when they're streaming off of studio2 its quite good actually (16 : 9 & HD) but i am pretty sure the finals will be streamed on their 'normal stream' which is still 4:3 with worse quality than the average user streams here on TL.
Would be great if you could add in the OP that I'll be providing an English stream from the ESL studio's, I won't be live at the event but I'll still be broadcasing the games live, so there is a way for all our lovely English viewers to follow ze German EPS finals as well, which should be damn good

Will you restream the official stream or be ingame as well? The latter would rock, better casting (imho) and higher video quality/have your own mouse control.
Hello there, I'll be doing some interviews with all the players over the next ~24hrs so if you have any questions just post them right here. Videos of the interviews will go up on esl-radio.de and Youtube (will do english subtitles for those with Goody and Socke).

Yeah, Goody's macro is completely terrible, there is hardly any game where I don't see him have endless queues in his production-buildings. He is still a very good player, but if he could improve that aspect of his game, it would be pretty scary.

So it took 4 months until i finally saw someone use viking micro in a streamed match. Basic micro, as in 'pull your low hp one back' and as in 'use 1 of your vikings to focus on the enemies one with low hp'. Thank you, Demu!

btw i think demuslims performance is really suffering with those circumstances. he seems to be very emotional about any distractions. hope we wont see a quick 2:0
This reminds me of Blizzcon, when the players complained about severe 2-3second lags in the first rounds. Only no one dropped out and Blizzard was able to hide these circumstances because they only casted 6 games And the i41 LAN in London had to delay the tournament, too, because of Bnet problems. Please, Blizzard, give us LAN, please.
Its so sad, this event seems to be really awesome. Cool location, good commentators, big crowd cheering and Bnet is ruining everything. Please Blizzard watch this and give lan-support for events.
Well when would you expect BNet to lag... probably on weekends, when most people have time to play. When would you expect big tournaments to be hosted.. yeah, noone could see that one coming. And of course, just host tournaments when we are not patching stuff.
It's really a total travesty, they just have to realize how much these occurences (like MLG Dallas or this one) will hurt SC2 in the long run. I am not gonna take a couple hours out of my weekend to watch and pay for streams if I have to watch nothing half the time because BNet does not work. How do you explain sth. like this to your friends if you are trying to get them into SC2?
I really hope that they are working on some tournament-lan version, if they are not, I have to doubt their sanity in this regard. It's just unworthy.
Its just so sad to see a final like this, with a pricepool in the thousands, is kind of damned to fail to entertain just because battle.net is failing again
its really destructive for the future of this sport, and on the other hand, its quite surprising that in hundreds of gsl-games there hasn't been a single lag-issue...
quite fucked up to be sure, mr. blizztivision...>:/

Socke vs. Goody already lagged like hell. Demu vs. Cloud game 1 lagged like hell, and game 2 Demu dropped twice quite early in the game. They are now exchanging Demus PC, tho I doubt it will help.

Seems like the problem might be at the ESL's end. They are exchanging Demuslims rig right now. Moreover, Demuslim can hear the cast through his headphones.
Go Socke/DeMuslim! It's silly that Rotterdam is not at the Event. His stream is so dead compared to the german stream, solely because there is no live crowd, or shots of the players and commentators, or interviews. :/
Blabla ... boring even if you're an esports-fan. Glad that I didn't walk the 200 meter over there to see it live. Different streams for the different games would be really nice.

Hm, in state of the game podcast they said that it is actually impossible to listen to anything if you are playing and very focused. So I dont think it has any impact.
Well Demuslim said he knew what units Cloud had and at what time he was going to push because he could hear the cast. ESL should really either use a seperate gaming area or get some booths next time...
Games were great tho. Don't want to take anything away from that.

