
Tournament Structure
BYOC (NEW! You can possibly rent a computer HERE) LAN Tournament only. Maxiumm of 256 Participants. Groups – BO3. Eliminations(Double Elim) – BO3 Upper and Lower Bracket Finals – (If time permits)BO5 (Otherwise BO3) Grand Final: BO7.
PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT use extended series, but in the grand final, the Upper bracket winner has a 2-0 advantage for having never lost a set.
Group size and number of bracket rounds will be configured based apon signups at the event.
First map is determined by the round you are playing in. It will show on Clanforge and will be on a rotation. The loser of the previous map will ALWAYS choose the next map. (Example - Player A lost map 1. Player A gets to choose map 2. Player A wins map 2 and so player B gets to choose map 3).
Maps are never to be repeated in the same BO3/BO5/BO7.
Totalbiscuit and dApollo will both be casting during the event - both regulars on the Multiplay Starcraft 2 scene the games will be incredibly exciting to watch with their live presence!
For German viewers we have a new official caster for the event! Krytos of the MyStarCraft.de/GameSports caster team will be covering for our German language viewers!
Stream
Multiplay now have HD broadcasting equipment, so the finals should be streamed at www.fileplay.net
Throughout the weekend LeonStarcraft will be streaming all weekend in association with http://ukstarcraft.net/
13 June - Thread Created 19 June - Totalbiscuit & dApollo casting 26 June - Added PC Rental option 14 August - Added German caster Krytos 05 Sept - Added Finals VOD links (WCG included)
its really stupid that they are only having LoL WCG qualfiers and not SC2 im suprised they dont even have FIFA which im guessing thats something we're good at.
Anyway the main tournament is going to be sick and im looking forward to it!
Would love to go to these lans but can never get it off work, need to stop using holidays so early in the year lol. I bet a lot of good players will come this time especially Diginitas!!!
The site is still to be updated but the rules on this thread are up to date, I don't have direct access to the Multiplay site but I have informed them.
WCG qualifiers I will need to gather more information on, since there are more channels to go through.

UK are sending LoL, Fifa, SC2 and Tekken. I'm pretty sure anyway
Hmm, would love to attend.. Not sure I'm available yet. Doubt I would be able to bring my own computer up though, wouldn't be very practical on my motorbike!

And PAX prime that has some good sc2 stuff usually.
Indeed, this has to be the most fully booked weekend in the entirety of august. A real shame about the planning. Oh well, if MLG turns out to be another korean stomping ground like last time this will make a nice backup! I might actually just put this up on the main screen and watch MLG in the background.
This is nothing but guessing but I have a feeling WCG UK final will not be at this event. As i43 community manager of Fifa has announced the following:
Things have changed with Samsung UK this year and therefore we're going to be operating WCG slightly different this year. FIFA 11 PC at i43 will be to win tickets to Eurogamer Expo (22nd to 25th September @ Earls Court, London) to compete in the UK National Final over the 4 days of their show, so effectively i43 becomes a WCG pre-qualifier.

Going to be an EPIC weekend of Starcraft, Can't wait to see some good action and have a great weekend chilling with some the starcraft 2 community, lets make it an awesome event.
Also going to do a proper BBQ for all starcraft 2 community members over the weekend so keep an eye out for information.

I'm thinking of going to watch, but never been to anything similar before.
- Can I buy my £5 all-day ticket at the door, or will they sell out and I need to order them online in advance soon? - The website doesn't say what time on each date the SC2 tourneys will actually take place, is there any kind of rough idea? Don't want to start watching it at 10 pm really. - Do you need to reserve seats, I see the option on the site but it seems kind of confusing. Is it just first-come-first-serve, how far in advance should you be there to get a good seat, 30 mins? - Best day to go if I have to pick one? I'm working on Friday so that's ruled out. Are the finals on Sunday a considerably better experience, or would I have as much fun watching on Saturday and possibly less packed with people?
Any other tips for a tournament/gaming festival newbie? Thanks

