go to the wednesday or friday service? lol sorry. in all seriousness, we could consider switching it to saturday. i definitely like the saturday idea a little better, so it would just be saturday the 27th, a few days after turkey day (i'm not sure if the rest of the guys organizing this would be down though, if we can get a vote early that'd be great). in fact, why not have an sc2 turkey? or roast a zergling or queen or something?

Issue with having it on Saturday is that the LAN center is pretty busy Friday and Saturday as you can imagine. The owner hooks us up with some deals, so that we can hold the tourney. If we did it on a Saturday the owner would actually be losing money, but Sunday he is not very busy, so the tournament actually brings him a crowd and extra business on his slow day.

I'll talk to him and see what we can work out, but I cant promise anything at this point other than Sunday.

So I'm signed up but was wondering, as a high gold player, do I stand any chance of winning a match here or is it going to be 0-2, 0-2, spectate? I'm not terribly disappointed if I do get massively outclassed I just like to know what I'm in for.

Supposedly a gold player got 3rd place at the last SCAR lan (organized by a different group in Tempe). so i guess you could win. we'll be doing random seeding, so there is a good chance you could even win your first match. there were a lot of gold players last time.

$20 to enter and the prize is only $100?
that is really expensive for a small cash prize. Please lower the price or raise the prize pool!

the cafe normally charges only $10 for 4 hours. Are you requiring all to buy day passes?

hmm, lets do some math here:

$20x10 = $200 possible prize pool + $10 to the pool for every person over 10 ppl.
so... $100 for first, $50 for second = $150. then, there are dog tags and trophies available, i dno, the owner sells them for $20 a piece just for the dog tags, but nevermind that. 10 people get to play all day at the cafe for $50? that's a steal. lets see...howie's charges $12/person for an all day pass.

anyways, if that still isn't fair, please propose something and we will try to make amends.

i'm still waiting on velocity micro's 'party pack', it could be swag, it could be some goodies, who knows. crucial has sent us some swag. should be a great hangout.

One more question, why the old map pool? Is that to match up with MLG or other pro events? Seems sort of strange to not mirror the ladder as Desert Oasis and Kulas have been out for a while now. I wouldn't imagine too many participants do an extensive amount of custom games to practice on those maps.

Well the owner of the place should cut you guys a good deal imo. You seem pretty involved. I was in a CS team and we got really cheap rates when we played at our local LAN center.
Plus the cheaper the buy-in the more people would enter, not just die-hard fans. Their friends and other people at the lan center would play, and more people traveling to get there. So if it were $10 to enter and you had 20 people that would be gravy. The last LAN had ~20 people, plus with MSI, I would imagine this LAN could be bigger.

Just wanted to let everyone know that tomorrow we will put in the order for the trophy. We will have it within 5 business days. I'll be sure to post pictures of it when we get it.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the event again!

we're paying about $2 per person for the venue (if its $10), that's next to nothing. after all, we will be using their internet.

Looks like the people have spoken and we will be going with the $10 entry fee, remember this will effect the prizes. I will talk with whiteshadow and make sure that the post reflects the proper prizes.

Getting closer to the date, Hope everyones has been keeping their fingers warm in the cooling weather

i'm willing to carpool a few people from ASU to the venue. i think I have space for like 1-2 more (depending on if you are BYOC or not).

LIES. i was platinum actually, i just had only played like 13 games (post-beta where i played a little too).

Would be interesting to give it a go, but man, I haven't practiced 1v1 in a long time. Been playing team matches quite a bit, I think upon the next large patch, I will start my 1v1's again and see how far I can go.

i've played like ~35 ladder matches, and i think i'm gonna have a go this time (instead of casting/streaming).

@ asianinvasian: I know from last time Whiteshadow said that he had a tournament program for brackets in the works, but idk if it completed yet.

Also, just wanted to make sure that the prizes were clear for this one since we did things a little different. Since we had the vote on what entry fee you guys wanted the prizes had to be adjusted as well. Majority wanted a $10 entry, so when looking at the prizes please look at the description right under the vote results in order to find out what the prizes are. Please ignore the prize details under the “Tournament Details” section.

Just to prevent any confusion the prizes are:
OPTION 1: $10 entry fee ($15 late), no tags, trophy for 1st, 50/20/10 split between 1st-3rd for prize

Plus you guys have some sponsor gear to look forward to. I don’t know what it is yet, so it will be a surprise for us all

Also I spoke with 2 of you in regards to the entry fee, sorry I forgot what your names where . One was by email the other was in SC chat. If you happen to catch this post send me a PM. I'll probably track down the email for the guy that I spoke to, but I don't think I can remember who I spoke with in SC chat, so hopefully you will catch this if not no big deal.

Anyway, back to my calc homework.... Look forward to seeing everyone Sunday!

option 1s prize pool means prize increases as attendance increases.

$10x~24 people= $240 pool, 50% goes to 1st, 20% to 2nd, 10% to 3rd. which is approx $120, $50, $25 or something, rough math.

Thank you very much, gonna have to practice quite a bit more - it was a lot of fun playing with you; and looks like 1 base BC isn't quite as strong as I'd hoped. I'm also debating dropping random for tournaments and focusing on one of the races. Anyone else is more than welcome to hit me up for pretty much anything - always looking for new folks to play with.