Demuslim said that he could hear the caster in the first game, but maybe they fixed it (increase volume).
Normally at ESL events they wear these special headsets so they can't hear anything... they probably fixed the problem, cause at Dreamhack whenever a player could hear the commentators he told the admins and they fixed it, don't see why the players wouldn't do it this time.
Cloud has immensely improved lately. His style was noticeable similar to Jinro`s. Will be tough to predict which Terran makes it to the finals though. Demu is pretty strong and Goody unpredictable.
I know. Demuslim also paused a game on dreamhack to say he could hear Day9 and Apollo. But what I meant is that it was the first time that someone complained on a ESL Tournament as far as I know

It's easy to blame BNet for this, but let's not forget that ESL has quite the track record of royally screwing up live events. Basically every ESL event I can recall had one major technical issue at least.

GoOdy was in a commanding lead, it was actually not possible to give it away! DemusliM turned it around so he was insanely far ahead! He's not a player that would give such an advantage away and a rematch would be unfair, but you could argue that Goody was in the same position and when it would Crash then a regame would also be unfair, though call but it was won by DemusliM in the end, thats for certain!

The ESL fails to provide smoothly running PCs to the competitors, so Goody's chance to win the game has been taken away by the ESL. Was Demu ahead at this point? Hell, yes. Would he have won the game? Most likely. Definifively? No. Would they have also given Goody the default win if the game would have crashed 10 minutes earlier? Because, at that point, it was the other way around: Goody was way ahead. Remember Dreamhack's Morrow vs. Mana, when Day9 kicked his PC? People were screaming "zomfg Morrow way ahead, need defwin", and in the end Mana won the game. The screaming for defaultwins is pathetic and pitiful, even in online tournaments. And when it comes to professional gaming, with thousands of Euros or Dollars on the line, there is no way eSports can be taken seriously when a game is being decided because the frikking event host, a multimillion Euro company, fails to provide a stable running PC for a player. This is ridiculous, this is unspeakably outraging.

Yes but the point is in contrast to you, the admins have to come up with a decission whereas you can fall back on complaining and not offering a solution.

There is no solution to be offered. Unless a player gives up the game, a disconnect has to lead to a regame. Otherwise, whenever a player feels ahead, he will simply hit the Windows-button on his keyboard and cancel the LAN connection in the task bar.
The problem with these things are, that in such situations there is no good decision. The only thing what can be done is to make the least horrible decision. Def win demu? that would sux foor goody cause he thought he still had a chance. Rematch? that would sux for demu because he had a clear lead (eg massive advantage) but bigger comebacks have been done in the history so its kinda fishy.
The combination of a kinda buggy game and battlenet 0.2 makes that SC2 isnt the proper platform yet for a good esport game. There are just way to many disc's, crashes in all sort of tournaments with alot of money on the line. ESL cant do alot in this situation tbh, its just blizzard who made a unstable game with a shity online service, and are unwilling to change anything.
LAN support and a big big big big crash hunting action by blizzard would be the the best solution to all this bullshit because then when something goes wrong it will be most likely the fault of the organiser if the game itself is rocksolid (Brood war).

Okay, then bring back 1995 online rules: Player who disconnects loses. And add some 2010 spice to it: If the admin decides that the disconnected player was in a lead, admin can walk over the remaining player by ordering a regame. Now that I think of it, that's actually not a bad idea.

its not Demuslim`s fault that he disconnected, since he is not even playing on his own computer. That would be like giving a random win to one player.

I played Age of Empires:TC for quite a long time, the game came out in 1999 and the game engine was written in 1995, that had restore from saved game in the event of a drop, why is it so hard for for a game that 10 years younger to have such a feature? That's a quite ridiculous comparison. Here at the event we have two admins, one behind each player, to make sure that everything is running correctly. The scenario you described would never happen.
I stand by my decision to rule the game a win for DeMusliM. I watched the replay together with GoOdy and I can understand his point of view. There was still a very, very minor chance for him to win, as in:
- IF his Banshees do a ton of damage (although DeMusliM had turrets and a lot of Orbital Commands to scan) - IF his (non-blue) Hellions kill a lot of SCVs - IF his desperate last push stands a chance against the way superior army of DeMusliM that is containing him
The chances of any of this to happen was extremely slim. But to get back into the game and to get a new base up and running he would have needed to have all these things to happen at the same time.
GoOdy was almost mined out on his two remaining bases (~1 minute mining time left) and had no more gas. He had half the worker count and a ton of less supply.
I believe a referee opinion should matter in cases like these, judgement calls have their place in eSports just like they do in 'real' sports.

