Jinro looked kind of shaky during his series against choya, but fortunately he managed to qualify, though MC is the clear favorite in the semis from the matches today. It's really weird that Jinro's style is actually a burden against protosses - 200/200 supply and protoss has a better chance of winning against terran. Best of luck though, I hope Jinro will qualify to the finals.

Also, a great performance by him, first foreigner in the semis, but under no circumstances should he be content with this, he should try to win it all.

So, how much is Jinro to get MINIMUM for getting to RO4?

He got himself $8,600 USD in the bag already.

He wins again to Semifinal, it's a whopping $20K.

He wins first place, it's $85K.

$8,600 is not bad at all. Domestic prize for foreigners is probably not taxable to neither Korea or their home country.

So it's like winning a lottery for $13,000 in United States. This should help in stay in Korea and enjoy endless bottles of soju and Korean BBQ!

Prize money is taxed in Korea, though tax rate is only 4.4% in Korea. (If I googled correctly..)

I'm not sure if it aplies to foreigners.

Usually tax by foreigners is equal or more. Not less.

Pretty sure Jinro pays his taxes to Sweden, not Korea. Or does he actually live in Korea?

It depends on country to country for instance when i was working in Germany i had to pay tax in Germany after the 1st January if i remember correctly and then i had to claim it back when I returned to the UK. It gets even more complicated if you stay for longer periods of time. I have no idea what Korean tax law is let alone Sweden's.

yep, different countries have different tax treaties. a US citizen always has to file a US income tax return, even if 100% of the income was earned in a foreign country. the tax treaties allow the US IRS to get your income tax information from the foreign country, and usually you get enough credits from the income tax you paid to the foreign country to completely offset US tax owed. but you have to file a tax return in both countries.
and i only have experience with US taxes, and know the US has such a tax treaty with Sweden, as well as with S Korea. i don't know what happens between Sweden and S Korea though.

In Sweden it depends on how long you will be abroad :
less than 6 months : pay swedish tax (probably 30% for jinro based on his and his family's residence and a guess that he doesn't have salary above ~30k sek (3k€) a month) but the amount you pay in that foreign country is deducted (so if korea takes 10%, he will pay 20% in sweden).
6monts-1year: if you are hired abroad you pay tax to the foreign country, and may not have to pay swedish tax.
+1year: considered to have moved abroad more or less permanatly - you only pay tax to the foreign country.

edit: and he may get tax adjustment if he asks for it, he is very likely to get one if he only has his pricemoney as an income for example.

Fuck I actually went to stand in the freezing cold for over 3 hours helping my brother load all his stuff into the moving truck, to miss JINRO winning 3-2 in a total epic nailbiter? Aaargh. Only the thought of watching the VODs tonight soothes me.

Screw being spoiled, I'm reading through the thread getting all the live reports now :D

Congratulations Jinro! Missed all the games (not waking up at 5am) but I definitely need to watch them all now.

Well you are correct but it's not about for how long he's been abroad but for how long he is/will stay and probably more than 6 months thus he doesn't have to pay tax to Sweden, though how much would it be in Korea is there any tax on this? =)

Oh god I'm SO HAPPY! Its looking more and more like I'm going to be pulling an allnighter before my last final just to watch Jinro in the finals. I know hes not favored against MC but I'm still rooting for him!
Greatness, at any cost.
