Yeah, I was actually wondering has he actually dropped a game the whole time through the Open Brackets and perhaps the Championship pool as well? Pretty sure nani went 20-0 today. that is pretty insane... hopefully we see a kiwi vs nani matchup.
Nah he actually dropped a game to Machine (I couldnt find any other loss). But mad props to Machine for taking a game off the Owl with meaty legs (who the eff even came up with that name for the smurf account).

EG's twitter confirms machine fell 0-2

Nevertheless, this will be my last MLG event. You know its bad when my impromptu "LAN plz!" sign gets more attention than the main stage. All for a meager top prize of $5,000 USD when MLG makes like 20million in income?
I hope Blizzard adds LAN soon and NASL does things better.
Yeah MLG really should Increase the prize money for all the games, Im in Dallas for Halo:Reach, and I'm watching as much sc2 on the side as i can because its awesome... but sc2 players make as much as individual Halo players, and Halo is suppose to be MLG's BIG game, the entry fees alone are enough to pay for the prize money and with like 9k to spare, and who knows whats going on with the Sponsorship money, Prizes for these events need to be increased if MLG wants to help E-Sports become more popular in North America.

</3 TL The whining is completely justified imo, MLG has a history of terrible streaming problems. They failed again on the first day, the other times i've seen they got their shit together for the second and subsequent days (that finals misshap the only exception) but today was even worse. There was a total of half of one series and half of a game of another seriesthat were live games streamed today. The only thing else we got was one and two thirds of another series cast via replay. This was over what 10 hours or something? To say that they failed is ignoring some important facts that they've already explained. It's not THEM, it's the ISP, which is largely out of their control. What do you want them to do? Start digging into the ground and putting in more cables for bandwidth? But don't look at it in the logical manner, no, just blindly blame them for this problem because everyone else is doing it.
They picked venue, they knew upspeed ahead of time. At least pick venues with dedicated 1 gig up/down fiber connections. Or partner with the convention centers to have fibre brought in. Its not that expensive when youre banking $20 m yearly revenue. That's what they need tbh. 38 mbit? This is paltry some TL users have triple the bandwidth in their own homes.

Huk Tyler Mihai and HayprO all going to have a big match first thing tomorrow. Winner gets top 16 and secures pool seed and greatly increases odds of making championships I think.

There was a Tweet made by MLG saying that they made some Updates to the stream so hopefully it will be all better for tomorrow, Sundance said he expected this event to have the most viewers on the stream ever, Also for anyone who got a HQ pass they can have a full refund or have it credited for the next event, Columbus, OH in June.

What's the hindsight is 20/20 crap?
MLG didn't know they were going to need a reliable internet connection with enough bandwidth before they booked the venue? Since when is it not in MLG's control to contact the ISP that will be used before signing a contract with a venue to determine if they can handle the internet traffic for an event that is 100% dependent on the internet. Are you really arguing that MLG didn't know they were going to need a solid, reliable internet feed/ISP ahead of time?

Revenue does not reflect how much money they have after expenses are paid off. From what Sundance said on sotg, MLG does not seem to be a very profitable organization.

38mbit was the upper number one of the dudes i was yappin with came up with- he said assume 3-8mbit for the LQ+HQ MLG stream per stream (4 streams x3to8) plus the upload from playing the sc2 games, which varied in concurrent amount practically to the second- that was the number he came up with... I agree, banking 20M a year, even if they laid the fibre cable above ground to jack into some kind of hub (i have limited understanding of how fibre connection actually works ((its the mirrors!))) - i don't think any of the spectators would have minded at all (even the halo / cod guys kept coming over to watch sc2)...
so many halo and cod guys kept coming over to watch sc2- on friday evening i actually explained basic mechanics to a COD clan who were watching VTwhiplash play ((sorry whiplash if they were loud, i tried to explain to them that it could be distracting))... they were genuinely interested, too; whiplash has been wearing that CJ Entus jacket at MLG, and one of the dudes asked me what CJ was- and i just told him they were a BW korean team ((i admit, i dont know much about the BW scene, so that was the best i could do))... and i didnt waste any breath on explaining the korean scene to them, either...
even one of the secondary FFA stage caster dudes mentioned the importance of SC2... he said, and i quote directly, "damn, these starcraft fans are cheering for their open bracket players. they are actually proud to be starcraft fans! wtf halo?" that guy made my night...

Revenue takes into account production costs so I really don't think that matters that much. If they spent 50 million and made 70 million ... their profit is 20 mill. If they spent 100 mill and made 120 their profit is 20 mill ... not that much of a difference ultimately imo.
Edit: I double checked and I'm wrong. Revenue doesn't take into account expenses.

it isn't. the fact that after 8 years, they continue to go around fund raising and engaging in venture capitalism means that they aren't a self sustaining organization. they've actually become totally owned and branded by their corporate sponsors at this point.
anyway, they have 10 million dollars coming to them real real soon (quarter 1 of 2011). by the way if anyone can please answer, when it says that MLG has received 52.5 million dollars in funds in some of the articles going around the internet, is that 52.5million the amount they raised for 2011 or in their past 8 years collectively?
edit: MLG's financial situation really got me interested so did some digging and found some interesting articles. one of which says that their most recent partnership with IMG which got them 10 million dollars in funds, comes with a catch. IMG's responsibilities: "IMG will focus on marketing the league in the UK, Germany, France, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil as well as in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe". So now we know why they're going international. however.. "Revenue from the partnership will be split 50-50 between IMG and the league". THAT is not going to help at all either. MLG really desperate if they're willing to give up 50% royalty / equity. ouch they're going to have to sell a lot of t-shirts.

Sundance said on SotG that they lose money every year they do MLG. So no, they don't have some huge budget to throw around like you people think they do. They did what they thought would be sufficient at the time, but their numbers were under and they had a server overload that was henceforth out of their control. My hindsight is 20/20 comment refers directly to this concept.

It sounds like having to refund ppl who paid for the HQ stream is gonna hurt a lot then ... obviously depending on how much they would have raked from that source. I'm interested in knowing how much they would have made from HQ stream buyers vs ticket buyers.
