We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum.

Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service.

Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. Cut it out.

What? Are you implying games aren't worth watching just because of the players' nationality? They aren't "random Koreans" either. So stupid....

Don't reply to these comments.. people watch games for different reasons. I do because I love starcraft, which means I'll be happy to watch koreans at the top if they are truly the best. Other people watch for the hype, and they feel more excited when their homies play. I understand the feelings of many people, although I feel that shouldn't make them miss quality starcraft games.

There is no shortage of quality games, what makes MLG and other tournaments special to me is cheering for personalities I know. Just having random amazing players, that don't speak the language, that are not involved in the western scene (don't stream, don't go on shows, don't contribute) I just don't care about their results.

A korean wins, which one? I certainly don't care, in fact, koreans will take home all the big money, because they are top 3.

bitter foreigner much?

you're a fucking racist.

It's not racist to only be interested in watching players you know.

I don't care about watching barcelona vs real madrid in the champions league, but as soon as a british team's involved I will watch!

He didn't say players he knew. He said "without any white players." So even if there were NA players who were asian or black he wouldn't be interested regardless of knowing them or not. That is indeed racist.

Agreed, i honestly prefer watching koreans the games are of a higher skill level, i wanted nothing more than to see a korean finals ^^ it will just make foreigners work harder anyways. I really love naniwa would have loved to see him take it as well, but top foreigners have been acting a little ridiculous near the end of this tournament, Naniwa's dance of death and idras cheeses and 5 minute gg's. koreans deserve the win!

That's why the most popular tournament in SC2 is the GSL?

Most popular with Koreans, before SC2 and the western tournaments Starcraft was a tiny niche in the West. Just look at TL, it went from a tiny community where everyone knew everyone else to a destination on the internet. The west got into SC2 because of western players and tournaments.

Doesn't change the fact koreans are better and now they're coming to every single lan event, so either foreigners step it up, or the korean monopoly will continue rightfully so

Yup, and the US and EU scene will die, and Starcraft 2 will become a tiny niche just like Starcraft 1. I don't want to see that happen, but it will if western tournaments keep inviting Koreans to dominate and take all the money.

progamers don't play for money.

if they wanted money they can work at mcdonalds and make 99% more than any north american "pro".

progamers play for competition and because they genuinely love the game. if you play sc2 to make money and to dodge top competition, then you're a loser that's making probably 15k a year when you could make more at mcdonalds.

I'm getting pretty depressed by this attitude.

Last I checked we were trying to call this an e-SPORT, as in a competition. If we're going to not have the best players... why bother trying to call it a sport? It's been raging for ages with people saying that the Koreans really aren't the best.

Well, 6 of them came to MLG, 3 of them made top 3, two of the others were knocked out by one of those 3....

They're better. Why should worse players win lots of money? Because you like them more for playing worse?

I'm not sure if I even agree that one can take away "Koreans > Rest of World" from this tournament. This is simply one tournament out of lots of tournaments that there are. Last MLG we saw Naniwa, a European, beat out everyone in an convincing fashion. In the TSL3 the Koreans were all eliminated quickly.

Koreans are in the top 3 positions here, but that doesn't make them automatically the best. It just means they did very well this tournament and that's what we should take from it. Only if they start dominating all foreign tournaments can we state that Koreans > Rest of World.

And, unfortunately, once "Koreans > Rest of World" becomes true, the game will become much less popular in Europe and America.

They are currently the best. This can't be denied. They have a way better infrastructure currently than the USA or Europe. But with MLG and having the Koreans play against the foreigners, the infrastructure in both will get better and the skill cap will close.

the West got into SC2 because it's the sequel to SC1

The western scene exploded because western players finally had a chance in competition. When that changes the scene will die.

The foreign scene will never get better if they don't get to play the best.

So you would rather the foreign skill level stay the same than rise higher above by playing Koreans

Meh, it could happen. I could see an argument both ways, actually. Sports (not just eSports) that a country is not good at slowly fades out of popularity in that country, which means less tournaments, which means less skill and talent. It's like a vicious cycle. People like their own country's players. BW never went beyond a niche scene in the West with a viewership in the mere thousands. WC 3, however, had a huge following in Europe because of stars like Grubby.

Which path will SC 2 take? I think it remains to be seen. I don't think we should judge based on one MLG though.

MC at Copenhagen and Dreamhack lol. Now going to Shanghai for the ro4 of the 8400 Stars Wars tournament basically right after this. Poor dude will be so fucked up from jetlag. I'm curious to see how Dreamhack Summer goes. TSL was on online cross-server tournament, almost everyone but MC hates them. I mean, Nestea got 2-1'd by Ddoro in a cross-server tourney.

Its suprising the amount of people that have this attitude, i have heard similair comments in LR threads a number of times, people like that dont deserve to be in the starcraft community, starcraft wouldnt be what it is today without korea and koreans.

Idra already said he won't go to Korea, not for code A nor code S. In Korea you basically only play the GSL while there's a lot more oppurtunities in the US and Europe

Yea i wouldn't want to play in the NFL and play for $50,000 when i can dominate the CFL and win the $250 prize pools. The only prize pools worth anything in the US are the MLG overall championship and blizzcon and the koreans will come to win those.

Thats the problem with the north american players, they want to settle for lesser leagues because becoming the best takes too much work.

I think idra doesnt want to go back to korea because he got run out the first time because of his attitude is my guess.

He didn't get run out -.-.. He said the scene is easier to succeed here instead of playing in one hard tournament.

Between NASL, IEM, Dreamhack, and MLG, the prize pool for foreign events is bigger than that of the GSL. Korea has their own smaller tournaments, I realize, but I believe the two scenes are pretty equal in terms of prize pool, and the foreign scene is much easier. It makes a lot more sense to stay in the US, where you were _born_, than to live in a foreign country where you'll probably end up making less money.

Foreigners can say goodbye to easy money. If koreans start invading western lans foreigners are gonna be bankrupt soon.

or learn to be better gamer...

Won't happen, if Koreans start coming to major western tournaments then western e-sports will die. They will just dominate everything, the scene will get stagnant and boring, and that will be it.

So we just disallow Koreans and crown paper champions?

OH LOOK! IDRA WINS MLG ANAHEIM! HE'S THE BEST IN THE WORLD!

If the Koreans aren't allowed to come, every champion will just be a paper champion that won't be considered the best because of the competition. If the foreigners want to get better, they need to play the best in the world.

They can come if they pay their own way. What makes me sick is we are paying their way to kill our own scene. Koreans will take all the major money from this MLG. That is gonna really hurt the scene. Do you think Thorzain and Naniwa will pay their way to come to the next MLG to watch the Koreans take it all again? How about the MLG after that? It will quickly kill the scene with the Koreans winning everything.
That's how I roll!
