Yeah, I'm not too good at it right now so I won't sign up but I'm planning on going to watch and cheer on some friends. If I get good enough by then the waiting list will be what I'm going after

Haha, that was a great time. We will be announcing a series of SC2 events once we wrap up this tournament.

I don't want to put a damper on the thread and I don't mean to be rude but in both Edmonton and Calgary we have managed to have 500-650$ first place cash prizes (with a similar payout system) but for half the buy-in (in Edmonton). The point of me saying this is that if we are to draw people from out of province the cash prize needs to be in the 1k area for people to consider flying/coming from afar. (I am assuming that your goal is to draw some people in since your sponsorship with blackfoot inn implies it)

However, great job on getting the sponsors it might not draw in people from Ontario or NE USA but it is going to be big for the local scene in Alberta. I hope more of these come. (and in Edmonton too, although it wont stop me from driving)

Edit. I found out how to answer my own questions,

I signed up, but I will pay next week when I can verify I have that saturday off. Hopefully that many people wont have paid already eliminating my spot. But as far as I can tell only about 4 of the 30ish people registered have paid.

Thanks, we have a great relationship with our local sponsors including The Blackfoot INN as we host our major BYOC LAN Parties at their venue+ Show Spoiler +
.
**Our next major BYOC LAN party is: Project X: Redemption! May 13 - 15, 2011 in Calgary**
We arranged this special room rate with them to encourage people from out of town to stay for the weekend.

We are a local event group and this is our way of giving back to the LAN gaming scene in Alberta. Project X strives to promote a strong respectful e-sports community in Calgary first and foremost. It is great that we can push the envelope on cash / prize giveaways and really set the bar.

Yep! The Peregrine has been very supportive and the gloves are incredibly cool!

You can learn more about the glove here: http://www.theperegrine.com/product/

They have videos on their site which I would recommend checking out as well.

The glove is perfectly suited to playing a game like SC2 because you have all the control and features of a keyboard in the palm of your hand - it makes hot keys and shortcut keys so much simpler to use. It just takes a while to master

A representative from The Peregrine may be coming down to the tournament to highlight it's features and have demos. One of our regulars was a referee @ WCG in LA and he said it was insane watching pro players use the glove. Here is a youtube video of it in action
... from talking to them people have used the glove in photoshop, remote cars, sc2, HoN and a wide variety of other devices. It is pretty sick :D

$40 is pretty extreme for a one day tournament, and you are taking an exorbitant entry fee and only paying half of it out when you also have sponsored prizes?? major cash grab going on here

Renting something that can not only hold 64 players, but also at least that again in fans and staff for the whole day on a weekend is pretty expensive. I think you should check your facts before spouting this nonsense.

Cost of renting SB (on a Saturday) + Cash prizes given out > $2560

If anything SB is losing money compared to any normal Saturday. Like Darpa said, have your facts straight before you accuse.

I'm pretty sure if you don't use a computer there, it's free. But if you wanna play on a computer, you have to pay the venue price.
