Great first day

Infact i think BoxeR DCing (or whoever it was who dced) was a good thing to happen as it shows people who are bashing the "omg replays fuck this" that it has many advantages not just getting rid of cheaters.

Had this been live and Boxer DC'ed it would have been a massive disaster because then the games might have been postponed or the wrong decision might have been made.

Instead you got a pretty meaty topic about it, with plenty of evidence and arguments for doing it and the tournament resumed shortly.

I've already asked in the opening day preview thread, but I guess here's a better chance this gets answered:

Does anyone have the counterpart to this picture?

The one with Thorzain, Fenix, Nightend and Strelok

Would love to make a TSL3 wallpaper collection with all the players. :D

It would be just cruel to have these casted live, the cheating part aside, think about it:

FD gets up at 3am, warms up, starts playing at 4am
TZ plays during prime time, has to drop off any other tournaments happening in the weekend.
Artosis would never cast

Vulnerability to delays and early disconnects, eventually running out of time and stressing the players of the following matches. Casters also get tired.

Artosis has to get up at 3am regardless because its casted live whether the game is replay or not

Yes. "despite the lag, i won"

Seeds get the latency. This was told on State of the Game Podcast. My guess was the FD was seeded above Thorzain and still played badly and lost.

He also said the lat is alterned between each game, so game 1 the highest seed got the lat, game 2 the other and game 3 go back the the highest seed

So for 2/3 of his games he had home turf and still lost? He played badly and Thorzain out played him, just because a korean loses to a relatively unknown foreigner the main talking point is lag for the Korean players.

But he also didn't play well at all. His macro was.. garbage to say the least. I can macro better than that. I dunno what' sup with him, isn't he playing anymore?

Lol trust me when I say, latency effects your gameplay as a whole, completely makes you play like trash all game, and makes you want to end the game asap due to the lag. And if the rumors are true about the lag being much worse due to the quakes, it would have been much much worse

I am pretty disappointed that it's all replay casts. I do understand the major issue of potential cheating, but think that the top 32 playing in such a tournament should be trusted to a bigger amount, even though I acknowledge that TL has made a bad experience regarding this.

I know that there are many people who think otherwise, but also a lot of people sharing my point of view: Replaycasts are plain boring. Seeing something that happened some random time in the past is something totally different than seeing it live and emphazising with the players, which is totally impossible when seeing it in the knowledge of "it's just a replay.". For a good, tense game, I want to feel with my stars and not just think "I wonder how he feels right now about the game he played yesterday", come on...
I don't understand this. Granted, I might have a different perspective, since I know a bit about the logistical nightmares behind everything. That aside though, I cannot imagine anyone watching the stream and constantly thinking about the fact that it's a replay. Once it's started and the casters have really gotten into it it makes no difference to me.

It has also been discussed to death internally and live is not an option, period

Edit: I can understand people who don't want to watch matches of which they already know the result (and I know people who usually don't watch VODs for that reason, either live or not at all), but this is different imho. No one except the players and a few people in the administration knows the result, so it's very much a live experience, everyone still sees it at the same time (so it's not like watching a recorded soccer match or whatever). Just look at IRC during the cast for example...

Hoping for a player to make the right decision is a very different thought than hoping for a player to have made the right decision in the past. Rooting for one and emphasizing with him is almost impossible by the knowledge that the game is already over. Even though it's just an illusion, it gives a way different feeling of beeing connected to an event that is beeing played right now than one that's already written in stone.

I'm pretty surprised how much TL seems to be all fine with it beeing just a replaycast. On German Readmore.de the discussions so far whenever the topic came up previously were clearly sided for "Replay broadcasts are inferior" (not unanimously yet clearly).

Oh and don't mistake this for me demanding you to cast live. I know of the difficulties and abnormous work of coordination such an event can require, especially when it's about three timezones and delivering a smooth timetable. I do understand that you ultimately value the advantages of delivering a replay cast higher.
All I want to say is that this does not come without a price imo and that this is why live events have an edge in spirit.
When they were introduced, he made a witticism, hoping to be liked. She laughed extremely hard, hoping to be liked. Then each drove home alone, staring straight ahead, with the very same twist to their faces.

1/2, there was no 3rd game.

Anyways, disregarding lag, TZ played nicely, FD played the worst SC2 I've ever seen him play, no doubts about that. And I've seen him play GSLs, gisado's all star tourneys, and a lot more. He was really awful today.

And yes.. I'm SO SAD

I don't think they used replays just because of cheating, but also because it gives them a chance to increase the quality of the production value and coordinate things for the viewer a lot easier. The time of viewing is the obvious bonus. I think because it wasn't live, organizers and judges could operate with cooler heads instead of worrying about rushing everything in order to appease the live viewer as fast as possible. The resolution of the disconnect issue may not have gone as smoothly had the panel and organizers felt under the gun. Errors may have been made that could otherwise been avoided by simply using replays.

Not being able to "feel the players" is a small price to pay for the resulting bump in quality IMO.

Boxer's girlfriend just posted something interesting on her Twitter. (http://twitter.com/#!/GabrielaBoxeR) It seems like many cables that connect between Korea-US are lost due to the recent Earthquake. And after getting disconnected from the server BoxeR had a mad latency, his units responding 2 secs later he gave command. I think it also explains why Boxer didn't micro his marauders to kite probes and zealots in Game#2.

Yes... but he knows when it ends. A live cast could easily add another 3 or 4 hours of streaming.

Sad there was so much boxer hating posts. Wanting him to lose and saying he was over hyped and bad. Silence haters. He just beat his opponents with lag. Show respect to most venerated bonjwa of all of Starcraft.
I asked my friend how the ratio at a party was, he replied. "Let's just say for every guy there was two dudes."
