The no map veto thing is great. All of these maps have been in the pool for awhile now, and its not fun to watch the same 3 maps over and over again. It makes for good TV and is even for everybody, if you want to win the tournament you are going to have to win on every map.

The only thing I don't like about tasteless is his terrible observing (Though I have to admit he was a far more insightful commentator when he was covering GOM BW games). I watched the games tonight twice. The first time I watched the kroean stream and the second time I watched the english stream. It was amazing how much tasteless missed. Who does the obsing on the korean side? Why can't they just follow the korean obs? And lastly, why is he so much better than tasteless at observing?

Well I recall Tasteless mentioning lessons on obsing given for $300 an hour...
So if somebody is charging that for obsing lessons, then obsing is clearly something that the koreans take seriously. So it's understandable that they have a damn good observer..

"Why can't they just follow the korean obs?"
I think you'd regret that statement if it actually became reality...
It would probably be kind of like trying to steer a car from the passenger side, with somebody else controlling the pedals.
Granted it's possible to commentate when you're not observing.. but when the observer is not focusing on the same things you are, not thinking at all along the same lines often, not going at the same pace you are, etc etc, I can't see things going so smoothly..

If they had their own independent talented observer who understood english and was listening to them cast as he observed, then it might work..
But for there to be no relationship and no communication between commentators and observers? I don't think you understand how rough that could get at times..

I'm pretty sure he was joking.. I hope, lol.

Anyways, awesome games for a season opener. Hope Jys comes back next season.

Tasteless often seems clueless about things he should know. How can it be that they're paid commentators but often get details about their tournament wrong? Tasteless doesn't even seem to know how to use a lot of the observer functions or at least forgets to even after months on the job. There is no excuse for not always leaving on the production tab unless he wants to switch briefly to check something else like unit count, army value, or income.

It looks unprofessional when a players hidden proxy tech midgame catches the observer by surprise because he didn't have the production tab open. Just last season I recall a voidray coming from offscreen but due to no production tab and not looking around the bases we didn't even see a Stargate.

Tasteless is fun to listen to but I hope he and artosis actually practice some observing off the job so they can improve their live observing.

+ Show Spoiler +

I totally agree. Sometimes I just can't believe their lack of unprofessionalism, on live TV!! When they miss something once in a while, that's understandable, mistakes happen. But when it happens so often, it gives the impression that they (mainly Tasteless) don't understand the game at all. Up until now, I haven't heard Tasteless add insightful comments. Give your brother a call, he'll help you out.

Other comments or examples of unprofessionalism:
- Tasteless gargling powerade, like wtf?
- Nobody wants to hear the same thing over and over again about the supply depot placed next to the refinery or behind the mineral lines, we get it
- Stop calling viewers noobs
- Obvious biased commentary
- First season, Tasteless asked Artosis what the hotkey for the production tab was. As far as i know, it's not that hard to learn what the few hotkeys are, especially when you are paid to commentate!
- Artosis kept calling BoxeR "Fake Boxer" in his face, which i find pretty insulting. He's got skills, he can use the ID BoxeR if he wants. Seriously though, who wants to use an ID with Fake in it?
- Shameless EG or handsomenerds plugs. Can they do that? lol Either way i don't like it. Seems like tasteless cares about everything but to give great commentary for GSL. I know he's working hard to find a house in Korea for EG, but if I was in his shoes, i'd make GSL and learning the game my top priority. Not fired for lack of professionalism > finding a house, any day of the week for me. I just don't see how he benefits from staying on team EG, based on his understanding of the game, he's probably just an average player.
- and so on lol, can't remember everything.

anyways, just posting this and hoping that tastosis do see it, I like them but anymore of this bs and i'll be hoping that they get replaced.

I think Artosis and Tasteless are doing a fine job at commentating... yes they sometimes miss important stuff (e.g. canceling of Nexus in Sen's last game on Blistering Sands) but overall they are definitely knowledgeable about the game and are great at commentating the GSL.

I think you're so fixated on them being 'bad' that you just ignore everything they do right, which is almost everything IMO.

The commentating is great, observing not so much. Sure it has been awhile since GSL 1, but you gotta understand he NEVER observered at all before GSL, he needs to be constantly reminded somehow to get better, but give him some slack still, being a perfect observer takes tons of practice, there is so many useful things in observer mode

Good games Overall. Didn't care for that all in by that Terran in the 3rd game, but it equals out from the cool play in the first.

Don't like that no map veto. It makes it more random, and gimmicky. Expect to see lots of Zergs all inning on steps.

lol Vines vs Sen g3 should not be recommended. It was standard play for Sen and a 90-second late all-in from Vines. Sen had 2 bases completely saturated and he made enough roaches to hold. Outstanding. >_>

Hooking them up to the Korean observer is not perfect either, they did that during the short Jason Lee - era, and I remember some game where a Terran proxied a starport + techlab, and that Korean guy would just not show that on screen and they were like "oh yeah, we can see a starport coming down on the production tab, we'll probably see it soon.... Or not... Oh lol now there's banshees out, didn't see that coming"
(Game was on Xel'Naga, forgot the players)

Being able to show what you are talking about is more useful than you may think. And if you compare Tasteless' observing to Season 1 ro64, you'll actually see how much better it got.

And it's actually Artosis' job to provide tactical insights.

The best part about Day 1 were the interviews for me, the 3 way English-Korean-Chinese and Maka playing with the microphone, hilarious. Can't remember other interviews with him, has Maka always been this happy in them?

Damn, I thought I caught a break when they moved the (korean evening) start time to an hour later..
Now it's been negated

Arizona doesn't observe Daylight Savings time either so nothing changed for me (GSL Wise) everything else is screwed up, like TV programming!

I agree that Tasteless is a MUCH better commentator when he doesn't have to observe. Anyone would be. I really think he could reach his full potential if they just used the Korean observer and he could devote 100% of his time to saying funny stuff.

Do you not remember Jason Lee commentating when he was around they were using the Korean observer and it was virtually impossible for them to do a good job because they never knew where the screen was going to jump to.

To be fair they didn't use the proper Korean observer. They used some extra that was using an English client. He wasn't very good at all compared to the real Korean observer.

lol being maxed is not an excuse for having too many minerals... hitting 200 should coincide with an attack. but there are some situations where having thousands of minerals isn't a significant mistake. they are just kinda rare on shakuras