I don't recommend getting a £5 all-day ticket, it seems this will only give you access to "Exhibition & Live Finals Arena" Part of the experience is going to meet SC2 players which we be playing most of Saturday and Sunday so you want to get yourself a ticket find them on the seating planner and speak to them. All the UK guys are friendly people. Remember iseries is not only SC2 so on Sunday generally they only have slot for finals of each game. I'm not sure on the Saturday schedule maybe a Multiplay staff member can give you that information, Last event we had Totalbiscuit casting on stage throughout Saturday.
Short: Buy an all access ticket, you don't need a seat reserved, normally loads of seating on stage, I recommend Saturday. Find Sombrero and ask him for meat.
Eh... £25 seems a bit steep, especially if I bring my gf along too. So the £5 ticket will only get me access to the finals arena, not the SC2 games on the Saturday? :/

You'll be able to watch the games if they are streamed on the main stage like TB did at i42, but you want to be able to get into the player area's and talk to the SC2 players etc and see them playing first hand.
At i42 they offered 2 differen't spectator tickets, a weekend pass for 25 and a 1day pass for 10. Not sure but if they do the 1 day bass for 10 again like they always have done you'll be able to go anywhere with that
On August 09 2011 07:22 Xeris wrote: same weekend as MLG T_T!
Yeah it wouldn't be the first time. iSeries is a large LAN event, the tournament side really is secondary, though they have tons of them, all with prizes, many for games that aren't generally considered eSports so it's cool that we have so much variety. I think our finals day is actually after MLG finishes so at least we can get that watched and many of the Europeans aren't going to MLG so they might come here instead.
Hey, really glad there's a local tournament for me and my friends to visit! I would first like to ask a few questions before booking tickets for me and a few friends.:
> Would a £5pp ticket provide me and my friends the ability to watch the pro's playing live? > Would the £25pp camping + all weekend ticket allow me to watch the pro's playing live? > Who's actually going?

£5 ticket would allow you to see the finals on Sunday live, £25 would allow you to see the finals on Sunday + meet all the SC2 players and watch them play live.
Not sure exactly on the line-up but I know most of UK's best will be going,
Lau, rANDY, FlashDave, BlinG, Pureball, Fargo will be attending and I've heard that Demuslim will be flying over for the WCG spot.

Well as far as I know, it's a qualifying tournament at i43 with the finals being held at Eurogamer
Do not fear. There WILL be WCG at i43. It will be announced soon. Chances are at the moment its a shorter tournament hosted before the main one. Stay tuned here.
its 10 days away and all we know is what day. Would be great to know if we need to be getting there for 9 or 10 am as ppl have to travel quite a way. Also is it byoc? I cant imagine many on the invite list who arent already attending i43 coming at such short notice. Might make it easier as i doubt demuslim is flying over so short notice :/ glad we are having one though. Is the prize just the ticket? Sorry if any errors typing on phone
Firstly I want to apologise for the lack of information surrounding the WCG SC2 event at the upcoming Insomnia43 event. The reason for this is a last minute decision to split the 2 tournaments so that the UK players are not affected by any EU players and potentially being removed from the tournament earlier than warranted.
I have built a specific WCG Starcraft 2 section on the iseries website which can be found here: WCG Starcraft2 UK hosted by Multiplay and will contain all the information you will need to know regarding tournament start times, ticket types needed specifically for WCG and any additional info you will need i.e. Admins, Rules etc.
Please note this is all to be played on the Friday so that all entrants, should they have a full BYOC ticket, can then enter the Razer Starcraft2 tournament which begins on the saturday.
The full tournament schedule is due to be released within the next 24 hours including a main stage schedule so have a good idea of what to expect during the event. Please note this is still subject to change although start and finish times are 99% concrete.
I hope all this helps and once again sorry for the delay on information, no excuses, communication will be better for the future.
Kind Regards

yh but a free WCG spot over a likely non top 20 finish in mlg i would go for the free wcg spot.
Hmm, the UK scene has improved a huge deal since he came a roflstomped at i41. Especially players like Lau and BlinG and i'm not sure it'd be a free WCG spot, i'm sure them players and others would be more than capable of beating him

Really interested to see who will be here though, I saw that Merz is attending, so wonder if any other foreign players will be
There was a list for signups but i forget where it was, one weird thing is that there is 25 signups open for WCG which must mean 7 invites, or a very weird bracket i can't name 7 players that would deserve an invite who aren't already on the signup list so i wonder whts happening there.

