So let's see...

1st: NaNiwa (26-2)
2nd: KiWiKaKi (16-4)
3rd: SeleCT (10-5)
4th: iNControL (8-6)

Is that right? inControL actually placed 4th out of over 200 people by going 8-6? Really? This format favoring the top seeds is just terrible. And NaNiwa played so many more games, it would've been a travesty had he not won it in the end.

In his defense, those 6 losses came from much more competent progamers than the 20 wins of NaNiwa while he was tearing up the open bracket.

NaNiwa defeated the following during the open bracket

Drakke
Mattman333
sung123
----- Progamers Appear ------
Pokebunny
Tri_Master
Sijax_VIBE

iNControL I would argue could provide similar results had he gone through the same bracket, possibly not 2-0 in each game, but defiantly a win in each.

As for the format, although it isn't perfect, the best change I can think of would be to change way the pools worked. With 5 people in each group, let the top 4 from each get seeded into a double elimination Ro16, using the results from the groups and previous results in the case of ties.

Naniwa definitely won the tournament by outclassing his opponents in the tournament and going through a ridiculous 24 game winning streak.

However, I lost quite a bit of respect for Naniwa after an incident in the first game between Naniwa and Tri_Master. The game was on Xel Naga and Naniwa decided to proxy 10 gate in Tri_Master (T)'s main. The game began to lag right as it started and the lag spikes got a bit worse as the game went along, but stabilized after a while. Naniwa planted his pylon outside of Tri_Master's base but missed his pylon by 1 or 2 grids, thus when he tried to place a gateway inside of Tri_Master's base, he failed. Instead of asking for a pause earlier in the game when the lag was terrible, he kept playing and once his proxy failed, Naniwa immediately left the game without permission and requested a regame. Somehow, he was granted one when it was absolutely bullshit.

Select isn't WC3

Indeed.

SelecT played Dawn of War.
TLO played Supreme Commander.
HuK played Company of Heroes.

Believe it or not, there are other RTS games beside BW and WC3.

Does anyone know how to watch games after the fact? I'd love to see HuK vs. IdrA rematch, but can't seem to find out how to watch. Not sure where else to post this.

SeleCT did play WC3 for a while for SK-gaming. He did switch over to DoW later on.

Oh wow. That's quite interesting. I guess talent really does transfer over between RTS games.

I also heard somewhere about HuK being on Canada's BW B-team, though I don't know specifics. TLO also played a bit of BW, though apparently he was mainly playing Sup Com shortly before starting SC2.

Tournaments unsung heroes: aka how damn hard the open bracket is.

FXOSheth : I can't see his entire set of results but potentially only dropped 4 games in the entire tournament. 22-4 (if he dropped no games besides his 2 losses)

First he was knocked into the Loser's bracket in the 3rd round by Pokebunny on Day 1, but came back and beat mirhi, vVvMurder, Trimaster (guy who beat Catz), Kawaiirice, sixjax.Dde, and FXOqxc only to be placed against HuK and lose.

FXOMoonan: goes 22-6 after being knocked into the Loser's bracket in round 5 of day 1 by HuK.

Beats Naama in round 4 but gets knocked into LB by HuK on Day 1. Then claws his way back by beating Naama again, then Hawk, Spades, Agh, Mihai, Machine, Slush, only to fall to Socke. Finishes top 8, which is pretty phenomenal.

Sheth is baller, I'm sad he got eliminated out of top 16, but honestly it was a good run by him Some mistakes on a 4gate game and all your hopes are crushed, too bad...

Dont you think he would get owned if he cheesed his way through? That would be very, very predictable. Just saying.

Isnt he known as a cheeser...
figured id ask

Do more research before you start accusations. Sure, the guy one based a lot and that was a long time ago. Believe what you want. It takes a lot of skill and class to do what he did in 3 long days of competition. He played exceptionally well all the way to the final. Don't shit on a thread because you have beef with a guy's style a while back.

The guy has proven he has what it takes and isn't a one trick pony.

Oh im sorry kiddo, did you struggle with english in grade school? You do realize I asked a question right? You do understand the difference between asking a question and making an accusation right?

...

I'm pretty sure I'm older than you, but nice try. I know your kind very well.

You can keep up that tirade all you want around here. I'm sure it will get you far.

Take it elsewhere.

Calm down StarStruck, he really just asked a question, and you made an assumption that he intended a flamewar. If your so old, you should know that assumptions are bad for you.

And congrats too

Naniwa, looking forward to the replays. I for one find PvP fun, atleast when Im playing. So much intense micro and action right from the start. Love that shit. Hope to see some nice 3 gate defense from naniwa.
