GRAND FINALS in 5 HOURS!

Quaterfinals & Semifinals Replays are up and can be downloaded here and here.

Read the latest pre-match interviews before the Grand Finals done by TAParoxysm, who also happens to be tied at the top of SEABet at #1!

+ Show Spoiler [FXOFilthy Interview] +

Paroxysm: At the start of the tournament, how far did you think you would go in the SEASL?

Filthy: I thought I would be pretty good chance to win it, was certainly my goal at least.

Paroxysm: Now that you've made it to finals, what are your expectations and how are you feeling in the leadup to your games?

Filthy: Well tvz is by far my best matchup, so I'm pretty confident for the grand final. For the semi final I was pretty unconfident because I've really been struggling with tvp lately, but it all turned out okay. Now that I'm past that I feel I should take down the gf.

Paroxysm: Alright, so you've got a pretty strong advantage then ?
Filthy: I'd like to think so.

Paroxysm: Along your SEASL journey, who was your hardest opponent? Were there any times where you thought you might be knocked out of the tournament?

Filthy: I'd say light in the group stage. I didn't really know how strong he was at the time but did manage to 2/1 him. He knocked me out at NRG the next week and really impressed me there.

Paroxysm: Did he surprise you with any builds that he played?
Filthy: No he just played quite standard really, more aggressive than aaron - which is what I face most on the korean server.

Paroxysm: How have you found this seasons SEASL and do you have any suggestions to help us run it better next season?

Filthy: No problems really, other than my sleeping schedule clashing with the last couple of games. As for improvments, maybe some new maps? But other than that it's been run really smoothly.

Paroxysm: Any special shoutouts that you would like to make to clan members/friends/practise partners/fans who have got you to this point?

Filthy: Thanks to FXO for the support and sending me to NRG last week, and thanks to Slog for some last minute prac today

Paroxysm: Alrightey, thanks for the interview, good luck in the finals.

Filthy: Thanks.

+ Show Spoiler [TAEdge Interview] +
Paroxysm: At the start of the tournament, before you were aware of the groups, how did you think you would go in the SEASL?

Edge: I felt really excited to show my play. I know people may not have seen much of me, since i play alot with just TA/friends and not too many tournies, so i was going in expecting to at least past group stages and say i made the round of 8.

Paroxysm: Now that you've made it to finals, what are your expectations and how are you feeling in the leadup to your games?

Edge: I'm expecting to win at least 1 game, but of course i hope to win. versus all my previous opponents, i have very positive records vs them and i was very confident, but this game is different. i've never versed filthy, and he seems to be on fire. I have alot of respect for his play and 3-0'ing ice is pretty intimidating. Just hope i can put on good games.

Paroxysm: Along your SEASL journey, who was your hardest opponent? Were there any times where you thought you might be knocked out of the tournament?

Edge: I think all my opponents where hard and i was nervous going into all of them, but redarchon was definitely my hardest. I was going in knowing i had a really good record vs him, but he can pull out some sick play. His 2 rax was executed so well and when 0-2 down i was just hoping to get 1 game. That 1 game became 2 games, and before you know it, i had made the comeback. I feel sorry because
i've been 2-0 up and lost 2-3 but all the congrats i got afterwards were awesome.

Paroxysm: Did he play any builds that caught you unaware? Was he surprising in any way?

Edge: His 2 rax i have faced before. It's a very mindgame based one. it's not about forcing a bunker or anything, but waiting and just walking around forcing units and keeping me guessing. Also his general style is a very 2 base heavy nonstop aggression. I caught on game 3 and won narrowly, but i realised after that what would work best versus his style and in game 4 i felt really comfortable.
his 2 rax which i have faced before was hard

Paroxysm: How have you found this seasons SEASL and do you have any suggestions to help us run it better next season?

Edge: I found it to work out pretty well. The voting system had it's questions asked obviously, but qualification was fair enough. The actual format was nicely done, as i liked the old broodwar starleague style. Everything went pretty smoothly, ice/jazbas situations were handled well and there wasnt any big problems. I think next season since voting won't be done anymore, we will start to see how it
progresses.

