Despite there's already another thread about this competition, we are creating this in order to give players full feedback and support. Consider this one as the official thread.
Torneo ESL Starcraft 2 (In English, ESL Starcraft 2 Tourney) is a new Starcraft 2 competition located in Spain, developed by ESL Spain with Campus Party as strategical partner (one of the biggest lanparties in the world and main digital entertainment encounter) that will have 9350€ in prizes (aprox 13370$).
In 2011 first edition of this Tourney will take place at Campus Party event in Valencia, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, specially in Summer. This event will be held in Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias, a cute location in this city (check pictures), near the sea and the city center, with tons of malls and bars where you can enjoy not only of good Starcraft 2 matches.
Final stage: 16 players, at Campus Party (offline).

We will give you support (when possible) through this thread, or just open a ticket via ESL support system..
Final stage will be broadcasted (still no details about this). Qualifiers not sure if they will be broadcasted.

Hm what is the reason to limit the number of participants to three non-spanish players? Considering that Spain hasn`t really superstar players (even thiough Vortix and Lucifron have potential but both are not really active) there is a huge risk that this tourney will fall under the radar like the UGC in Italy.

I would totally agree with you if this would be 'another' SC2 tournament. But this is made to improve SC2 scene in Spain, and make it grow. Thats why wei give more slots to only spanish qualifiers. Despite we want to improve spanish SC2 community, we also wanna show them there are countries with a very high level, and thats why we open an international qualifier, so some good players from the outside come here and make them hard being in the top, so this will be a challenge for them. Hope this explanation, despite it won't make you happy, will make you understand
AFAIK Lucifron and Vortix (and many others) are gonna train hard for this event
|
|
Ugh, had it been anywhere in the north I would make the effort to attend. But being in Valencia and with a limit of 3 non spanish players there is really no reason to spend that many hours in a bus. Are tehre plans for any casting/streaming both in english and spanish?

It seems like many qualifier matches are being played tomorrow, some big names too. great stuff.
How did you guys decide on seeding? Some Go4SC2 alltime ranking?

You need to get a good english casters, this event will be sick

Looking at these seeds I'm especially curious about how Thorzain got first seed. He is place 174 in the all time Go4Sc2 Cup ranking, was "only" 3rd in the EPS Nordic he played and didn't attend IEM. So apparently his TSL performance influenced his seed?!
|
|
Wow, that venue looks crazy. Some really interesting architecture and I like how the water goes right up the island buildings. This event should be sick.
Thorzain fighting~!

Gomas fighting!

Socke, hasuobs an thorzain were the ones that qualified trough the international tournament?
Any news of noteable players attending the lan qualifier?

Hello.
I tried to find out where there will be a tourney/stream schedule. I can't understand spanish. Maybe someone else can help me/us.
I just find that "Finals will take place in Campus Party Valencia, 14-17 July, you must travel there if you qualify for them".
So finals will start tomorrow? This seems to be the page, where livecontent will be shown. http://www.campus-party.org/live/
You have to register? is it free? when will be SC2 shown? The only thing i could find is that "enterate" says 15th of july 12 o'clock. ?!
Do they really have that big prizepool but aren't in want to stream the games to viewers outside of the local audience?
|
I think they're determining the remainig 3 players for the tournament by the LAN qualifier (link) right now. This tournament is almost finished. Hopefully the main tournament will start right after that. But I guess that still doesn't mean that we'll get to see any games. As RobertoLL pointed out, the calendar indicates that the first SC2 games might be streamed tomorrow.
HasuObs, who is attending the tournament, often updates his facebook page with results for the tournaments he's playing in, so you could have a look at his page for some information.
edit: Registering is toatally free and after registering you are able to watch a couple of streams with different themes but I doubt that the SCII streams (if there are any) will be in english.
edit2: HasuObs: "it starts on friday around 12CET i believe. i have no idea about streams yet."
|
"Starcraft II vie, 15 de julio, 12:00 – 20:00"
it seems like it begins july 15th at 12:00 CET

edit: looks like SC2 is being streamed from 3am - 11 on Friday and finales/games from 230pm-330 friday. Also looks like some finals for some games on saturday but don't know if that's for sc2. Also don't know what time zone is for -__-

Where are they are going to be shown? Any streams?

If this was a tourney in China I would understand it better, the lack on information in english is very strange.
You said you wanted this to grow...If Dreamhack only was for swedes it would be a small event, now its not.
Well, best of luck.
|
yeah, I am from spain, and I hate the lack of english information as well. If anyone needs a partial translation from the site or whatever just ask for it, I can translate.

Dont understand why esl aupport this tournament

Two streams are online right now "Main Stage" and "Entertainment". On which stream will the SCII games be broadcasted? The group stage should have started 15 min, right?
There are some gamers on the Entertainment stream setting up their PCs right now, but I don't recognize anyone of them (maybe no SCII players).

Hey,
maybe you can still find a english commentator for tommorow or later on today? From the top of my head you could ask the two starcraft casters for the german ESL: Rotterdam or Take. Both have experience casting in english and are associated with ESL.

I caught game 2 and 3. Game 2 Thorzain 2 raxed on Xel Naga and held supply lead till mid game when he won. Game 3, Death did a baneling bust counter and got way ahead in scv/bases and eventually won. Not really cheese

|
There is a three-way-tie in group C between Socke, majok and SaJeR. Socke beat SaJeR but lost to majok, who lost against SajeR. All three of them won against EmPiRes and all of them have the same score difference. So who will advance? I guess they need to play tiebreakers?
edit: Update from HasuObs' facebook page: alright. groupstage is almost done. i finished first in my group 3-0. socke finished first aswell 2-1. thorzain managed to place first aswell, but he had to play tiebreak games, kinda close ^^
i face Sajer in the quarter, socke faces lolvsxd and thorzain will play against lucifron or vortix!
|
Looks like Socke beat lolvsd to advance.
|
He did, and Hasu beat SaJeR.
|
Does anyone know how the tiebreakers worked? looks like my cousin got knocked out of Group A in the tiebreak
|
The tie breaker was a bo1 series Nara vs Deathfate, Nara vs Thorzain, Thorzain vs Deathfate.
Thorzain won both and Deathfate won against Nara.
They had to do a tiebreaker because all games was 2-1, In group C there wasn't the same score in all series, so the individual points for each map make Sajer and Socke advance and Majok to be 3º.
|
So, it was a long night for both staff and players yesterday.

It's a good investment when you have 3+ expos, 80+ drones to put spore+spine so you don't need to pay attention to them. If you have good multitasking maybe you can avoid it, but you see it even at highest pro level, so I guess it's worth it.

Wow, did you guys see the shot of the players? they are sitting right next to each other! Someone forgot to remove close positions irl
You really need to admire their mental control for not accidentally glancing to their opponents monitor.

There was a place in between.
By the way, this is 3rd/4th place match

Nice payday for both of them.
Also I am happy for Hasu, because he lost many important matches narrowly in the past.

Yay, 7 games of PvP! Grats to Hasu and Socke.

3º place to Lucifron, 4º to Vortix

Lucifrom and vortix did pretty good. I wonder why they don't compete internationally. I guess they're still young so maybe schools in the way? But that's never been a problem for lucifron in the past...

"The Brothers Moreno Duran" LuCifroN and VortiX should play more international events..

Vortix just finished high school so he was pretty busy recently, lucifron is in college so he is busy too. They dont play that much but now that is summer they will play more ^^

Does anyone know how they will decide who came 5-6th and who came 7-8th from the losers of the quarters? Because they get a different amount of prize money.

They did consolation matches, LolvsxD vs Sajer that was streamed was a consolation match
