a mix of mediocre pool and a "lucky" (in the sense tlo didnt fucking scout lol and had poorly build to handle the vray) 2-0 over tlo by all ins.

O.o That's insane. Compare that to Naniwa going 24-0 to be at the same spot. What was the argument for pool play again? Oh yah, so they could always stream TOP games...oh the hilarity.

or compare it to kiwikaki going 4-0 vs Huk, Idra, Socke and Gretorp while Incontrol goes 3-1 vs mihai, TLO, Painuser and Slush.
The format is really stupid. It continues now in the championship bracket. Sheth and qxc have to go through Huk, Idra and Ret whilst Moonan and Agh will have to beat Mihai, Machine and Slush. Also I find it wierd that you can get top 16 even though u went 1-3 in group.(Ret) Same as Idra getting top 12 for 2-2.

Overall it's a great thing with seeds and the pool imo, but I agree with these guys the difference between seed vs open bracket is insane. (NASL is even worse though).

NASL is so much better in that regard.

Are you joking?

-Seed is not based on previous events (only on application and subjective selection) (some players seeded into division play haven't won anything, and barely participated in events prior to nasl)
-the open bracket is 1 spot for 1000 participants.

Select vs. Incontrol

I guess that the first winner brackets matchup is a bit of a "grudge match". Acording to Incontrol won't Select speak to him after that affair at last years MLG.

I had forgotten that lol.

Should be interresting.

What happend last MLG?

Select had some special TvP build he dismantled pretty much every protoss with that event. On some SotG Incontrol said that this build (obivously) isn't going to work forever and he'll start losing games with it or something... People blew that way out of proportion (SotG-thread ho!) and said incontrol was talking shit about select, saying that he's a horrible player, bla bla.
somehow word got to select and now he's pissed or something

i think that was the reason(?)

You forgot the live cast with DJ Wheat in the hotel room. Incontrol was talking shit about select with some gestures...
So I hope Select will answer that in-game! :D

And slasher started arguing with Incontrol about Select during the cast. The podcast ended with some people entering the room and someone saying that Select plays like shit.

I am not young enough to know everything.

Maybe you're just completely fucking wrong and have no idea whether he's good or not.

I've watched his stream for hours, I think I have a pretty good gage on how strong he is. But you are right, I'm just basing myself on him getting his ass handed to him by 3800 masters consistently. Maybe better players brings out his best. Thanks for helping lose my illusion.

Well he earned his spot in pool play (well...someone quit and he got bumped up 1 place from 17th seed into 16th) and actually yeah funnily enough people do play a lot different in LAN settings than on the ladder, and Inc has always said he thrives at LAN settings.

The point is round robin pool play is a lot better than the old, simpler format for determining better players. You can argue that it's unfair on the players who have to make it through the open bracket first and I would agree, in fact even iNcontroL would agree (on SotG he commented that it's a ridiculous number of games to play and if you win the tournament you're going to spit on the cheque they hand you and just demand a glass of water). But Naniwa, who you used as an example, didn't exactly have to pound through an open bracket full of champions.

He didn't have to pound through "champions" in the open bracket, but after he was done winning the open bracket (like 8 straight bo3's I think) he STILL had to win his group and go 4-0 in it, which isn't easy

I already agreed it's too hard on players in the open bracket.

Assuming he gets lucky with PvP.
Will this be restreamed at the conclusion of the awards? Cause its a work day in aus tomoro :/

I doubt he can beat Select, InControl's group has been kind of an odd duck in otherwise super stacked groups. But as a mainly protoss player I would be pleasantly surprised

yeah, same here. I understand the format, but its still take sometimes to figure out who is in where. Very confusing, hope MLG will change the format since this format may take people's interest away untill very later rounds.

PS: I though GSL format was complex, I was wrong.

As far as one player having to go through "easy" players is concerned we see that in every tournament including the GSL, IEM, TSL. That's not really format specific at all. Many claimed Jinro had an easy run when he made it to GSL semis.
This format does kind of suck in a newer league, aka current MLG for Starcraft 2, but as a spectator this format would be pretty awesome once established. Just pretend this is GSL players and pool play is code S and open bracket is code A. At least open bracket players have a chance to win the tournament in this format. Few people seem to complain about the huge advantage code S players get over code A players (literally insurmountable in a single season.)

NASL has said that the bottom third (16/50) gets dumped and replaced by players from opens every season. That's better than even GSL, in which a maximum of a fourth of Code S (8/32) can get demoted to Code A each season. Of course there are problems with the first season, but those will be rectified by a few seasons of relegation and promotion from opens.

He didn't have to win his group, he could just as easily gone 0-4 and still been in the running. It would be harder (looks like 10 BO3 from worst position in championship loser bracket to winner of tournament), but because he played so well in group play he now only needs to win 3 BO3 to win everything. There was also 6 BO3 in a row needed to get into the group stages, not 8.
Bad manners are better than no manners at all.

Ok, thanks for clearing that out! I did only see the way they were going about it the first season when I read about it in the first interviews and faq - missed the update I guess.
