Sadly it seems I have to put this up yet again. Any of the following types of posts will be met with immediate bans:

Imbalance whine/Player bashing/Caster bashing/Stream complaining/Off topic arguing.

Stick to the games and enjoy the event and its free services and coverage.

No offense but that's a pretty stupid comment from Torch. Interacting with the community doesn't make you a worse gamer by any means. Korean dominance has more do to with the (politically incorrect) fact that the average intelligence is higher in Korea and in East Asia in general, and that is also the reason China is pumping out millions of engineers and scientists, and Japan is a leader in hi-tech industries.

And that's a big part of the reason why we see Koreans dominating these competitions.

I'm really interested to see greenlanders play starcraft.

The picture made its rounds on reddit a few weeks ago, the majority pointed out it's inaccuracy: Look at North Korea.

That is incorrect. The majority tried to come up with explanations why this would be inaccurate, but no criticism would stick. Richard Lynn has spend whole books countering the arguments you are referring to, and he has done so well. Regarding the North Korean datapoint - it is based on a (relatively small) number of North Korean refugees in South Korea. Many other countries' datapoints are also based on small sample sizes. This is, however, irrelevant. Many studies have found the same broader pattern to be true, regardless of small variations in average IQ as a result of small sample size in some datapoints.

Even if it were true, averages say nothing about exceptional individuals like sc pro players.

I mean, saying "ASIANS BETTER IN SC2 CUZ THEY HIGHER IQ!"

equals saying "USAIN BOLT BETTER THAN MESSI IN SOCCER CUZ HE SO FAST!"

, which is untrue.

The IQ thing is a more sound argument then Torch, but still probably wrong. I'd imagine foreigners have a larger talent pool to compensate for the supposedly lower intelligence.

- to can the cat jump over the stream.

then we go to Europe dreamhack where we have

- is huk considered a korean or not
- koreans are better in sc2 because they have high IQ

TL LR thread is definitely going down in quality *_*

Soccer has been played for a very long time in europe and south america.

If you actually look at South Korea and consider that it was spurred on by the 2002 WC, that's incredible progress for a 9 year history.

This man speaks the truth, but I expect waves and waves of hate responses to this. This is Teamliquid after all, a foreign SC2 website.. people can't handle the truth, you know D:

I'd guess Teamliquid would come off deep red in those charts... lmao

So black people are all good at soccer because they have better physical abilities? Go look the winners of the world cup. Not a single african country ever won it. The best player ever was white.

Maybe it has to do with the level of investment you put in such a thing? Like, dunno, that's why europe and south america have always been dominating in soccer even if they're dumber than chinese and slower than africans.

What Pele is white now ... ?

he probably meant messi

Maradona and Messi are both better than Pele.

Lol what is incorrect is trying to make "Richard Lynn has spend(spent? lol) whole books countering the arguments you are referring to, and he has done so well" seem like a factual assertion rather than an opinion. Also don't talk about many studies if you don't actually reference your claims. Moron.

this IQ argument is BS. Just because one says the average IQ for SKs is 105 doesnt mean specific progamers like MC has 105+.( not saying he has low IQ btw), and it doesnt mean that qxc has 80-90 IQ

Uh the reason IQs in africa are so low has nothing to do with Africans being dumber and everything to do with IQ tests being culturally skewed towards a western idea of intelligence. IQ does not equal general intelligence, there is a correlation but it's certainly not a true indicator of intelligence

so thats why asia has the highest iq ;s?

Asia is certainly beating the west at its own game and has been for the past few decades. (If we're talking reasons, primary one is probably education, education in the US for example for the average citizen is fairly sub-par). The US has a pretty deep seed of anti-intellectualism in a lot of its political thought, intelligence isn't really valued here like it is in Asian countries. I don't know enough about europe to say.

edit : This is ridiculously off-topic. No game is on-going right now though, so I don't think it matters much. Killing time between matches.

Koreans train longer and more efficiently/effectively than foreign players. There's nothing more to it. We've seen it in all other sports. The county that has the the most efficient/effective training programs normally come out on top. Obviously there are exceptions to this rule, but that doesn't seem to be the case in Starcraft.
Lee Jae Dong proved that a focus on mechanics and execution could solve problems in the StarCraft game strategy.

so you really think the main reasons koreans are dominating sc2 is because of their superior intelligent?

The average IQ is 106 in South Korea according to a pretty awful source. Average IQ in the UK is 100, dead on.

That's more or less the difference between a salesman and an administrator (ie not much). It has no real effect on the peak intellectual capability of a nation and certainly not on the average capable person in the street.

IQ, like most things, is a fluid unit that has diminishing returns. What you are seeing out of the Koreans is motivation and practice regimes. Claiming it has anything to do with IQ is ridiculous.