Anyway, I didn't bring my passport.. but yeh.. hopefully can still play, its pretty clear i am english Tommorow it would be lovely to have clear instructions where to go to confirm signup for WCG. hope everyone has a good event!
It seems the stream on the TL page links to the Twitch.tv stream, which for me doesnt seem to be up. If you want to watch, try the owned.tv stream here:
Pretty sad that this isnt even on the TL sidebar, format may need a rethink too to actually get some watchable games for the stream. Massive skill gap games really arent entertaining in a money tournament.
Seriously, one thing that i43 should work really hard in fixing is TotalBiscuit's minimap awareness....there are huge balls of units fighting each others indicated in the minimap and he is commentating about his and hers scouting barracks...it has happened like 3 times in the last game I watched.

13 hours straight casting with very few breaks.
Fix that.
LOL. I enjoy the casting, dont get me wrong. But I guess I wasn't understanding to the casting stamina situation. It's just that the "His and Hers" barracks seemed the most random comment to be making at time of an engagement and missing the bits of the engagements is a bit fustrating as a viewer. Maybe you should let dApollo control the camera for a bit so you can take minimap break. =)
EDIT: Really exciting final!! 245 scvs killed at one point...really back and forth games.
Really disappointed, Fargo has such a disadvantage and just seemed to through it away at the end, good job though on your first LAN performance, also GJ to StarEagle
To be fair, i've never had to deal with being the "favorite" at an event and it was a sick and good experience. I felt so much pressure in the finals and Fargo really played quite well. Happy that I managed to pull through in the end. Awesome event overall and props to Fargo for playing so well and giving me such a sick and intense run for the 1st place

LOL yeh i was just guna make a post about you and Fargo bcus of 1) your intense APM throughout (how the hell do your hands not get tired) and 2) Fargo's 260+ worker's killed i was like WTF?! and even Apollo said it's prolly a world record xD
I have to say, Merz positioning on Crossfire was really impressive. That contain should be the map blueprint in how to do it. Well done Merz! =) Crossfire tight ramps make is so much more effective as well.
Really fun tournament, I really wished i payed for the BOYC ticket and just played on the free computers they were providing...I was not told i could waa. I had such an epic 40 minute TvT with Blader in a tight 1-1 series to get into the semi finals of the WCG, I don't know what happened in the s-finals, Nerves of my first lan with the casting and stuff i imagine making 2 critical errors, 1 putting that barracks down there was so silly and when he saw it he knew exactly what was up, and also losing that god damn raven and banshee, after that i knew it was gg.., Flopped it badly and made myself look like a totalnoob, But i can't be dissapointed. All i can do is improve!
Here is a video of Tyles.. just thought i would post it here...there was a group of about 10/15 including some friends watching him play his deciding long game vs RzrBlader
Was an intense tournament, we have never had to manage a 140 man tournament before, and fit it into 2 days. Thanks to Daygnore and Bakor for making it possible. I'm currently completely and utterly exhausted now and looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight!
The new venue is suitably epic and the huge screen makes the finals extra awesome to watch. We had a blast watching the hour long map with hundreds of SCVs killed and 20+ thors at one point, thanks to Fargo for fighting to the bitter end and stretching Merz to end it 4-3.
Also a quick congratulations to BlinG for winning the WCG UK Qualifier - he really wanted that win and he showed it in his gameplay.
VODs will be up as soon as the content team get back to base and unpack + get time to upload the files, ill get a link to this thread when they are ready.
Thanks again to Totalbiscuit and Apollo for making the games entertaining to watch, you guys are getting more like a casting Archon every day. <3

Have you guys considered changing the format? The way you seed the groups of bad players vs semi pros to be on stream on the Saturday just didnt make for interesting viewing.
To be honest it put TB + Apollo in a pretty awkward position as well.

It's not a change in format more to point is it worth streaming at that point in the tournament, then you look at the stream numbers at that time as well as the amount of casual players who attended who helped get us a bigger prize pool, why not give them a chance to stream and play versus the pros cause I spoke to most of the (bad players) and they enjoy getting the chance.
One of the groups was even randomly selected to go on our mini stage for the exhibition hall, gives some of the lower league players a chance to see what its like in the limelight
Next event we are considering a new format where non qualifying players have a tournament of their own after the group stage, but with a much smaller prize. Our LANs are more social and are supposed to provide games and entertainment for our players, this tournament works well however for esports, especially in the later stages which people love to watch on the stream/mini stage.
