I agree with you of course, just think it's kind of funny. I can't help that Sjow gets so much shit despite winning this many tournaments. I think it's more of a situation where Sjow has a lot of haters no reason at all that are all bringing up the most ridiculous stuff. You don't see people posting like this about White-Ra, Kas or Morrow and if they did you'd see me responding the same way. People can't just go around and make shit up in order to discredit a player you dislike. People need a little less hate and a little more love. I've never talked to the guy fwiw nor does he particularly impress me more than other top players. Well, I wouldn't say for no reason. First thing that I recall which put him off for me was that stupid bit of collusion that he was planning with Morrow for that tournament series, and his arrogant rationalization of it. Then recently there was that whole business with the pokeridol finals, which I didn't personally care that much about, but apparently pissed off a lot of other spectators. He may have a very solid playstyle, but there's just something about him that I can't find myself wanting to cheer for him at all. The reason you call his explanation 'rationalization' is because you don't know what happened. It was absolutely nothing, and completely blown out of proportion. I think you should find a better reason for disliking him, then refrain from posting that reason because nobody gives a shit.

RuNa and Seinis had a harder group, they had to prepare two matcup(instead of Sjow) however they played better than him, they are just good players. It's great to see that less know player make it to the playoff, I cheer for them.

Shame to see sjow out, such a great player. And if you watch an interview, obviously a great guy as well. Keep your head up and fight on!

Certainly most people around here aren't justifying their dislike of Sjow very well, but there is a valid reason for disliking him as a player. That is to say, his play style, which shouldn't be as successful as it is given the mechanics he has to back it up. It speaks poorly of the game, in my opinion and the sooner he is forced to adapt and work on his mechanics, the better. Goody's success if even more disappointing. The players you named have better mechanics or are more creative and interesting. This is a strange way to think imo. "He is not standard, so he deserves the hate" Really ? Because it's what you just said. He manages to do well using unconventionnal tactics, so it is a reason to dislike him. I don't understand this "logic". I don't even like or dislike him, I just think that most sjow haters (or dislikers) use a very strange and irrationnal reasonning to jusify it.

No, your opinion is actually the big problem here. If you played BW at at least a semi-competetive level I'm sure you know how tiresome and tedious things got. And how frustrating it was to lose so much "skills" just because you didn't play for a week and your mechanics fell a little. Further, that kept people from becoming good even if they were really, really talented and smart. It took literally 2+ years to get good, actual mechanics that didn't involve spamming when you started from the ground up, no previous RTS-related experience.
That said, mechanics have always been overrated. Gurram was a Swedish Protoss/Zerg players that was dominant in the Swedish scene and played on-par with most other good foreign players, yet his APM never exceeded 120. And he was an insane macro-based player.
SjoW similarly doesn't make a lot of stupid clicks. Sure, everybody will benefit from better mechanics but judging by his multi-tasking and his unit control he already has good mechanics. In the end, what wins him games is just that alongside his decision making, knowledge of the game and intelligence. If that "speaks poorly" of a real time strategy game then you and I have a very different opinion on game design.

I am really impressed with Nazgul and Jinro standing up for a player who isn't even part of Liquid. A class act through and through.

Mind you, guys, but it smells rather disgustingly to see page after page people going on their personal crusade against other individuals in this livereport thread. Is this really necessary?

Haha, its perfectly rationnal to cheer sometimes for less know player winning, we see this in every sports, and we see it in GSTL with Squirtle, Seed, ACE, Yonghwa

Goody was A- on ICCUP in Broodwar... hitting something like 10300 points during TSL2 Qualifier (then he had a slump). Saying he has bad mechanics is just silly... He might not have a super high apm but its very efficient.

The players you named have better mechanics or are more creative and interesting. You don't have to like the guy. But saying he shouldn't be successful, like you determine the formula to success? RTS is a mix of strategy micro and macro. If you feel his macro is bad then that means he is doing better than others at strategy and micro. Saying he shouldn't be successful is exactly what is wrong with all the hate. Some players will be better at micro/macro (Huk), others at strategy (TLO). Sjow being good at micro/strategy and less at macro doesn't mean he shouldn't be successful. It doesn't speak poorly of the game either. BW has always been like this in the past 10 years. It means player styles will have more personality. To rephrase that, I'm saying it's a formula that ought not be successful in the long run and the sooner we get there, the better. Neither his micro or macro is comparatively good, which is especially obvious when watching his stream. It's a play style that is hard to appreciate a spectator, so in other words I dislike the style. Thus I obviously also do not wish the style to be successful. Despite my regdate I got SC at the release date and followed it for years and even disregarding that it's obvious there'll be different viable styles, but that does not mean I can't say or hope a certain style should not be viable.

He is a 60apm player who consistently floats thousands of minerals in his games despite not being maxed out.