I agree with you on this situation ingame, yet you still fail to see the point (I still have to remind you of the nature of SC2 games being highly volatile. You have seen Demu breaking Clouds contain and giving up the advantage again shortly afterwards. You have seen Demu breaking Goody's contain. You even admit Goody still had a chance). Demu went 1-0 not because he won the game, but because you say Goody might not have won. Demu went 1-0 not because his opponent lost the game, but because of ESL's technical issues which Goody could not have flanked, cliffdropped, EMPed, or nuked in any way. What is the point of having a match and/or a whole season of matches, when it's not up to the players to decide the outcome, to play out the winner?
A stream is only as good as its caster - good casters can make medium games great fun and long waits into enjoyable things, bad casters can spoil epic games and make people very bored.
haha aw thanks guys , appreciate it, hope ben/demuslim pulls trough and we got a superb final to look forward to tomorrow even though Cloud against Socke was freaking good today , so i hope in any case we are in for a treat :D
Final game should be up in 15-20 Min Maximum, hope we can get this baby going fast.
i must say having so many openings in tvt is not that good actually (at least it seems like that to me), because very often build order wins happens, kinda like this time (blueflame hellions vs marine banshee)
edit: obviously you can go "safe" builds, but every tvt build can be at least semi-hard countered
Wow I'm disappointed from Demuslims response, normally the defender has to throw down a bunker that covers both your mineral-line and your barracks....or not? Trying to get the bunker up near the ramp was a big mistake, Demuslim could've easily had enough time to construct the bunker back near his CC.

Yeah, I agree.
Its hard for anyone to be polite and straight-faced when you just progressed past a famous player into the finals, but to be THAT polite and THAT sincere is really really cool of him.
Wow this is surely a huge upset. Everybody expected Demu to take the finals with relative ease but his play looked pretty vulnerable in many situations (both against Cloud and Goody). I would like to know how his preperation was in advance of the tourney because Cloud stated that he played like 14 hours recently and was very active overall, whereas it was pretty quiet about Demu, apart from an unfortunate DH. In contrast to other progamers Demuslim seemed to have focussed mainly on the EPS so ending up as 3rd should leave him disappointed.

Speak for yourself there. Its not like Demu dominated the recent tourneys he played in.
On another note, they finally need to take on the problem with casters being heared by the players. That was an issue on every big lan tournament except GSL. Demu said he actually heared how the casters said "proxy rax". And it seems he was so fair to not instantly react to that by putting a bunker (he said that). But then he was so confused about how he should react that he messed up in the end.
Its totally unacceptable how this shit interferes with the games.
I think the commenators need to take an example of Hasu who avoided to spoil. Knowing about the problem it was not exactly smart to cry out loud MAKARAX!!!

He actually said in a DH interview (linked below) that he hasnt been playing much of late, not been practicing in the run up to DH more than a few hours a day (if that) and so on.
I didnt expect him to be on top form, and so I thought he wouldnt win but maybe would make top 3 of 4 - so in that respect I guess you get what you deserve. Obviously TvT is pretty random or luck based, but I guess if Cloud worked his ass of specifically preparing for this, and demuslim was somewhat on a low point of his training there is no big upset.
@ resilve: well then the timing for not playing a lot was pretty suboptimal, considering that DH and EPS were the biggest events for him and besides that he did hardly play weekly cups etc.

One thing I like about the eps though is that the two players that brought in the most effort in the last months were rewarded by making it into the grand final.
Demuslim is a great guy and a great player but actually i'm happy for Cloud that he is doing good. It was a huge step for Demuslim to come to Germany but compared to Cloud i feel like he had much more (or better) support from his team(mates). Cloud doesn't have a teammate at his place anymore, is in a foreign country and it seemed like he had a rough time at the start of the season and now he puts up such a good show at the finals ( games vs socke were sick), handeling all this on its own, much respect for that.

