Quebec gets the shaft again, but it's most likely due to our different age of majority/gambling type laws, which allow us to legally drink and whatnot before everyone else in Canada.

That said, I'm glad I still officially have newfoundland residency and papers from when I lived there. ^___^

Anyone planning on advancing out of their group through just WO wins? If you get the right group, you could easily be top 2 just by showing up... even if you lose every time you actually do play...

Could you please point out wich law forbids you to accept Quebec's resident ? We could then at least try to change those in the futur on our side.

Indeed, it has to do with charity and contest laws in the province of Quebec. When planning national contests, companies are confronted with a unique set of rules and regulations in order to include Quebec. The Regie des Loteries et Courses du Quebec requires long preparation times and fees for approval. As a result a great number of national contests promoted by national brands exclude the province of Quebec.

http://www.free-news-release.com/The-burning-issue-of-Quebec-s-exclusion-from-North-American-contests--Detail_1302.html

They don't want to pay.

But, if I have a friend in US, can I write is adress and still play in the tournament?

Quebec Sweepstakes Law Encourages Sweepstakes Void in Quebec
The reason why residents of Quebec are not eligible to enter many Canada sweepstakes is not because the sponsors don't want to advertise in Quebec, and it's nothing personal against any of the residents of that fine province. Rather, many sweepstakes are void in Quebec because the sponsors must follow a stringent set of rules set out by the Quebec government.

For example, in order for sponsor to skip the "void in Quebec" restriction, Quebec sweepstakes law requires that the sponsors must do some or all of the following things:

Register the sweepstakes rules and all advertisements used to promote the contest with the Quebec government at least 30 days ahead of the sweepstake's launch.
Pay a fee of up to 10% of the sweepstake's value, depending on who is allowed to enter.
Agree to allow the government of Quebec to mediate any lawsuits arising from the contest.
Follow strict guidelines about the contents of the sweepstakes rules.
Allow the Quebec government to determine if the sweepstake may be changed or canceled once it has started.
File a written report after the contest has concluded, attesting that the prizes have been delivered or attempted to be delivered.
Agree to follow a number of other rules and guidelines. See the Quebec Sweepstakes Laws.

While these laws are intended to protect the citizens of Quebec, they are also a significant burden of money and resources to sweepstakes sponsors, and the consequences for a mistake are severe. Rather than run the risk of facing legal action if these long and complicated rules are not followed to the letter, many sponsors take the easy route of making their contests void in Quebec.

i got way excited when i read the title. I didn't realize that their were talking two seperate tourneys and not in the golf way where a pro/am is two pros teamed up wioth two amatures and they play a round. I thought maybe they were doing a pro/am 2v2 tourney.

Glad to see big sponsors getting involved with everybody. I just got way excited about a possible team tourney like that.

Quebec isn't included because they have a bunch of ridiculous requirements, Usually something involving their equally retarded province making some sort of profit, in order for anybody to be allowed to host anything there.

It's been this way for a long, long time and it's likely to remain that way for even longer of a time.
They really just dont' want to be a part of Canada and that's a reality that they are never going to obtain.

It kind of sucks for anybody living there, Time to move somewhere else

Anybody complaining about the prize pool should know that $5000 is the max you can offer as a tournament prize before you have to start doing paperwork and other such requirements with Blizzard in order to have a larger prize.
Rather than going through all of that they are probably just opting to use the near maximum amount they are allowed to see how the tournament is recieved and how well it goes overall.

I couldn't care less if the prize pool was less. This is a great thing geforce is doing. How many tournaments do you know that offers amateurs a chance to play a round robin like a season? Unlike other tournaments, this tournament, you receive a personal rating, a record, and you get to play alot of games even though you suck. I hope geforce would make more tournaments like this afterwards.

The problem is that its hard to define pro or amateur. Is a pro someone exclusively on contract, or is it based on skill? There are uncontracted players like Kas for example who is a top player outside korea. There aee too many distinxtions

Xeris, a pro in this sense is just a player that was given an invitation or filled out an application and was accepted.

If a player isn't given an invite then he/she can register for the open (amateur) tournament.

There are more pros than we can include... its physically impossible to invite every pro SC2 player. And we can't stop them from entering the open tournament.

Fairly easy to understand I believe.