Paroxysm: Any special shoutouts that you would like to make to clan members/friends/practise partners/fans who have got you to this point?

Edge: Shoutouts to all of TA. In particular, i'd like to thank TARossi, TAdeth, TAmsiPinder, TASanchez, and inspirational words from TAdeL. I'd also like to thank aLtjimdiddy, nGenLight and nGenRefallen, and all my opponents i played because i'm pretty good friends with all of them. Thanks to everyone who has supported me, messages mean alot. Especially my fangirl JacziE!

Paroxysm: Ok! Good luck in the finals!

Edge: Thankyou! TA totes mcgee rockin it.

+ Show Spoiler [nGenBenji Interview] +
Paroxysm: As you are quite good at casting, how did you feel about casting the SEASL?

Benji: Its good to cast high level players, and only a few games a night as opposed to doing a 4+ hour cast with several rounds which are quite one sided. Games have all been pretty high level so far which is awesome, and casting alot of ZvZ is alot of fun.

Paroxysm: Did you find that they (the SEASL games) were based around intense micro, or did they pan out into long winded macro games?

Benji: A bit of both, most of the games went into the midgame at the very least, but even in macro games you need some solid micro to ensure you engage correctly during any battles

Paroxysm: Did you have a favourite game that you casted during this season's SEASL?

Benji: The entire Edge v Redarchon series was pretty good, indivual matches don't really strike me, but more each series as a whole.

Paroxysm: Were you backing either one of them in particular?

Benji: Well i am more friendly with Edge than Redarchon who i've never actually spoken to, so i was really happy for Edge when he came back from 0-2 to take the series 3-2

Paroxysm: How have you found this seasons SEASL and do you have any suggestions to help us run it better next season?

Benji: Its been a pretty good event, alot of good games, alot of viewers and some good exposure. As far as improving it, theres a few things but i'm sure the admins already know what they need to fix next season. More Australians in code S for starters

Paroxysm: Haha definitely what we are all looking out for I think! Thankyou for the interview!

Benji: No problem! thanks.

+ Show Spoiler [nGenXeen Interview] +
Xeen

Paroxysm: How did you feel about having the opportunity to cast the SEASL?

Xeen: Excited. I haven't done a lot of casting but enjoy doing it, and since I haven't been that competitive for awhile it's a chance to pretty much have front-row seats to the SEA scene.

Paroxysm: Did you have a favourite game that you casted during this season's SEASL?
Xeen: That's difficult to say, there haven't been any that really stuck in my mind. I'm more of a player than a commentator though, so Aaron vs Filthy's series is most interesting to me because I like seeing that sort of playstyle.

Paroxysm: How have you found this seasons SEASL and do you have any suggestions to help us run it better next season?

Xeen: So far it's been pretty good. I'm not a tournament organizer so I don't have a ton of views on running it - so far the major issues we've had are scheduling problems, but that'll always be an issue with live events on preplanned schedules. Anything to fix that is better for the viewers, though.

Paroxysm: Of course, do you have anything further you would like to say to your viewers, friends or fans?

Xeen: Thanks to Benji for letting me try co-casting with him in the first place, those friends that have offered advice and criticism, and to everyone who's tuned in for the SEA SL!

Paroxysm: Awesome, thanks for the interview! Keep up the good work!

Xeen: tyty

We are proud to announce the first ever SEA Star League here on sc2sea.com! This will be SEA's unofficial version of the the GSL. The prize pool features $750 dollars which we already have received from an anonymous donor (Mr. Ray!) which will be used in both Code S and Code A leagues. The SEASL will run next month when the current season of GSL is under hiatus, on SEA peak times of (19:00 SGT and 22:00 AEST) so it does not conflict with TSL.

Lastly, if this is a success, our benefactor plans to run more seasons monthly!