Man, I agree!
Im a massive fan of demuslim, but I was just explaining to the guy who claimed it was a big upset - that actually he is out of form a little bit atm (compared to his potential) and I guess even he would recognize that. If ClouD has been training really hardcore for this EPS final, then its no upset that he wins - well played to him.
I 100% believe that on his best form, ben is as good as anyone in the entire world and easily in the top 2 terrans in europe, but you wont win these mirror matches without having nailed the most up-to-date trends and being fully confident in your play (I guess).
If you are able to read German you should read the interview on fragster.de He is quite an arrogant one, but he played well in this series.
No he is not, you should reread the interview.
He is putting himself over all the korean terrans and doesn't even answer the question involving HuK, showing he isn't really accepting him as a good player. Overall in my opinion he seems to be quite arrogant when talking about other players. The previous part wasn't that way.
Cloud is actually a really nice and intelligent guy, it's just that his mindset lets him come off as an arrogant ass sometimes^^ He motivates himself by saying he's the best, 100% immersion into motivation, that's about it and honestly, the guy is sick good, his insight and mechanics make him rock solid. He's the guy to beat in TvT in EU imo. That's not to say, Socke will wipe the floor with him if he again doesn't veto DO.
Cloud is one of the most likeable progamers out there. Always friendly, always calm and professional. Also he seems to have found his groove in sc2 lately.
About the interview on Readmore I think it didnt come out exactly as I would have liked to express myself because we did it in english and they had to rewrite it in german. I didnt say I think I am better than korean pros, I just said that the very top european terrans are better than korean terrans against zerg and especially tvt. I dont think I am as good as Tarson or Naama or the very best terran players in Europe so that does not apply to me. But yes I definitely think koreans are overrated when compared to europeans.

then go and win the gsl i'll root for you (despite favoring socke today, sorry ;-))

Hm, I read the interview again and I still disagree. Your initial quote was formulated as a fact with no room for disagreement but you fixed that in your second post. In the end it boils down to different opinions and I can life with that.
Just wanted to announce I will provide a English stream for the grand final once more and im not alone, with me is the one and only Naruto, so a T and P player casting the grand finals of EPS, make sure to not miss it :D

you know i do think euro tvt is by far the most developed but i seriously doubt euro tvz is even close to korean tvz standards

Socke won 2 very short and onesided games on Meta and Xel Naga. Cloud was a little greedy on Meta and lost to a 5gate push after expand from Socke. On the second Map Socke played a Phoenix-opening into expand, Cloud played 1 Rax reactor FE into 3rax timing push, Socke saw it, addes more Gateways, defended with nice Forcefields, pushed afterwards and won
Dunno why they did Bo3 double-elim format with 4 players. Seems kinda silly. Might as well do Bo5 Semi finals on the first day and Bo7 finals on the second day, or even Bo7 the whole way through.

Their plan is to broadcast every single match. A double-elimination and BO5/7 could take a ridiculously long time if matches go all the way to the 5/7th game. They were already running behind schedule yesterday. This would have only made it worst.
Not double elim, just standard single-elim, Bo5 semis, Bo7 finals, would have been better. 3000 Euros shouldn't hang on a best-of-3, double-elim or not.
I'm not a huge fan of double elim anyways. Mainly because there is no real Grand Final. One player has an advantage going in to the finals? That's never gonna be really epic..

GG's Socke.
With Doulbe elimination you need 5 Bo3 matches to get to the finals. Otherwise its 2 Bo5 till finals + maybe a Bo5 for 2nd place. In any case its a maximum of 15 maps played. Timewise it doesnt really make a difference. They were running behind schedule because their schedule was bad and they wasted a lot of time for promotions and chatter in between the different games.
2 Bo5 and one Bo7 would've been better I guess. With 4 players in a finals tournament you really don't need double elimination in my opinion.
Games yesterday were great though, whether double elim or not.
50 or 80€ per game won during the season. Not quite sure about the amount. Prizemoney penalties from players are usually evenly distributed among all the other players, so I guess Naniwa's money is distributed as well.
