Hopefully the next seasons provide a little more incentive for people to get excited. As it is I think a lot of players will just skip this and snipe the smaller tournaments as the prize pools from those will add up. It's hard to get hyped for a prize pool of this size, with none of the oh so popular TL players and, barring DJWheat, no real high end casting. Do people just not know how to read? The "prize pool" question must have been answered 20 times by now. Also in response to Travis and others who asked about future seasons: "Season one of the IGN Pro League, 16 of the best North American StarCraft II players from 9 different clans are competing for USD $5,000. In addition to the cash prize, these players are attempting to win one of four spots qualifying them for USD $50,000 in Season two!"

Eh, I dont think thats the reason at all. IGN is mainly in the US so its logical to start with US player. Easier to do promo video (like the trailer), scheduling etc. TB is an excellent choice I think. He's professional, has a good voice and he can make the game exciting even to casual and non-sc2 watchers.

What about Europeans living in the US, then? The tournament aspires to include world class players. This is the first season so they localized it.

Love the set up, love the video, love the future plans. Love Totalbiscuit (I was watching him casting a tournament in Italy during MLG breakdown)!! Do not listen to the haters, he can bring in more mainstream gamers then lose sc2 hipsters. EDIT: I just hope TB can lose some weight if he is going to be on "TV" regularly. At the moment he is nothing like his picture and I am sorry to say but he is not easy to look at (at least judging by the tourny in Italy) although his voice is as good as ever (normally).

Or will the broadcast schedule be like TSL with matches on saturday and sunday? A double elimination tournament with every match being cast takes quite a while! It won't be every day of the week but it be more then two.

A: Unfortunately with a set of 16 players, we had to make hard choices and decisions about who we extended invites to. Some popular players did have conflicts with the scheduling or did not want to participate, and there was not much we could do that about. We feel like we have a strong range of players that have different play styles and will provide entertaining matches. We hope to see the popular players we weren't able to extend an invitation to excel in the IPL 2 qualifiers and participate next season! I'm going to assume that you're directly saying "Tyler said he couldn't do it" rather than dodging the question. Because a league debuting without Team Liquid needs a really good reason for it considering their dominance and general exposure. It's also really, really hard to say that you have a "strong range" when you have 4 from EG and 4 from ROOT. That's half of your number of invites from only two teams when you're trying to make it a big deal that 9 teams are involved. Don't get me wrong, the players are all pretty good, but there just seems to be some inconsistency there.

They have one of the most popular and well known casters from Europe in TotalBiscuit, one of the most veteran recognized YouTube casters in HD, yet another extremely well-known live caster from the USA in DJ Wheat, and to round it out, a very well known and respected professional player in Painuser. I don't know how much more diverse and "in-touch" they can get with offering every flavor of caster available, all with proven commentary backgrounds and tens of thousands of followers.

Sure Spades, Agh, Machine and ViBe are good players, but to pick them up instead of players like Tyler, TLO and HayprO seems a little misguided, especially when ROOT, EG and Dignitas all have at least one player (in 2 of those, 4 or more). To exclude one of the most consistent teams seems rather perplexing when you also consider how popular they are. I can already tell you that many of the Round 1 games will have smaller showings simply because there seems to be only one big name in each match (or two less well known names). Adding a few Liquid players would have brought a lot more interest to the tournament.