Code A Tournament
For this season, qualifications are open to everyone residing in SEA/ANZ apart from the announced CODE S players. Code A winners will receive the 4th seed in the Code S group stage with a total prize pool of $150.

+ Show Spoiler [How to Qualify] +

Everyone will have two chances to qualify, but you are allowed to join only one tournament on the same day.

e.g You can join bracket A and C but not A and B.
Any form of cheating or tournament abuse will result in disqualifications / site ban.
Brackets will be posted on challonge with proper seeding.

FAQ
+ Show Spoiler [FAQ and Other Info] +
Q: I want to qualify for CODE S, is there anyway i can sign up?
A: Yes, this opportunity is open to everyone who is currently residing in the SEA/ANZ region.
Place in the top 4 in our Code A tournament and you will earn a spot.

Q: Where on earth is mOOnGLaDe?
A: He is obviously on another level from anyone in SEA and is currently not residing in SEA/ANZ.
To make the competition open and more exciting, it was decided that he should not be allowed to play. Sorry Andy!

Q: How were the CODE S invites selected?
A: There was a very detailed selection process, based on the votes of the absolute top players in SEA. Some important rules were implemented, namely no voting for yourself or clan mates, with an equal representation taken from across the clans.

You can view the vote results here.

Can I use my friend's ID to sign up? I live in AU but I bought a US account, so I don't have SEA access.

If yes, Skoshia.599 Bracket B/D

My real name does not match my account name lol... I didnt want to put my real last name on my account. I hope this wont be a problem if I win (however unlikely). I have played in a few SEA tourns before, I think some people know me.

There is currently 82 players registered for Bracket B. NirvAnA and I decided to open up Bracket B for 128 players. So there is still slot for 46 players. Register quickly before any open slots are gone.

thanks for letting us know rhodan.

because of the unexpected turnout, the brackets have been increased from 64 players to 128.

We already have about 90 players in bracket B but slightly less for A

About 3 hours to go

Slight change to the format after lots of feedback because of the unexpected 128 size and stacked tournament.

Bo3 starts in ro16 now instead of ro8

the seedings were poor cos a lot of people have accounts on NA that they are active on, while SEA accounts (which i assume rankings where done off) are inactive and low.

Also yeah bo3 would have been nice, and a different starting map =/

Starting map should be, each player vetos a map until theres 1 left, thats the starting map.

Disallowing MmOOnGLaDe because he is "too good" is a horrible move, I refuse to watch or support your league until you remove such absurd restrictions.

Might as well just paypal him 500 bucks and call it a night if we just throw in Glade.

It's the SEA starleague, not "glade beats the shit out of a bunch of scrubs" league.

Oh so just because he has devoted more time into practicing and improving he should be disallowed?
I thought the whole point of training was to win tournaments, I must be incorrect.

Are you also going to disallow this tournaments champ into the next one? By you definition anyone who could beat the rest of these guys is "too good" for you, so you would have to.

This sounds more like a "I want my friends to win my cash, not the guy who has been training and rightfully deserves it." move.

Best of 1 and forcing Xel'Naga Caverns as the first map is so painful, argh. Kinda silly to exclude GLaDe, definitely a weird way of showing support for our best player. If people don't want to be stomped by him, they should put in the effort and learn how to beat him.

signups for this wednesday's bracket C and D are still open

be sure to follow our news page at sc2sea.com for the check-in link.

since there were quite alot of no shows(15%) in the last bracket, this time we will implement a simple check-in system so there wont be any walkovers.

this check in system will open 12 hours before the tourney starts and players who do not check in will not appear in the bracket

edit: My bad. Font makes Bakainu (with a capital I) identical to Bakalnu (with a lower case L)

Nobody can beat the Prince of Blades.

Many people on SEA have done it many times... Not giving us a chance to do it really cheapens the tournament, yeah, there's a 90% chance glade will win it if he plays it, but to downright exclude him is ridiculous. If you win the SEA starleague as it is right now, you won't feel like you've won the tournament with the best players SEA has to offer... Which IMO it 100% should be.

