Hi there Atlare.
ICQ is the IM messenger used mainly in Europe, and would require an account for it. You can leave it empty if you do not have a ICQ account. As there will be a IRC chat integrated into the webpage already, you are not required to fill in any information in regards to the IRC field.

Use the chat channels instead of IRC

Why is the page all in Chinese? I can't really read it well :/
|
It's weird. When i sign up it says that the e-mail has been used. But when i use the forget password feature, it says the e-mail is not in the database.

Hi Drake. Is there any inquiries you would like answered?
As the portal is integrated together with ESL Asia, part of the ESL Asia portal is written in Chinese for the Taiwanese and Chinese players who are using it at the same time.

Hi dtz.
Might I know whether you have an account with any of the previous ESL websites before? If you have registered an account before, then you will not be required to register another ESL account again.
Thanks.

Hi nGenWild, I will need to check if there will be a separate prize allocated for the Asia champion. However, the SEA champion will have to fight against the China regional champion for the qualifying slot at the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship. I will keep you guys updated.
|
yuck that's a questionable map pool. No Shakuras Plateau?
|
Delta quadrant and Steppes of war in a Bo1 Map pool.
There goes any hope of qualifying against semi-competent competition.
|
gogo moonglade Would be nice to see him represent SEA as he is definitely the best player to come out of there, and would give IEM the best chance for a high showing out of SEA server
|
GOGO ! Sign up for a chance to go to Germany!!!

I wouldn't bet on it, I'd be assuming he'd have to off-race in order to qualify on a map pool like that, no Terrans or Protoss out there are still incompetent enough to lose a P/TvZ on Steppes or Delta.
|
Map Pool is pretty terrible, theres a reason no tournaments use steppes or DQ anymore;
Steppes is an autowin for T in TvP and TvZ and P in PvZ
DQ is almost as bad for ZvP and ZvT and so-so PvT
Especially in Bo1... either way, worth a shot I guess so I signed up could get lucky with my opponents on certain maps =/

Hey guys! Map pool has been updated! You can check it out in the link below!

This is based on a setting of max signups.

I was sad that I was going to miss this...
Till I saw everything about the comp other than "IEM".
But seriously the format is pretty atrocious :/. Bo1s with broken as hell maps?
|
The format is BO1 until the quarter finals.
Those "hell maps" as you call them are included into the ESL Intel Extreme Masters European and American Championship. When our Asia Winner will reach the World Finals in Germany with each single match valued at least a couple hundreds/thousands dollars, it will be better for him to have already played the maps during his own qualifier/championship.
|
Just because they are used in the other ESL IEM tournaments does not make them better maps. They are still horrible and still should not be used. I like how ESL tries to do so well, and they have a strong community, but in my opinion ESL always fails with what they try to do. Money is the only real reason I think ESL is seems so successful.
|
It has never been said they are better map. ESL is listening to the community, however in this case it is a regional qualifier to a big tournament. Why would we use other maps than those of this tournament, this would not benefit at all to our champion.
|
oh dear the format/maps T_T.
im not playing in this but i pity players with a geniune shot at winning IEM SEA aka glade having to go against say a decent toss on jungle basin or terran on steeps in a BO1 which will really screw him over.
|
Format and maps aside, hoping to see some competition and some solid games. Good luck to everyone entering I'll be tuning in for surreeee.
Bo1 really sucks but lol :<
|
All maps should be based on a veto system, so that noone has to play on the most garbage maps for their race/matchup.
|
Unless we use two time the same maps during the Bo1 Phase, we do not have any other choice than using those conflicts maps.
|
On January 19 2011 18:23 Xp wrote: Unless we use two time the same maps during the Bo1 Phase, we do not have any other choice than using those conflicts maps.
There is no problem using the same maps twice. From a competitive standpoint, in bo1's you absolutely will need to use the same maps twice or more simply because there are 3-4 balanced maps per matchup at most.

If the maps disadvantage a better player/potential chamion such that he will lose to the lesser player in a bo1 series, it wouldn't be fair to his chances.
IMO the bo1 map should just be XNC as it's probably the most balanced map out there, maybe Shakuras.

The logic used to come to this argument is so unbelievably broken. Have you played on these maps? If not, let me tell you something; There is no way in the world you're going to find a Zerg qualifying from SEA or any other region if you continue to use those maps. They are horrendous for Zerg in all but a mirror matchup, literally unplayable against competent competition.
Why do you believe that the IEM qualifiers in Europe produced 10 terrans and 2 protoss? This isn't an oddity; it's a direct result of the Maps. Players like dimaga just don't qualify because 'Europe terrans are better', they don't qualify because your map pool essentially inhibits them from competing.
You Justify your completely broken maps in the qualifing stage by explaining that they are the maps picked in the finals of the tournament but this doesn't address the issue at hand. Map imbalance is not a new thing, it is a well understood issue among the community and all signs point to maps like Steppes, Delta and to a lesser extent Jungle Basin and Lost Temple being almost unplayable/heavily imbalanced in ZvX Matchups. These maps are beyond unfair, they'll bring the finals of your tournament down to two races, and give one an inherent advantage at that.
If changing the maps at the finals is what is required to change the maps in the qualifiers then start there. But if you want the IEM to have any sort of balance integrity, these maps is what you should be addressing.

i prefer hdpheonix imo, her pronunciation is terrible :/
|
the constant imba talk from kelly about protoss and terran is very annoying but otherwise the stream is fine, good quality games so far
|
lol wtf his dad is chilling on the stream.
|
First time I hear these two commentators. Not bad, but both wants to talk a lot, and the guy just overrides her. About the only thing I like about the female, is that she sounds super foreign, from Thailand or something?
She should turn her microphone volume down, cause her voice hurts my ears when she talks, its not her voice, I just think she is a bit louder then the guy. Damn I should learn the names of them
|
Kelly's speedling art FTW! hehehe!
seriously I've been loving these SEA games and the casters are great. I hope you two keep covering SEA games in the future! (And please ignore chat more. They say such silly things, it's embarrassing -facepalm-.)
EDIT: Oh and good luck with the Code A casting app!!
|
I dont know but I just think their understanding of the game is quite shallow. They talk about unrelated stuff rather than cast about the game.
But they are novices compared to the other casters so I guess they will improve overtime.
GoodLuck

|
And thanks for the constructive criticism. Kelly and I are quite new to this but we are working on improvements so future shows could and should be better. =)

Nice work, looking forward to more VODs and casts of the IEM once they're all uploaded tidily.