I mean i can understand excluding glade from the community open or w/e, but to exclude him from the tournament you're trying to make it out to be THE tournament, is pretty mindblowing, the question on litterally every non-SEA player, and half the SEA players who watch the stream of the final will be "How didn't glade make the final???" and when the answer is "He wasn't allowed to play" instead of "Yeah man [x] knocked him out in semi's!", it makes the final 1,000,000 times less interesting than if he was just playing and 3-0'd the person.

edit: that being said, there was a lot of negativity in this post i just realized, but i wanna say this is actually shaping up to be really cool, looking forward more so to season 2 personally when im sure a few things will change, but for now it's a nicely run tournament .

if theres a problem checking in, message me on bnet in the channel seaslD at the tournament start time and i will fix it manually for you.

you cant take part in two brackets on the same day as its unfair to the others, and yes its in the rules in the OP. we had it at 2 different times so everyone in different regions would have a chance to play at a convenient time. namely the ANZ region + SEA region.

Azz not in a SEA Star League invitational? Yeah.... um last time I checked he was the top Protoss on the server and tried to get into this league? Doesn't seem like this is well run or organized, or the organizers are picking favorites.

No Moonglade either. Not sure whether they werent invited or its possible they declined. Especially Glade who's in Korea atm so might not have time.

Still, pretty disappointing in that regard but all the games I've watched have been good and theres still plenty of good players to watch

No Moonglade either. Not sure whether they werent invited or its possible they declined. Especially Glade who's in Korea atm so might not have time.

Still, pretty disappointing in that regard but all the games I've watched have been good and theres still plenty of good players to watch

Hey Rhodan!

Nirvana posted this in the FAQ section, well hidden in his first post of this thread.

Q: Where on earth is mOOnGLaDe?
A: He is obviously on another level from anyone in SEA and is currently not residing in SEA/ANZ.
To make the competition open and more exciting, it was decided that he should not be allowed to play. Sorry Andy!

Azz lost first round in Code A due to "SEA lag", which is one of the reasons he chooses not to play in SEA events.

12 Code S players were selected by votes from the top 20 active/skilled players on the server (each player voted their top 12 and were not allowed to vote for clan mates etc. the final top 12 was then chosen based on the highest votes from the 200+ votes we had from the best players on the server). 4 slots were given to Code A tournament winners and Code A registration was open to all.

for the people who keep mentioning the glade issue - do know this, im good mates with andy and we've talked about it and hes totally cool with not being included. he is also really busy with his training schedule in korea. of course this might change next season depending on the feedback etc and glade's commitments then.

Bracket C Winner: TargA

+ Show Spoiler [About TargA] +
Targa was a semi pro war3 player who is originally from Norway. He moved to Melbourne for his studies and will be here doing his university for the next 3 years. Googled him abit and everything appears legit so yeap he is more than welcome to play in the league, the same way YoonYJ is Korean but plays on SEA because he is living in Australia.

On what tournament result(s) do you base this ridiculous claim on good sir?

(not that i don't agree with you that he should've have been part of it and there was some dodgeyness going on in the voting for players, but you cant just throw out titles willy nilly when you've probably never played another top protoss on the server in your life AND he has literally 0 tournament results since like beta to back up his credibility, lol)

Azz might have been high up on the ranks earlier but he is nowhere near the best on SEA. What a ridiculous claim. :/ He pulled one of those "gl hf, from?" "hows it going" things and proxied me on ladder. Lost and ragequitted. Not the best on SEA from what I've seen.

The best SEA protoss I've seen might be Kowi (not sure if hes SEA, i just googled him and the AUS forums came up). IS he in S-class, anyone know?

Xeen: tyty

I only watched the finals (and got owned in group stages, haha) and it did seem apparent that filthy was the better player. I'm actually hugely intrigued at his TvZ opening and style, it does remind me very much of his TvT opening which is reapers into incredibly light defence into heavy mech oriented style and it seems incredibly smart the whole way through. I may have to steal it.
